@@lukomatico Just wanted to say Luke, I followed your instructions exactly, and it’s downloaded, installed into Pixinsight and working a treat mate!, just I noticed in the comments below, that some people had problems getting in to work! Your instructions worked for me!😀 Cheers Luke👍
Thanks for the video Luke (Cuiv mentioned you made a video about the PI integration). Been using GraXpert for couple of images already the 'old way' which was not so bad since it was able to do XISF files but since it is in PI it is much better. Cheers
Hi there Luke, regarding the new version 2.2.0 GraXpert, I notice if you tick the "Replace the target view" box & "Show background model" box, your astrometric data from wbpp stays intact. If you untick the "Replace the target view" box & get on with the process, you will lose the astrometric data. The Fits header remains blank & you have to use Image Solver before SPCC. Hope you get this message. Thanks mate.
I will definitely download and install it and integrate it in PixInsight. Do you have to do any settings in GraXpert? Or is just installing it and integrating it with PI and go?
If I may add, it does keep the astrometric data intact if you're using wbpp & not crop the image (usually wbpp does it for you), ready for the SPCC process.
When I found out I gave it a whirl, I have to say DBE's days are numbered this is such a great tool. Make sure everyone has a updated copy so that it integrates flawlessly.
Thanks for this Luke ! I'm late to the party with graxpert too but just downloaded and set up the script in pixinsight as per your video. I don't know why I hadn't done it sooner because you're right its incredible ! I don't know if you've had time to try this on an old mosaic where there's way more gradients it's just amazing !! I've tended to crop and then use the light pollution tool in APP straight after stacking but this is so much faster and better. Never really rated DBE & ABE so I think this will be my go to for gradients. Great video as always mate 👍 Wow I've just ran this over several images now and have to say it's almost as bigger game changer as blur exterminator (not quite) ! We just need one of these brainy people to come up with a script for halo removal 🤣

Ok, so it's not just my ancient PC taking forever to open GraXpert. I wonder if it's really taking that long to open or if it's a timed (and therefor terribly annoying) splash screen?
Good question mate!! I really don't know for sure, but I think it might be a splash screen you know, I feel like my pc should open such a relatively small program faster than it does (but it's a minor gripe overall)
I had seen Sasha’s video about this, so I downloaded GraXpert (Mac version) and followed the procedure for adding it as a script to PixInsight. Then I ran it on an APP-stacked image of M31 and I noticed in the PixInsight process box that it said it was downloading the AI component, and it then ran everything on the M31 image. So maybe Pixinsight will do this automatically if one hasn’t checked the AI item in GraXpert itself. I ran GraXpert a couple of more times within PixInsight, and it didn’t do the download routine again, so doing it once seemed to take care of it. I also compared a version of M31 with gradient removal performed in APP to the GraXpert version, and the GraXpert version was better. Not night and day better, but a bit better nonetheless. And way easier without needing to specify all those sample points. As you said in one of your replies to a comment, DBE is dead. Long live GraXpert! Also, don’t feel you need to mimic an assembly line and churn out videos on a weekly schedule. Take your time and enjoy life!😊
Hey there mate! - That's really good information, so glad to hear it will automatically download the AI itself, thank you ever so much for testing and sharing! :-) I really think it looks like DBE is done for haha, this tool is fantastic it seems! RE: the schedule, I appreciate that support mate - thank you very much :-) Clear skies!
Hey Luke. Cheers for the vid. You do great work👍👏. I am having a little problem🙈. Already had the AI version of GradEx installed. Added the link to the Pixinsight Repository and went through the check for updates. Closed & opened Pixinsight but no Toolbox menu within Scripts. Any ideas? Cheers man👍
Had a look at @astrjohnomer5636 comments below. All sorted now. Indeed I had to go into: Scripts - Feature Scripts - Add then into C:\Program Files\PixInsight\src\scripts\Toolbox.
You must set the path to GraXpert executable before running the script in Pixinsight. The only Graxpert folder I found on my C;\ after installing was under User\me\AppData\Local\GraXpert\GraxPert\ where I found a preferences.json - a JAVA script file. Is this the correct executable, because I could not find a graxpert.exe anyplace.
Hey mate! In the vid I show myself making a copy to the downloaded .exe and putting it in the pixinsight folder directly to solve this, give that a go 👍 Works great!
@@lukomatico My mistake, I should never make additions to Pixinsight late at night. Where does GraXpert fit into your workflow? Do you run it before or after BlurX?
Hi Luke, AVG is blocking graxpert from running and reports a virus every time you try to run graxpert in Pixinsight. What virus scanner are you using ?
I made a comment earlier about not being able to run Graxpert and I thought I should say that it turns out GraXpert will not run if I have my second monitor running as an extended display. it apperently cannot find an "end point"?
I got it all installed and it shows up in Pixinsight, but when I click on Graxpert, I get a signature validation error. Any idea what could be causing that? If I run Graxpert from the desktop it works fine, it's just through pixinsight, it I get that error, so it doesn't even pop up that window where you showed it where the program is located.
Sorry to hear that mate, I had a similar issue after the latest update - you can try to rename the graXpert version I believe to solve it, there's instructions online if you search for the specific error message IIRC 👍 Good luck!
Good to know Ana, thanks for the info! - on OSC images it seems to have the added effect of doing a background neutralize, giving the strong reds a head start before any further processing (still works fine with either my own manual method, or normalization tools though luckily!) Clear skies to you! :-)
Hi luk I hope you can help me. I followed your instructions but once I pasted the repository link and searched for updates, I got this message. As if he couldn't find it. The message in question is the following: "UNABLE TO DOWNLOAD REPOSITORY INFORMATION"
Anyone having an issue installing this? I get an error resolve issue with 404 error when checking for updates. I’ve double checked all addresses and verified all syntax is correct but cannot get it to update.
@lukomatico ive downloaded from your link. But when i click it, its not loading. I het the black graxpert" logo. But that stays on the screen and nothing happens. The graxpert window doesnt pop up.
I'm guessing at a PixInsight install age issue? my install is about a month old if that's any help, sorry I can't offer a concise solution for this mate :-(
Sorry to hear it mate! Are you on a relatively recent version of pixinsight? Mines about 1 month old I think for reference 👍 that'd be the first thing to check!
Thanks for the reply, worked out what to do. Went to scripts -feature scripts-add-then selected toolbox-select folder-then done , it will appear in script drop down.@@lukomatico
@@lukomatico I downloaded straight from the link. I contacted the website and they assured me it was safe and that it was, as you suggest Luke, a false positive.
Hey there! - just to be sure, and sorry if this seems obvious but, you're trying to import the URL into pixinsight and not trying to open to repository in a web browser, correct?
@lukomatico yes sir it is. When i go to start the graxpert process, the logo comes on the screen and nothing happens. Does that usually take a long time to open and run?
And of course it's not working with current versions of Pixinsight as 80% of these video tutorials never work with what you have. I Should have known better.

Hey there mate! - That's really good information, so glad to hear it will automatically download the AI itself, thank you ever so much for testing and sharing! :-)
I really think it looks like DBE is done for haha, this tool is fantastic it seems!
RE: the schedule, I appreciate that support mate - thank you very much :-) Clear skies!
Thanks Luke, I'll show this new feature to the French community on my channel .
Excellent to hear that my friend!! :-) That's a really good idea!
Clear skies to you!
Sorry about the late reply mate!! I'm very glad you found the solution and shared it here!! :-)
Enjoy 🙏
This has quickly become my new favorite tool... Along with APP lol
Same here Walter!! It's so darn good, haha
That's a video idea I'm looking forward to. Hoping MARS performs really well
Hopefully yeah!! I'd love if it was the ultimate solution to all our gradient woes! :-) Clear skies!
Hey mate! In the vid I show myself making a copy to the downloaded .exe and putting it in the pixinsight folder directly to solve this, give that a go 👍
Works great!
Just windows defender mate! sorry I can't be much help here
I made a comment earlier about not being able to run Graxpert and I thought I should say that it turns out GraXpert will not run if I have my second monitor running as an extended display. it apperently cannot find an "end point"?
Very interesting information Bob!! That's something that'll likely end up ironed out in future patches/releases I'd hope.
All the best,
Luke
I got it all installed and it shows up in Pixinsight, but when I click on Graxpert, I get a signature validation error. Any idea what could be causing that?
If I run Graxpert from the desktop it works fine, it's just through pixinsight, it I get that error, so it doesn't even pop up that window where you showed it where the program is located.
Sorry to hear that mate, I had a similar issue after the latest update - you can try to rename the graXpert version I believe to solve it, there's instructions online if you search for the specific error message IIRC 👍
Good luck!
In my opinion, it works better on mono frames. It makes pictures more red if they are color. It could be fixed by running DBE after this.
Good to know Ana, thanks for the info! - on OSC images it seems to have the added effect of doing a background neutralize, giving the strong reds a head start before any further processing (still works fine with either my own manual method, or normalization tools though luckily!)
Clear skies to you! :-)
@@lukomatico Yes, this is what takes place. In any case, this is awesome software.
Hi luk I hope you can help me. I followed your instructions but once I pasted the repository link and searched for updates, I got this message. As if he couldn't find it. The message in question is the following:
"UNABLE TO DOWNLOAD REPOSITORY INFORMATION"
I'm afraid I don't really know what it could be mate!! May be worth another try today incase the server was experiencing a lot of load 👍
@@lukomatico ok thanks my friends... I will try ☺️
Outstanding!
Great video luke thank you mate cheers.
My pleasure! Thanks for watching mate :-)
Anyone having an issue installing this? I get an error resolve issue with 404 error when checking for updates. I’ve double checked all addresses and verified all syntax is correct but cannot get it to update.
Could be PixInsight version incompatibility? my install is perhaps 1-ish months old I think if that's any help!
Will this only work with the newest version of pixinsight? I got an error saying i dont have the newest version installed.
Mine is about a month old mate if that's any help 👍
Did you get the latest version of graXpert too?
@lukomatico ive downloaded from your link. But when i click it, its not loading. I het the black graxpert" logo. But that stays on the screen and nothing happens. The graxpert window doesnt pop up.
What is the link to the repository? I can't make it out from the video.
It's in the description mate 👍👍
I tried GraXpert AI on M33 and it failed miserably with the default settings. Clearly not ready for prime time.
Sorry to hear it mate! hopefully as the AI matures it'll be able to tackle even the most complex of gradients :-) Clear skies!
Late to this party! Amazing tool - has anyone got a tutorial to get CUDA/GPU acceleration to work ?
Good question!!
Pixinsight will not get the utility. Reports "invalid attribute name"?
I'm guessing at a PixInsight install age issue? my install is about a month old if that's any help, sorry I can't offer a concise solution for this mate :-(
Hi Luke, followed your install and the tool option did not show up in script drop down , any suggestion thanks
Thanks for the resolution! I had the same issue. @@astrjohnomer5636
I tried to downloadload this and my anti-virus quarantined it saying it has malware. Has anyone else had this problem?
the virus was Win64:Malware-gen
I'd double check this out, did you download direct from the link in the description?
It could be a false positive too.
@@lukomatico I downloaded straight from the link. I contacted the website and they assured me it was safe and that it was, as you suggest Luke, a false positive.
Pretty soon we wont be able to make the claim that astrophotography is "hard" 🤣
Lmao!! True mate honestly, and I'm here for it! 😂
Clear skies buddy!
This kind of performance...for FREE? Almost unheard of.
Agreed mate! Seems pretty crazy 👍👍 really happy with it so far!
repository will not load, network error code 404. i have removed it and added back in, no luck at all. also get signature error
Hey there! - just to be sure, and sorry if this seems obvious but, you're trying to import the URL into pixinsight and not trying to open to repository in a web browser, correct?
Network error on the repository info
You need to just copy the link into the scripts tool in pixinsight, not open it (that will return a 404 error)🙏 hope that helps!
@@lukomatico thanks I got it installed into PixInsight.
Brilliant :)
Thanks so much for watching and giving your support mate!! :-) Clear skies!
Anyone else not able to get graxpert to work?
Is your pixinsight up to date mate?
@lukomatico yes sir it is. When i go to start the graxpert process, the logo comes on the screen and nothing happens. Does that usually take a long time to open and run?
It does take a while to complete even on a fast system 👍
@lukomatico it takes a while for graxpert to even open?
Perhaps not open, no - but to actually run through a process it takes a little bit 👍
There has to be an easier way to add new features to PI...
I agree Peter, one day I'd hope it was easier - but for now this is all we've got! Clear skies mate :-)
correct
And of course it's not working with current versions of Pixinsight as 80% of these video tutorials never work with what you have. I Should have known better.
I can't help it when installation methods change over time mate, that's just the way things go
