The Concert for George was held at the Royal Albert Hall in London on 29 November 2002 as a memorial to George Harrison on the first anniversary of his death. The event was organised by Harrison's widow, Olivia, and his son, Dhani, and arranged under the musical direction of Eric Clapton. The remainder of the concert featured "George's Band" and included the surviving members of the Beatles (Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr), Harrison's son Dhani Harrison, as well as musicians Eric Clapton, Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Billy Preston, Jools Holland, Albert Lee, Sam Brown, Gary Brooker, Joe Brown, Ray Cooper, Andy Fairweather-Low, Marc Mann, Dave Bronze, Klaus Voormann, Jim Keltner and several other musicians who had appeared on Harrison's recordings over the years. Peace out.

Eric Clapton was one of George’s best friends going back decades. Even taking up with each other’s ex wife at a point in the early 70’s/ late Sixties.
This is my second favourite Beatles tune. But the Ultimate version is from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Dhani, Tom Petty, Clapton and Prince. Prince magically shreds his guitar, in way that you believe that the guitar is actually weeping. It’s legendary. Prince gained so much respect for that performance alone.

@@bartjopling4886 I agree! He was pissed off with Rolling Stone Magazine. This was for the induction of George Harrison into the Rock Hall as a SOLO artist and this was supposed to be saluting him, not a time for Prince to "show off" I MUCH prefer this "Concert for George" performance because EVERY musician on that stage had either worked with George, (Paul and Ringo, and Eric, plus others up there) and/or were also very close friends with George. PLUS Eric Clapton was the one who actually PLAYED the guitar solo on the Beatles White Album recording of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" so he SHOULD be the one here performing it at the memorial concert for George.

This song was written and arranged by George Harrison. It's on the Beatles' double "White Album" (1968) where George sings lead, but the lead guitar riff is (according to most accounts) played by Eric Clapton as a guest artist.
So on this tribute concert 30 years later, you have Paul McCartney on keys, multiple drummers including Ringo Starr, tons of guitarists, and Clapton singing lead and also doing the break riffs. The first riff pretty much re-creates what he did on the original recording.
They must have played it a second time, that same night. Because there's another, more common vid of this song from this concert, most of the same lineup but with Prince onstage and playing the final riff.
Eric Clapton is an elite guitarist, going all the way back to the Sixties. The Yardbirds, Cream, Blind Faith, Derek and the Dominoes, and solo work.

Unless these young artist of today, learn how to master their craft, you will never hear music like this again. @@stevendoran877 I know. The other version is also a tribute to George Harrison and also includes his son. They’re both great performances. Prince probably was slighted because he didn’t play by the industry’s rules. He certainly was talented enough to show off his skills and he should’ve been on the list. That performance is proof.
I love all of the performers in each tribute. No need for anyone to get panties wadded. We’re all here because we love the music. I believe that’s part of the reason for the weeping guitar to begin with.
I’m not saying you got your panties wadded. It just seems like people easily get that way over their favorite performers.

I love your comments on this and that you're joking about Dr. Fingers, McCartney, not mentioning Ringo when he's on camera for about a minute total time, let alone Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne and so many others on this. You know these guys, all of them major musicians, probably 40 or 50 bands among them. Those commenters suggesting you react to the R&R Hall of Fame version that has many of them same crew plus Prince is a great idea, Prince was really able to show his talent playing with these guys, they all feed off each other with incredible performances.

it was NOT the "same crew" as here, no Clapton, no Paul, no Ringo, hardly anyone here who were all friends and fellow band mates of George. Prince was there to show off, going overboard to put all the attention on him, instead of George. It was disrespectful It was NOTHING like what George intended.....Clapton's version was as GEORGE ASKED him to play the guitar solo ON the BEATLES recording of it.

There’s so many good performances from this concert! You can’t go wrong with ANYTHING Clapton. But you do have to see Prince shred the solo to this song too!

this seemed to me to be one occasion when coming into a video cold wasn't helpful - for you. You did see Paul McCartney, but - I believe - you missed that the song was written by George Harrison of the Beatles; Ringo Starr of the Beatles was one of the drummers, the young man on acoustic guitar was Dhani Harrison and Eric Clapton, a great guitarist made his guitar sing in tribute to George Harrison - the historic occasion of a tribute to George may have been lost on you. there were, as the comment before me highlights, many other great artists there as well.

So many people asking you to check out the Prince version of this. His was done at George Harrison’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction. Prince’s version is fantastic BUT in a way it kind of annoys me, because he took the focus off of George’s great song and George’s ceremony (not that George would probably have cared) and made it all about himself. The focus should have been on George NOT on Prince but most of the comments always mention Prince & not George. Seems unfair IMO.
