Better than many things I’ve seen on TV or paid streaming services. I can’t think of anyone who has done this deep a dive on Gemini.
I met a gentleman a few years ago who worked at Johnson Space Center in the 60s. He described the engineers there as so brilliant that they didn't have common sense. Many would get lost in the building regularly and frequently forget where they parked. Complex equations and proving theoretical physics, no problem. Working a water fountain... complex issue. It is amazing to think of how many minds it took to make this happen.
My college roommate's dad was a mechanical engineering professor, specializing in fluid dynamics. He was brilliant. He was also the most socially awkward person I've ever met. Too smart for their own good is a real thing.
I've worked with actuaries and a lot of them were the same. They couldn't park their cars, working the Dell laptops was hazardous, but their mathematical abilities were phenomenal and complex equations that I'd never, ever be able to understand were the work of seconds. And that's what gets me about this - the level of understanding that the scientists had of subjects I know nothing of is amazing, and the pilots' ability to execute the fruits of that and to keep a clear head in hazardous situations merits nothing other than awe.
Tom Stafford, what a hell of an astronaut. Two Gemini missions, around the moon and commanding ASTP?! One of the best star pilots this galaxy's ever seen.
Agree, but also John Young. Flying two Gemini missions, Command Module Pilot on Apollo 10, commander and piloting the lunar lander on Apollo 16, first to fly the Space Shuttle in orbit and commanding STS-9 shuttle mission :)
Him and Alexei Leonov remained good friends up until the latter's death a few years ago, where Tom delivered a eulogy at Alexei's funeral. Alexei is also mine and many other people's favourite cosmonaut so that was a real power friendship right there
Oh my LORD, HE'S BACK! I have to thank you for your awesome work. I came across your channel randomly a couple of years ago while searching for some long documentaries about space exploration. I've watched all of your space documentaries at least once, and I've listened to them again countless more times. I have a condition that makes it difficult to fall asleep in complete silence and I usually put something on, playing quietly in the background when I go to bed. In the past two years it was mostly your videos or Drachinifel's channel about Naval history that soothed me to sleep every night. From the bottom of my heart - Thank You!
Drach is a lifesaver. No ads, soothing voice, 3 hour videos. Homemade Documentaries is just as good, unfortunately we don't get new content every week 😮💨
I've been waiting 2 years for this. I'll watch it fully once, then I will fall asleep to it many many more times. The quality of these documentaries is incredible.
Thank you for monetizing this without a bunch of commercials. I would really enjoy seeing a documentary on Skylab by the way. You do great work young man keep it up!!
Thank you SO much!!! Your space docs are the best. I even just listen to them once I'm familiar with the visuals. Great storytelling. You've made a bunch of people very happy. You keep making them, we'll keep watching them.
That’s actually surprising to hear since I mix with headphones and typically that’s frowned upon. I’ve gotten better at letting off the music during dialogue…lol
at 2:29:40 when Aldrin raised his sun visor to look at the camera and wave, it felt like I was right there with him. I decided to finally binge-watch the whole series from Mercury on up after I saw you’d uploaded Gemini Part II. The whole way through, I’ve been absolutely captivated. By god, what an incredible documentary series - as a fellow public historian and early NASA enthusiast, I salute you. Keep doing what you’re doing. Ad astra.
As a child, my favorite Documentary that i watched several times growing up as a teen was "Moon Machines". It gave me lumps in my throat through how emotional and awestruck it made me feel. Now, as a much older adult i feel the same way watching your documentaries, especially this one. This is hands down the best space documentary I have ever seen, as someone who has been watching space docs since I was a small child. This is a AAA+ quality doc. Thank you for the unimaginable time you must have pht into this. Thank you so much
Excellent work sir! Our family friend and flight director Glynn Lunney who you mentioned here in part 2, often remarked in later years that the Gemini Program was a vital intermediate step in the process during which so many problems and challenges were both discovered and overcome regarding the vital elements required to get to the moon and back. Just when I think that I know almost all of the historical elements of any of these early space programs, your documentary and research work always sheds new light. I was but a young NASA brat living in the Johnson Space Center area at the time of all of this, and though I don't personally remember a lot of details, I definitely remember the energy and focus towards the goal of the moon. I watched Project Gemini Part 1 shortly after you first released it, and very much looked forward to Part 2. Your efforts are greatly appreciated! Thank You!
Simply stunning production quality for a "homemade" channel. And I'd like to take a moment to specifically point out the excellent scripting/delivery/audio quality of the dialogue, which ties it all together. Firm, confident, self-assured, well-rehearsed, no stumbles or fumbles of pronunciation. If I had to describe the audio in one word: "polished". Outstanding work mate, thank you indeed.
I’ve been anticipating Project Gemini Part II for so long and having watched it I must say that I consider this series to be the definitive video history of the Gemini program. Well done! Watching your videos on the space program brings back those wonderful days of my youth, watching Walter Cronkite on CBS describing the missions of Mercury, Gemini and Apollo. Thank you.
I always found Project Gemini to be the most fascinating US space flight program. That exciting phase between Mercury and Apollo - Ed White's first EVA, space docking, the spinning incident, all the problems and solutions that prepared NASA for Apollo ... and the footage they took looks so great! Combined with the best space documentary series I have ever seen, this is gonna be amazing. Absolutely marvelous work as always!
SO EXCITED. These are the best documentaries I've ever seen, especially on spaceflight. Keep up the great work, and thank you for all the effort that went into this work.
I can tell you are a space nut like me because every time a Titan launch was shown you played actual Titan launch sounds. There’s no mistaking that high pitched whine that happens at engine start during a Titan launch. Good attention to detail sir! ❤
I wanted to watch this the minute it dropped, had to force myself to wait until I had time to watch the whole thing. Worth it! The amazing quality of your work is, uh...amazing.
It is September 2024. After pretty much exactly 58 years, Gemini 11's record Earth orbit apogee has been surpassed by a commercial space flight, Polaris Dawn, which also set a record for the farthest distance that women has traveled away from Earth and the farthest distance that humans have gone into space since 1972 (Apollo 17). While Polaris Dawn's records will (hopefully) not stand the test of time, this documentary certainly will. Thank you for this monumental and award-worthy effort to summarize this often overlooked, but most important space program that molded most of the NASA personnel that made Apollo such a resounding success!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!! I’ve been wanting this new episode so badly and jumped out of my chair when you announced it not to long ago. I love your docu series and I think have been the best I have ever watched on the this subject with NASA and the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo missions! You sir have a true gift and thank you again for letting us watch your masterpiece!!
Yes the best in the business is back! I'd almost given up hope of a 2nd installment of your Gemini masterpiece! That's my next almost 3 hours sorted! Thanks again for what will no doubt be another masterpiece of manned space flight history.
I remember each Gemini flight, especially this one because it was so long. I could not wait to get home from school and turn on the tv for the latest updates.

I've learned so much watching your docs than I imagined I'd ever learn from a documentary. I wish there was a way to convey the regard I have for these docs. Thank you.
Thank you. I aim high and I do make mistakes. I try to acknowledge them when they happen, and I am the beneficiary of forgiving people like yourselves who appreciate what I try to accomplish each time. I hold myself to a high standard and aim for the fences - glad you enjoy my work. Thanks again
Ok, just watched it. You have surpassed yourself. Documentaries that are not dumbed down. Amazing. You deserve a million followers. And I can’t wait for the next one!
These documentaries are by far the best content on TH-cam! I've watched every single one, and I am so glad to see a new one posted! Thank you for your exceptionally detailed work!
I want to add something. Having watched every BBC and PBS (etc) documentary on the space program, I can say that your documentaries have majorly increased my understanding of this program. I probably understand four times more now than I ever did before. I understand the sequence of programs, and flights within them, and the way each one perfected a certain necessary aspect of moon flight. In other words, the space program, and the great engineering behind it, makes sense now. Compliments, again, from this engineer.
Bloody incredible. Insane the small stories that I'd have never known about. The umbilical failing and then there being a failing in guidance so the umbilical failure was actually a savior is just insane. You'd think divine intervention at that! Thanks so much ❤
I knew a fair amount about the Gemini program from other documentaries, but they all pretty much glossed over Gemini X-XII, so I loved the additional details on those missions. I also hadn’t ever heard of the alternative docking target or the problems that Gemini IX had with it. This was well worth the wait.
So many details , everything is explained so clearly, this work is complete. It tells us how the right people made the difference, on the ground and up there in space. Everything is in context, it feels like if we know those guys personally (mission control and astronauts ), it is a phenomenal series of documentaries. Ever since i discovered Homemade Documentaries, years ago , i really need this complete coverage of a topic , in a professional, serious but highly entertaining fashion to be hooked on on docs of historical events of that kind; for hours. We love to learn don't we ? Fantastic work .👏👏👏
This is beyond amazing. The care and craft you put into this is second to none. You gave more than earned my sub. Can’t wait to see what you do next!!! ❤

Absolutely fabulous! Thank you for a really fantastic documentary, way better than virtually everything else, from ANY source. I was a school kid when all this was happening, and can now re-live it all in terrific detail. Forever grateful, thank you! G’day from downunder 🇦🇺
Just finished watching this with the family. Wanted to add my two cents worth to everyone else’s comments. Fantastic, brilliant, interesting, captivating, all the words. These are all so well done, it’s amazing. Congrats on another superb documentary.
Haven’t even watched this yet but I’m already commenting just to make sure everyone knows how truly excited I am to watch this. Also, if you’re not supporting this guy on Patreon yet, do yourself and all of us a favor and cough up the $5 a month so we can keep getting content this incredible.
Excellent video. When I was growing up in the 1960's and 70's, the astronauts were my personal heroes, because they were doing things that most everyone else thought were impossible. It truly saddened me when the Apollo program ended - it was mans greatest accomplishment.
Man, I had been waiting for this episode. I was really looking forward to it, and you did not disappoint! I had never seen so much footage from the Gemini 6A + 7 rendezvous before, beautiful. I've also never heard so much detail about Neil & Dave's wild ride.
Another fantastic doc. As always, kudos to you - mr "Homemade" - these docs do not appear homemade at all. Rather, each production is researched and professionally projected to a level I can only attribute to Andrew Chaikin before you. I never knew how long Gemini 8 actually struggled with their thruster. It was also chilling, but at the same time reaffirming, to listen in on Stafford's remarks during the GT-9A struggle. Stafford was a real commander, and obviously ready for his upcoming challenge on Apollo X. May he rest in peace. Again, thank you. I can only hope you continue your doc ventures into STS. There are lots of interesting flights to cover, both manned and unmanned. I am sure you already know of this, but Wayne Hale's blog might give you some interesting back stories. All the best /E
1:02:10 - Forgot to add "CGI" tag for the Gemini 8 spinning sequences. Oops!
Literally unwatchable!

oh wow i just found your channel not too long ago and finished gemini part 1 _literally_ 30 seconds ago. this feels serendipitous. good stuff!
Thank you!
Bloody incredible. Insane the small stories that I'd have never known about. The umbilical failing and then there being a failing in guidance so the umbilical failure was actually a savior is just insane. You'd think divine intervention at that!
Thanks so much ❤
YESSSSS HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!! Ive binged all these videos so many times and have been waiting for this part 2. I'm so happy!!!
Thank you JT for an absolute banger of a video. We appreciate all the hard work and dedication that went into this one!
I knew a fair amount about the Gemini program from other documentaries, but they all pretty much glossed over Gemini X-XII, so I loved the additional details on those missions. I also hadn’t ever heard of the alternative docking target or the problems that Gemini IX had with it. This was well worth the wait.
Thanks for releasing the video exactly on my birthday :D
Awesome video btw.
GREAT video :) i was watching this stuff live..bUT had not actually seen MOST of this. Thanks
It's been awhile since my jaw dropped when I see my TH-cam feed, but this did it. YEEAAAHHH!
Fantastic work .👏👏👏
Thanks man, these docs are easily the best thing online.
When we needed him most, he returned! Thanks for the work you do in these, Lord knows how much work goes into these.
This is beyond amazing. The care and craft you put into this is second to none. You gave more than earned my sub. Can’t wait to see what you do next!!! ❤
My Dude ! You always come with your videos like great surprise! Good to see your new work!
Another fantastic documentary! Thoroughly professional and highly informative, intelligent and inspiring. Thank you for what must have been a monumental effort. Great stuff!
AWWWWWWWYISSSSSSSSSS I work nights, and guess who is gonna be tired tonight at work? Welcome back, Tyler. I have been waiting for this.
Thank you for all the hard work you put into this!!
Good work my man. The attention to detail is amazing. I look forward to the next one.
Absolutely fabulous! Thank you for a really fantastic documentary, way better than virtually everything else, from ANY source. I was a school kid when all this was happening, and can now re-live it all in terrific detail. Forever grateful, thank you!
G’day from downunder 🇦🇺
Let's goooo!!!!!! Your videos are by far my favorite aerospace videos out there!!!!
Riveting, informative and beautiful. This channel is the gold standard of documentary making on youtube.
OH WOW ITS HERE!!!!!
So excited for this, thank you for your hard work
Another amazing super high quality documentary, a rare bright star among the noise and clutter, please keep doing these sir.
Excellent video. When I was growing up in the 1960's and 70's, the astronauts were my personal heroes, because they were doing things that most everyone else thought were impossible. It truly saddened me when the Apollo program ended - it was mans greatest accomplishment.
Absolutely spectacular. I watched every mission as a kid in the 1960’s, and this allowed me to relive those moments. Amazing work…
Man, I had been waiting for this episode.
YESSSS I swear I watch your videos daily. Content is unmatched!
Really engrossing! Thanks for all the effort involved in making this documentary.
The only notification I get excited about. Tks JT.
This was needed. Its like a refreshing glass of ice-cold ( insert favorite drink here ).
Keep up the good work, Jackson.
Only 75000 subs??? Wtf?? Your channel is awsome
Best Gemini documentary I’ve seen. Great stuff.
Best documentaries about the space program! The wait is over ❤
