My old man grew up surfing Jbay in the late 70s with a few of his mates. The stories he has from back then are incredible. Camping on the beach, catching waves all the way from Boneyards through to Albatross. Racing past Impossibles at full speed was always the challenge. Go as fast as you can and hope for the best... Perfect uncrowded waves. What dreams are made of.
Lived here 2019-2021 thinking of moving back. That year during lockdown once the surfing ban was lifted was the best waves of my life, constant 6-9m swells, peak El Nino. I was a bit undergunned with my 6'6" on a lot of those days but I really made the most of it, only skipping on one giant day due to it being so cold I was cramping all over and couldn't move, but having surfed an even bigger day which wasn't as icy, I have zero regrets. Invested in a better suit the following year needless to say though.
