How Dana Carvey kept a straight face through the Church Lady skits is on of life's great mysteries.
It's called doing it so many times before making tv to get it out of his system. Same with all comedians.
They all did in those days. They were professional.
Unlike the later year juveniles like Fallon, Sanz, Hader, Jones and the rest who think breaking character is funnier than the character itself.
I wonder that also .but today I can see way they don't break character cause it's not funny , almost like the skit is the joke.
His impression of George H. W. Bush, from tone to syntax, was exceptional. I couldn't distinguish between them. It must have entailed a great deal of study and refinement. A very talented fellow.
Major Props 2 Rob Lowe for having the guts to do this skit after his sex tape scandal.
I think Rob Lowe had the first 'celebrity sex tape scandal'.
He was cancelled and came back before we had a word for it.
‘Bad Influence’ was and still is one of Rob’s best roles.

Going to see SNL live is a bucket list item for me, I'm so jealous! I was under 18 then but I'd probably have rushed the stage for Rob Lowe and gotten arrested 😉

I loved his character on 'Parks n Rec'.
Saw this when it was brand new in 1990 & its still just as hilarious as it was back then. Especially when Church Lady grabs that paddle & starts spanking Lowe while yelling “GET OUT OF HIS BUTTOCKS SATAN!”. Haha. Possibly the funniest thing I’ve ever seen.

This is hilarious to me that he’d be willing to humble himself for a joke like that, but I can’t imagine the impact it had on girls in the 80’s when that was a lot more risqué, and when he was a lil closer to their age 😂

Bad Infuence is a great early 90s L.A. neo noir thriller for anyone who hasn't seen it. Rob Lowe really is excellent in it. He's basically the first Tyler Durden. His best performance IMHO. James Spader is in it as well and it's directed by the late, great Curtis Hanson of the masterpiece L.A. Confidential.
