  • This documentary takes us to the most iconic base camp of all at the foot of the highest mountain in the world, Mount Everest (8848M)
    Flying on a hair raising flight to Lukla, 15 trekkers, from Exodus Treks, walk through Sherpa Country past cultivated farms and settlements, through forests and into high altitude glaciated scenery. We visit the incredible Monastery at Thyangboche and witness the awe inspiring views of Himalayan peaks such as Ama Dablam and of course Mount Everest. Our Journey ends in Nepals mystical capital, Kathmandu.

    Thank you for promoting Everest base camp trekking via a video, good job dear Phillip Burrows especially for the detail narration . You were lucky with weather so you made a great video. I also have been guiding the travelers to Everest base camp almost 30 times since 2001 already. Congratulations !

      Thanks for your comments. Yes, we were really lucky with the weather, however on the first day we couldn't land at Lukla due to low cloud so spent an evening at Ramechap Mantalla. The Khumbu region has a special place in my heart, lovely scenery and lovely people. Wow! I envy you having done EBC 30 times, what an achievement. All the best, Phil

    This is one of the best EBC videos in all of TH-cam. I search for new ones everyday. Well shot, no obnoxious techno music, and great narration. Congrats. I'm going in April by myself to scatter my wifes ashes. This was a big help. Nate and Kara have a great one, too, as well as DomOntheGo, IndigoTraveller, Fultiltward, and Jackson Groves to name a few. Thanks a bunch.

    Hi Phil - Many thanks for producing this video. We did the EBC trek with Exodus exactly one year earlier in Oct 2016; we arrived at EBC on the 30/10/16, so your excellent and very well made video of the trek brought back some unique and truly unforgettable memories of a once in a life-time experience. We fell in love with Nepal and are already booked to do the Annapurna Sanctuary + Poon Hill trek for November this year. We did Machu Picchu via the high passes / Mt Salkantay last year; also with Exodus which I can deff' recommend. Thanks again for the great memories + great soundtrack !!!!! Dave McK - Bolton.

      Thanks, David, for your comments. The Khumbu region is indeed a special place. Climbing up to Namche, though, was a killer. This was my 4th trek to Nepal and I've mostly used Exodus. You should enjoy the Annapurna's, I did the circuit 4 years ago and have plans to go back there within the next two years. Machu Picchu is also on my bucket list. Glad you like Floyd! and the other tracks.
      I'm off the do the high peaks of Bulgaria in 2 weeks. Atb, Phil

    • @dudhkosi723
      @dudhkosi723  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used a Panasonic HC-V770 camcorder to do my filming and took 6 batteries (4hrs each) and I find on the EBC trek I only used 4 batteries. You can charge phones, cameras in the tea houses. I don't use a phone to film, my phone would give me poor res. A light weight tripod comes in handy for time lapse filming. Also a selfie stick is ideal when crossing bridges as you don't need to bother someone else to film you (as no doubt others will be busy negotiating their steps and wouldn't want to film). Are you planning on doing EBC? Thanks for watching, Phil

    Phil - loved the video and the music score. I'm going in October 2018. I'll be 73 so hope I can make it all the way to EBC - wish me luck. I wanted to hear a little bit more details about the food, how you prepared for the trip, your physical challenges, etc., but it was the best video I have seen out of the many I have watched. Thank you for sharing your experience with those who may follow your footsteps to ECB!

    • @dudhkosi723
      @dudhkosi723  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi AminGlad you enjoyed the video. Good luck on your trek in October.There are two sections of 300m steep ascents that can present a physical challenge, one ascending to Namche and the other ascending to Thyangboche. Just take your time and drink plenty of water with plenty of rests. The rest of the trek is undulating especially on the khumbu glacier approaching EBC where there are only short ascents up and down.The food is well varied from Omelettes, Pizzas, good soups, apple pie is astounding - to Sherpa stew and traditional dal bhat (Lentils/Rice with a curry) There's so much choice on offer. In preparing for your trek If you can manage to ascend a mountain each weekend that should be adequate training. I am lucky I live only 90mins away from the English Lake District and Snowdonia.I would suggest that you don't buy water a sit can become expensive, I use to get my water container filled up in the tea houses and used a steri-pen to purify the water. There are plenty of purifying tablets available.Hope you have a good time and again good luck. Phil

    Hi Philip I’m watching most vids and then I see this which I found easy to understand some key parts ... I’m going my self with a friend start of March wondering if I wear shorts on half of the way then switch to wool base layer on the other .. I see most are simple folk with less hiker clothing on but you guys went in October . I sense a northern accent so I’m also a Yorkshire lad so should be a great challenge

    • @dudhkosi723
      @dudhkosi723  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Steliano, Thanks for watching. You'll have a fantastic time in March, as for most of the trek shorts will be ideal and the use of layer clothing so if it's too hot you can remove a layer. Day time temps can be easily 18 degree + but it can get really cold at night so a duvet jacket or Gilet is okay for pottering around in. I'm assuming you are not camping. I found temperatures quite comfortable in Oct and I only used a basic 2-season sleeping bag as I was staying in tea houses/hotels. You are right about a Northern accent but I wear the red rose of Lancashire, St Helens to be precise. Well enjoy the experience and stay safe. Atb, Phil

    Did you ask your guide why he took you both up and down via Tengpoche when there is a much better route with better views on the opposite side of the valley? The High Scenic Trail via Mong La - Phortse - Pangpoche is higher with awesome views across the valley, a lot of wildlife (musk deer, Himalayan tahr) and practically no trekkers. Tengpoche can be visited on the way down.

    • @dudhkosi723
      @dudhkosi723  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting observation. I have done Mong via phortse tenga and Merchermo while I did the Gokyo route in 2007 and found it very beautiful but never thought on this time- as you say we could of taken a higher route to Pangboche rather than repeating the Tengboche route twice. We had lost a day due to not being able to land at Lukla (weather issues) we landed on another airstrip till the next day when we could land at Lukla so whether that had some bearing on the matter. Maybe too many changs I'm not sure. Anyhow weather was kind and everyone managed to keep up and everyone had a memorable experience. Thanks for watching, Marc and for your comments - Phil

    • @marcmanitou4182

      @@dudhkosi723 That High Scenic Trail via Phortse seems to be the best kept secret in Khumbu. It has been there for hundreds of years, after all, but practically no guide or Nepalese agency suggest it to their customers. They just want to offer the safe same same to everybody. Some big name agencies like NatGeo, Adventure Consultants etc have actually started using recently (and charge twice the money for the privilege).

    Hey Phil, have to say this is one of the best EBC treks I’ve seen in a long time. Great and in-depth. I’m looking to do it next year so doing lots of research and watching great films like yours. Have a question, did you get cash ok as I’ve heard the atm machines are not so good and you’re not allowed to bring currency into the country. How did you cope with that? Hope you’re next adventure is just as good 🏔

    • @dudhkosi723
      @dudhkosi723  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Thanks for the comments. As you have noted you cannot take Nepalese Rupee into the Country. I took English sterling approx £300 and changed this at the Hotel in Kathmandu and the rate was pretty good (approx 140 rupee to £1) Don't take £50 notes difficult to change. There are ATM's in Kathmandu which I found worked. Some only have a limit of £100. Credit cards are accepted in larger shops and Restaurants. On trek there are ATM's at Lukla, where you land and Namche, but other than that there is little opportunity to obtain cash, possibly some of the larger Tea Houses/Hotels might. If you buy water this can be expensive I took a UV steri-pen to treat the tap water. Also beer can be expensive on trek. Hope you get there next year - I guarantee you won't regret it. Atb Phil

    Cheers Christine

    • @dudhkosi723
      @dudhkosi723  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Christine. Glad you enjoyed the vid. It was an amazing experience. Good luck for September. You were quite perceptive with our ages as some of us are quickly approaching 60, I'm 57. Most were in their 50's and two members were 63ish. As long as you get some day mountain/hill walks in at least once a fortnight combined with whatever exercise you participate in gradually leading to once a week up a hill nearing the time you should have no problems. I found swimming was my alternate activity as I soon get bored in the gym. There are two serious steep ascents, the first up to Namche where you ascend 600m in 3 hours and the other is ascending to Thyangboche monastery. But its not a race, plenty of rests and drink plenty of water. I can get cramp easy so I use "electroytes plus" 2 tablets you suck on a day this gives the necessary minerals and salts to avoid lactic acid build up which leads to cramp. Again, I can't stress enough about drinking plenty of water. Also avoid alcohol until after base camp. From Loboche I suggest taking a daily asprin as you are approaching 5000m, obviously if you have any severe headaches speak to your guide. Some people were taking Diamox for altitude symptoms - but personally I won't go there.
      Thanks for your comments and have a great time - Phil

      Phillip Burrows Hi Phil, Your video was a pleasure to watch, and i was happy to see that some money was also raised for thoes effected by the earthquake.
      I do have a question and that is why did you not take diamox? Do you know of any side effects and its interaction with alcohol or other drugs?

    • @dudhkosi723
      @dudhkosi723  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. Thanks for your comments.
      There are two schools of thought on the use of diamox. One thought is it works for rapid ascents (which you are not doing rapid) and the other school of thought is that it can mask symptoms of acute mountain sickness - Altitude sickness happens when you go too high too fast and is avoidable with rest. If you have serious headaches, breathing issues etc.. you should descend and then re-ascend.
      Diamox is a diuretic so you will pee regularly, not a bad thing during the day but you will be up a number of times in the cold nights visiting the toilet. You can also get a tingling sensation in your fingers. You can take it with you but only use it when needed.
      I used Ginko Biloba, its natural plant and no side effects and it aids oxygen circulation and is available without prescription. I am not sure of diamox interaction with alcohol or other drugs - but if you want to really increase your chances of reaching EBC leave off alcohol, until your descent. Drink at least 4 litres of water a day and take your time. - Phil

    • @dudhkosi723
      @dudhkosi723  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheRAYZZOR The cost for 17 days EBC trek with Exodus starts from £2,349. There's a Visa which costs £30. It is estimated that you need approx £30 a day on trek for food and drinks. I didn't buy water I used the local tap water and used a steri pen (UV light) to treat it. The higher you go the more expensive things seem to be. Beer is approx £6.00 a can. But it's best to keep off the beer while ascending to ensure better chances of success. Drink plenty of water to keep hydrated and to limit effects of altitude sicknesses.
      Hope you do get the chance to go, it will be the experience of a lifetime. Best wishes, Phil

      Thanks. I agree Pink Floyd rules! I have used Floyd in quite a few of my vids but "wish you were Here" and some other tracks seems to get taken off by TH-cam which leaves the videos with sudden blank music sections, often removing the narration as well. "The Division Bell" doesn't seem to get taken off. So if it wasn't for TH-cam performing rights rulings Pink Floyd would feature heavily on all my work. Phil
