Rafa is a philosopher at heart🤣. But seriously though, he possesses the ability and clarity to cut through everything and go straight to what really matters. There is such wisdom in what he often says which is applicable to every day life
That sentence surely means Rafa stops playing singles just before reaching the GS record and becomes a full time doubles player (jk) His english is much better and being around other english speaking players much more helps him with useful english expressions, phrasal verbs etc. Rafa became full time professional at 15 (no time to properly learn basic english grammatic structure which is very different to spanish) and his tennis team has no english native speaker which made him difficult to learn a language from another family language "tree" (not the romances) As for instance, he's more confident speaking french or italian (even if he knows less vocabulary on those two)

On paper Europe should have won much more easily. 39 Grand Slam titles for goodness sake. But it took until the very last match tiebreak to win, so hats off to Team World.
Roger can speak 17366384848 languages but Spanish isn't one of them. He isn't willing to learn Spanish because that's the only reason to keep Rafa within his arm's reach in friendly manner / exhibition / events without everybody being suspicious lol
@@wonderlandian8465 Nah man, I've seen press conferences in the past where the journalist asked a question by looking directly at a player and calling him by the wrong name (a player who wasn't even competing at the tournament). Also look at the press conference after team Europe won - the very first question was, "How does this win compare to you previous 3 Laver Cup wins?" They are absolute tools who just do a quick 10 minute research before the interviews. They know nothing about the sport.
Also in addition to learning French in school as a child, Roger spent his teen years at the Swiss national tennis training center which is in the French speaking part of Switzerland. And his mom is English speaking South African.
Last man standing at the end of the party. Roger said it wouldn't be him, Bjorn looked as though he wouldn't even be able to get to the party. Fognini also looked out of it already so my guess would definitely be the youngest, Tsitipas.
Normally he's not participative. But Bjorn is really excited about Laver Cup and the things that encompasses the event. It's great to see him get engaged and be active again with the sport.
Some painful heads this morning :P I wonder who was the last man standing? Probably Bjorn, he's had plenty of practice the last few days(just standing) and it's always the quiet ones who can knock back the celebrations in the corner watching others fall by the wayside haha
It was a two fold question. First part was about his injury, wether it was serious enough or not, and wether he'd played through it in another competition or champioship that wasn't this one (suggesting implicitly that this Cup isn't that important). Second one was which competition thinks he's more important, this one (Sponsored and organized by Roger Federer, a personal friend of his) or the new format Davis Cup (sponsored and organized by spanish football player Gerard Piqué). In fact that last one was quite poisonous in the way it was formulated because it was more a "would you prefer playing in your friend's tournament, or in a spanish guy's tournament"... with the added extra that Gerard Pique is a highly controversial figure in the spanish media for a lot of reasons (very vocal FC Barcelona player, lots of controversies about his published opinions about Real Madrid, etc), and that of course in the Davis Cup Nadal'd be representing Spain in a competition that, change of format or not, still is labelled "Davis cup", not a "team europe" in a very new tournament created a few years ago, that still doesn't give any ATP points, and that some pundits insist in labelling as little more than an "exhibition" format. he answered the 2nd one first (it's clear Rafa's no fool and he clearly saw the reporter was trying to get some juicy stuff for his news report). He essentially stated that every time he's been called by any team for a competition, he's always answered the call and been there, as long as his body and physical shape have allowed him to do so, and that the Davis Cup won't be any different. He then said that his personal team and himself would analyze the situation when it's time to do so, and take a decision about the Davis Cup based on only that particular reason - wether it'd be good for him and his objectives to play the Davis Cup or not, regardless of who organizes it. As for the first question, he straight up answered that the only reason he didn't play is because he couldn't. That he was fully committed to the team in this cup and that he was really excited to play with Roger again in the doubles match - but that he just couldn't, so he didn't, that it'd been no different in any other competition, that yesterday he already did an effort to play and that today he couldn't ,so he let someone else in the team to take his spot.
ramjb Wow!!! thank you for the translation and i appreciate esp the feedback on Rafa’s smart delivery of his response..the press can be tricky and can “fish” out controversies, and Rafa is polite but indeed “no fool”, in addressing them. You captured that and it helped us non-Spanish speaking viewers, to get into that moment..gracias
the most important link to win is the TEAM SPIRIT. AND THAT is why I blv THIS TEAM is a WINNER. (As rafa said- something very close to this team spirit idea - is the heart issue).. And the nervousness of the coach is a totally wrong thought!! ID cower at this expression.....As a coach youre ALWAYS ON TOP TO WIN and ENCOURAGE .. YIU ALWAYS BELIEVE in your team apart from coaching to win.

@@sureshbabusri9331 Quite possible. He has always maintained a low profile therefore I don't remember much about him. He played after the Sampras Agassi era too, I think, but got faded away thanks to Fedal and the others.
And he is also an Honory member too.. He is so involved that the current president actually campaigns him to take over the Reigns as president of the club after Rafa completes mandatory 20 years as being the club member ( He is board member from 2011) As far as I heard he played a key role in Real Madrid signing Marco Ascensio.
They're supportive to try and get him to win for the team. But of course he's overrated. He's a best of 3 set player who's dangerous in any 3 set competition but not good enough to challenge in the slams.
@@RS-hh3etThey've both supported him to win a GS for the next gen when he came out a couple of years ago, especially rafa and objectively you can see why, game wise he doesn't have a lot of flaws quality serve/return/backhand aggressive, good work rate, and mentally i think he's got the right amount of confidence. Coming back to the slams point, he's 22 still, rog won his first at 21 and was under achieving enormously untill 2002 same with novak, not every one can win a slam at 19 and acheive a career grand slam at 23 like rafa so you have to adjust your standards and look at it from a wider and realistic perspective.
Actually Roger is the one who has taken Sasha under his wing so to speak since he was a young age and started having success. Sasha also just signed with Roger’s management team hence Roger is now invested in him professionally as well. And yes, Sasha may or may not improve in Slams but for now he has performed below expectations in GS’s and he didn’t have a great season this far. That’s why ppl criticize him. He’s also arrogant at times.
@@eliasmikealson4476 First of all you've your "ages all wrong". And secondly of course they're going to say nice things when pressed about him 100 times in different interviews..When asked if he could challenge for grand slams they're not going to say "no" are they . And what they say about him being a great player is true..he is dangerous to anyone in best of 3. It's just he doesn't have what it takes in the best of 5 format...He's still dangerous but he's also capable of being beaten by huge numbers of players. If he manages to scrape through a few rounds he's picked off easily in the 3rd 4th round maybe quarters.
@@RS-hh3et Ok rog was 22 not 21 and rafa 24 not 23 sue me lol, i don't disagree with you in regards to zverev's achievements because there is nothing to disagree about those are facts but to say he is overrated is a bit much because another fact is he is still 22(i checked).I don't see anyone under 25 being consistent in slams recently, no one at any age really apart from the obvious 3/4/5 players, that's why i talked about adjusting the standards as we are used to a level of consistency throught the last 15 years that's not normal but because of how long it lasted, has somewhat shifted the bar of normality for the public opinion.
Compare this press conference to team world's, swearing, childish mocking, drinking while the question was asked not even paying attention, i mean those idiots need to understand that journalism is what will help promote a competition like this, roger, rafa and novak won't be around in ten years and it's certainly not shapovalov who is gonna bring crowds.
Agree.. the decency of Federer and Nadal shows quite clearly in these moments, such great ambassadors of Tennis! The other players were here for the “good time” more than anything
Some people think that tennis is too uptight. And why single out Shapovalov? He’s talented and a great guy and wasn’t the one swearing and chugging beer
@@natka9876Chugging beer while simultaniously ignoring an ongoing question and swearing and mockig a person doing his job however badly you think he is doing it isn't the opposite of uptight it's just disrespectfull, being yourself while being a brat is no better than alledgedly putting on a show for the press like novak does according to nick because at the end tennis players players are public figures and many ppl are inspired by the good and bad, it's not a weakness of character to recognise a flaw in one's self and try to change it instead of sticking to it because you're so real and proud of being real albeit real prick. I didn't single out shapovalov in regards to the behaviour but rather as one of the 2/3 young players in that team who has yet to prove anything that may create public recongition and attraction to a new event that needs promoting and support from the young guys and handling press helps you do that.
@Elias Mikealson Tennis press conferences can be very dull, repetitive and too PC. Contrary to your statement, Nick who was chugging the beer and mocked the Italian reporter’s question as the most stupid question he’s ever heard, puts bums in the seats. If you ever watch a press conference for an MMA fight there’s a lot of trash talking and that draws huge crowds. I’m not arguing whether it’s good or bad. I agree that the younger guys need to step up their game. Handling press - I don’t know, I’ve watched a lot of post match interviews where I had to shake my head at how stupid and repetitive the questions were. Some folks are loving it when Nick blatantly tells reporters his mind.
@@natka9876 Yes press is very repetitive and journalist are often dull, predictable, asking "stupid" questions if you will and ppl are drawn to the unconventionnal and laugh at it but there is a fine line between genuinity and being deliberatly and purposefully rude, the latter may attract more views on social media but will never have the impact of the amount of respect ppl have for players like rafa/roger/novak/andy/stan/del potro... and in the long haul that aura is what will benefit tennis both from the viewer's point of view and from the young upcoming player's.
Congrats to Team Europe 💪🔥. But in my humble and neutral opinion, it isn't good for the event as a whole for the same team to always win...just sayin' , it gets predictable and boring
Asking Rafa to answer ... Roger got to know that Rafa only answers questions in very vague generic sentences with his heavy accent. I find it quite funny, as my impression of Nadal in my comedic video on tennis players was just that.
@@Nina-oi1qk The second question sounded like a setup. "As of now, Which one do you care for the most, this cup organized by your friend Roger or the upcoming Davis Cup run by your countryman Piqué? Rafa tried not to give the journalist anything he could play with afterwards.
It is unfortunate, or FORTUNATELY- they both hail from EUROPE, the best ones do. US tennis needs to develop new generation players to represent the States in big competitions, win GS Tournaments like the days of the Connors, McEnroe, Sampras, Agassi..

On paper Europe should have won much more easily. 39 Grand Slam titles for goodness sake. But it took until the very last match tiebreak to win, so hats off to Team World.
Cameraman should have just kept a wide shot.
Congratulations Team Europe !
I am so surprised that journalist is on “Tu” terms with Roger?! Like are you guys buds or something.
Roger can speak 17366384848 languages but Spanish isn't one of them. He isn't willing to learn Spanish because that's the only reason to keep Rafa within his arm's reach in friendly manner / exhibition / events without everybody being suspicious lol
Borg is great!
Why no questions for Fognini, Thiem and Tsitsipas?
The media doesn't know them.
@@sasho888prm I guess so.
If you were a journalist and you know you only have a shot, whom would you choose?
@@sasho888prm I mean they definitely know them, just that most questions would obviously be about Roger and Rafa
@@wonderlandian8465 Nah man, I've seen press conferences in the past where the journalist asked a question by looking directly at a player and calling him by the wrong name (a player who wasn't even competing at the tournament).
Also look at the press conference after team Europe won - the very first question was, "How does this win compare to you previous 3 Laver Cup wins?"
They are absolute tools who just do a quick 10 minute research before the interviews. They know nothing about the sport.
Could we get wide angle shot plz
Love Bjorn's watch. meaning to buy one!
Damn, Roger knows how to speak French too!😀
and German.
And Chinese....😂😂
Also in addition to learning French in school as a child, Roger spent his teen years at the Swiss national tennis training center which is in the French speaking part of Switzerland.
And his mom is English speaking South African.
I do believe French is one of his native languages.
Last man standing at the end of the party. Roger said it wouldn't be him, Bjorn looked as though he wouldn't even be able to get to the party. Fognini also looked out of it already so my guess would definitely be the youngest, Tsitipas.
Watching borg this engaged is really something.
Normally he's not participative. But Bjorn is really excited about Laver Cup and the things that encompasses the event. It's great to see him get engaged and be active again with the sport.
omg, Bjorn is so awesome!!😂😂😂😂
IceBorg...
Congrats
Fantastic!
Is Thiem going to be invited next year 🤪
Daniil would have been my pick if he didn't opt to play in moscow.
Can Rafa understand French? Does Roger understand Spanish?
Rafa understands French very well and can speak a little bit. Don't think RF understands Spanish.
Some painful heads this morning :P
I wonder who was the last man standing? Probably Bjorn, he's had plenty of practice the last few days(just standing) and it's always the quiet ones who can knock back the celebrations in the corner watching others fall by the wayside haha
What happened with Roberto? wasn't he supposed to play for Rafa?? what's the point of the alternate then!
Felipe Mendoza It‘s just for the first two days, because 6 different players have to play
@@Esthicleo Where does it says that? didn't knew...

It's a hat-trick for Team Europe...big congratulations...

Why is he "your boy"??? Are you gay or something? Or his dad?

Someone please translate the question and answer in Spanish. Thanks in advance!
Rafa was watching real madrid match. Hala Madrid
@@ramjb Thanks, I was also looking for a translation comment like this.
ramjb Wow!!! thank you for the translation and i appreciate esp the feedback on Rafa’s smart delivery of his response..the press can be tricky and can “fish” out controversies, and Rafa is polite but indeed “no fool”, in addressing them. You captured that and it helped us non-Spanish speaking viewers, to get into that moment..gracias
@@bengp3070 You're quite welcome ;).
the most important link to win is the TEAM SPIRIT. AND THAT is why I blv THIS TEAM is a WINNER. (As rafa said- something very close to this team spirit idea - is the heart issue).. The dream europe team would be roger rafa novak tiem
"What *what*?!"
Who is on the right of Roger?
Thomas Enqvist (The Vice captain of Team Europe)
@@MsScorpyscorp I remember now. He had played in Pete Sampras era. Right?
@@sureshbabusri9331 Quite possible. He has always maintained a low profile therefore I don't remember much about him. He played after the Sampras Agassi era too, I think, but got faded away thanks to Fedal and the others.
Can you get much more italian-ian than Fognini?
Sascha puts himself in there 4:23
bruh the camera person must have a thing for zverev i mean sriously lmfaooo...he was on camera for like the first minute
rafa is real Madrid fan everybody......
Roger and rafa have always been supportive of sascha and then you see geniuses saying he is overrated.
As much as i like fabio they should picked wawrinka. Not sure what his injury status was tho
Even more so because Wawrinka is from Geneva.
Wawrinka was available but articles are there that Roger wanted him to play but Laver cup and Stan couldn't agree on financial stuff.
Drunk Roger is fun
But in my humble and neutral opinion, it isn't good for the event as a whole for the same team to always win...just sayin' , it gets predictable and boring
so you're saying the event should be scripted lol

And what about Novak? Where is he?
He was injured at the time
Asking Rafa to answer ... Roger got to know that Rafa only answers questions in very vague generic sentences with his heavy accent. I find it quite funny, as my impression of Nadal in my comedic video on tennis players was just that.
The first question from the Spanish journalist asked to Rafa was kind of disrespectful. As always, Rafa responded back with class.
what was the question? please.
What was the question?
what was asked and what was his response?
Just watch the video guys it's right at the beginning of the video lol but imo that was not THAT disrespectful but yeah Rafa always answer with class
@@Nina-oi1qk The second question sounded like a setup. "As of now, Which one do you care for the most, this cup organized by your friend Roger or the upcoming Davis Cup run by your countryman Piqué?
Rafa tried not to give the journalist anything he could play with afterwards.
But I mean the teams aren’t fair lol Rafa and Roger on the same team. Who stands a chance?
It is unfortunate, or FORTUNATELY- they both hail from EUROPE, the best ones do. US tennis needs to develop new generation players to represent the States in big competitions, win GS Tournaments like the days of the Connors, McEnroe, Sampras, Agassi..
@@bengp3070 Team world isnt all about US Tennis, what are you talking about? The WORLD needs better players. The always injured Del Potro would help them a great deal, also Nishikori and Anderson.
