Geez man, you shat all over their belief system of the Gwion gwion and their people before the Wandjina and land visitation was restricted east of Cape Londonerry all year. But slid in an aknowledgement of country. When the aboriginal corps hold the key to the gate and want to tell their story themselves this misinfo and pushing the flawed african theory is what gets us locked out unfortunately. The rough dating of gwion gwion, timelines in human history with advancement of watercraft, prolification of boabs unfortunately dont add up. With landbridges through the last glacial maximum, movement of tribes with changes to climate its a bit of a mordern civilisation veiw that aboriginal culture and beliefs could not change in 60,000 years. Look at how much western beliefs have changed in just the last 1000 years. Of course more contemporary tribes would not aknowledge them, they now believe in the wandjina thought to be only 1-4000 years, not the beliefs of the tribes who came before wandjinas. Ask someone living in palestinetoday what they think of christianity theyd probably say its rubbish too. Dig deeper into aboriginal culture of the the Kimberley, stories of Wannalirri and the great floods and things will start to add up and suprisingly line up with geological events throughout the earths history, atleast in the last 20,000 years. However love your channel! Gwion gwion sure are contraversal. Sorry!

Some great scenery, love the drone shots.
I was in South Africa on tour 2 years ago, and they have boab trees there exactly the same and can confirm they call them the upside down tree.
The rock art was fascinating, however you commented that they are the oldest living civilisation in the world. It was not a civilisation, Egypt was, Rome was but not indigenous Australia.
It is the oldest continuous living culture in the world.

Hi Jack - Nathan here (we met on Scott Reef trip) - An interesting factor in the Bradshaw discussion is also the discussion about the Sahul shelf's exposure above sea level during different ice age events. You can imagine that if during an ice age event the ocean water levels were much lower then the coast line would have been much further out and the Kimberley would have been high country. Imagine how much rock art and history is now covered by the ocean. Hope you and Fran are doing well mate. Cheers.

Had a similar theory when I was a kid - I grew up in the Kimberley, my dad was the Detective up there. My little theory was they started here in the Kimberley (the Boabs and the Africans). My theory was the Africans (Gion Gions) were the result of the first genetic experiments from the Winjinas (aliens). Then they left the Kimberley with the Boab nuts via the ocean currents which run from the Kimberley across to Madagascar and then down the African coast :-) - Far fetched I know hahah.. I was a kid though.

Such an amazing landscape! So huge an area of the Kimberly seems to be very flat-lying rock layers with a broad erosion “plateau” that covers thousands of hectares, and the streams with very low gradients pour into salt water bays over waterfalls, but there are no deltas of sand, gravel or cobbles as though the land has only “recently” been lifted above sea level. But the rocks look OLD!! And the iron stains on the rocks also would take a long time to develop along the water courses. Thanks so much for providing the tour of this area, as I know that I will never be able to travel there and see it for myself.

    • @AV036
      @AV036 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Water selectively eroded straight sheer faced rectangular blocks huh. OK, if Iron stains leach out of reinforced concrete in a matter of years. Cane toads lime calcium petrify in days. Diamonds and most gems are produced in hours. While a good volcano and half decent tsunami will turn it all upside down in a matter of minutes. 🤔

Couple of things that struck me… Firstly, happy birthday Strick! What a memorable birthday for ya.
Secondly, with the story of how the aborigines were known to paint over the Bradshaw art…. I am reflecting on how far back humanity was uncomfortable with other cultures. That we have felt that another’s existence on “our” land must be totally erased. That it somehow discredits our own culture and existence. I don’t know man… it just feels both fascinating and sad.

Those "Bradshaw drawings" are incredible. @5:40 there's actually multiple drawings. The main one focused on automatically screamed out to me as being very similar with the Egyptian god (or being) named "Thoth" with his huge, long beak. He's also holding things in both his hands (which I can't make out) but is very characteristic of Egyptian "gods" as well as other peoples deities like the Sumerian (Babylon, Akkad, Assyria, etc.) city states as well as the Aztec and Mayan people whom all depict some of their "gods" holding similar looking handbags. The other not-so-distinct figures remind me of the "ant people" of many legends and prevelant among some Native American tribes of North America, as being people who came to help the Native Americans before the Deluge. It's so crazy how seemingly on every continent on earth there is ancient archeological evidence of people having similar experiences all over the world at the same time with many of the same gods or beings. It's truly fascinating.

Mate, love all episodes. The raw beauty of Australia is magnificent, and your storytelling skills accentuate it well. Just FYI, in Africa we call it a baobab tree, and it's fruit is called cream of tartar, often used in baking, I believe. Also, the legend of the tree being uprooted and planted on it's head reaches much further than you'd thought. It's the same in South Africa and Zimbabwe, that I know of. But, it's probably the same tale wherever this species is found

PLEASE SHOW THE ART and not just your Great Time Adventuring. ive watched several Vids and its always just a glimpse.... so disappointed. I hope im not alone in this. History of our world and species is truly a mystery and may never know our origins. 60,000 years ago is long past any written records and here you are just passing the cam over them, making it seem like there nothing, tho your searching for them, as your passing the camera over them for 3 secs... sorry for the rant but man... so many hours watching the Vids and cant even get a decent scene of the cave art... i have no more words for how i feel and the sadness that is in myself... it was right there and still cant see it. I do love the videos but please dont go searching for cave art and then not give it it's due. Especially loved the kayaking Vids!

“In the mid 1990s the Australian rock art enthusiast Graeme Walsh asserted that Geeyorn paintings, which he called Bradshaws, were the work of an earlier race of people and were therefore of no significance to contemporary Aboriginal people. This is entirely rejected by Dambeemangaddee people and has no credibility today. Janet explains that the Geeyorn paint these images in caves and they also work with the Wandjina to ensure there are edible species of plants and animals in the surrounding caves where their images are found. Janet adds that Geeyorn are more commonly found in Wunambal and Ngarinyin country and that some of her Wunambal kin sing songs about the Geeyorn and have stories about how the Geeyorn care for country.” - Excerpt from Barddabardda Woojenangorddee: we’re telling all of you.
Caves and rock art are sacred places and many are not for public viewing. Visitors should always seek permission and be accompanied by a Traditional Owner.

NO MISTERY HERE MATE, AUSTRALIAN ABORIGINES arnt local to Australia and they haven't been in Australia for 60.000 years neither.
My nice was talking to a full blood aborigine and he asked her was she aborigine she said no my family's from some place in Asia the aborigine man said that same difference as all aborigine come to Oz from Asia.
Those paintings were done by the ppl that were here that the modern day aborigine killed off when they invaded oz from Asia.
Were I live there's a grave full of meandathols the painters of that art.
They all had aborigine spears in there heads.
one of the Neanderthals was taken and put in a museumand a group of half white aborigine when there and demanded they give them the remains to witch they took them to a mine shift in castel main vic and thru them down the mine shift.
It's like the stolen genorashion they took those kids from them because the whites were matting with the blacks and the baby's were coming out brindle so they were hitting them on the head so white man took them if they haven't of they wouldn't have good jobs and they would be all dead I got that from a full aborigine man.
You see the true blacks don't go on with a heap of lies and bs the blacks that have white blood in them get that many benefits for being part aborigine that they don't tell you the full truth as they want to keep there place in Oz were they think they are Oz native but they are not like I said the dead meandathols buryed in Oz were here way before the modern aborigine.
Aborigine paintings are the crap ones those others come from the actual really Australian natives the Neanderthals there's quite a few here.
I subbed a week ago I thought I'd answer the big mistery for you kind regards hope you read this.

It's funny that in 40 odd years the Bradshaw works have gone from being "those other mob" to "ours". At least there were a couple of honest old fellas back then.

Do you guys have a place where you share your itineraries? I understand if you are trying to protect the region from over tourism. I'm an American but I've worked in the Kimberley, North of Kununurra on a cattle property. I made it there via the Gibb and having been day dreaming about a return to the region. Traveling by coast and small craft seems to be the ultimate. I know there are plenty of outfitters to hire but self-guiding is always the best. Cheers!

How do you know which areas/ waters are safe for swimming with Croc's and such? I understand the logic in the smaller pools but what about more open water, the bigger channels? Are they saltines or freshies up there? Love your channel and your hat haha. Hello from Canada

Those paintings always had Les Hiddins scratching his head . The elders told him they were rubbish and not of their people , the paintings were there already and always near the boabs. A true unsolved mystery with some mind boggling time lines. Loved it guys.

Not such a mystery, when native title came about the locals had a reason to own up about their paintings. You can learn all about them in the book Gwion Gwion. A beautiful coffee table book in French German and English.

In Southern Africa the natives believe that the gods up rooted the trees and planted them upside down as well. It is considered the tree of life, the leaves are edible, rope is made from the fibre, water is stored in massive hollows, the fruit is edible when dry, if you add water to the dry fruit it makes a type of milkshake that's very healthy for you and quenches your thirst. The seeds can be roasted and eaten or made into a coffee. Our local bushmen(first people to live here before any other tribes) always chose a north facing cave, warmer in winter. Fascinating how its almost similar. Love your videos, is Fran from Italy or Spain. Cheers from South Africa.

Sadly due to people leaving there traditional lives inland it caused a vaccum for others to follow, they had to, all tribes were 100% relied upon eachother
