Why lance? An answer for anyone playing more recent gens, so they're not tainted by old-gen slander: The common, almost overdone fantasy in games is to be untouchable. Lance instead fulfills the desire to become unbreakable. In From Software terms, it's the Giant Dad that walks all over Let Me Solo Her. It's the constant cycle of returning to village with more buff items than you even packed for the hunt. It's being the last man standing when the team gets wiped.
It's the meme of using the charge attack instead of running like a normal person, using the jump to mount anywhere. And in the current gen, its toolkit elevates it to speedrun viability. Just think, the counter-based gameplay is so based that they felt compelled to give every weapon the reactive abilities that lance had FIRST. Sure, other weapons are tasy, but they're hiding the fact that they follow another man's recipe. It's a leader, a trailblazer, and an anchor in times of chaos. Pointy Stick goes back to the very dawn of our species. It is the strategy we were built for. It is the morally superior, ancestrally honorable killing method, in a way only hammer comes close to.

I just wanna say that the Adept dodge roll as saved me so many times when I would've fainted lol. I love this style so much along with the parries, it's so satisfying (also I hate Energy Blade, Ripper Shield better imo)
The greater option simply went in more games
I combo ripper shield and energy blade to avoid Utra AED
Monster Hunter and Berserk were the two main inspirations for Dark Souls

I assume ripper shield was repurposed as Savage Axe mode/Condensed Spinning Slash in World and Rise respectively right?

@@givemeyourgarbage7980 Each heat level, from yellow to red, adds a damage buff to the mele attacks.
The idea is to use shots to build up heat to color red, use wyvern's fire to lock the gauge, and then go full mele to maximize damage ;)
@@paramedic2172 in base generations it actually gave you a damage PENALTY from its old default motion values if you attacked outside of red gauge
energy blade is deadass easier to land if you're facing away from the monster, since the hitbox starts behind you

Adept alone is good enough, now imagine when you activate SP mode which increases the activation window. haha I recently started playing with LBG Adept and I've already realized how fun and efficient it is. Thanks for the upload man!
I've mained the Charge Blade since it was first introduced and I'll never get bored of it, GU being one of my favorites all because of the hunter arts and the sheer style points.

Only congalala brain hunters think lance got only one move i.e. poke but instead there are a lot :- poke, lance charge, charge=>vault, charge=>back swipe , swipe, counter and guard advance
The strongest weapon style combo is not valor weeb stick but striker lance. A lance main can stay in the face of monster without caring about its attacks and we use far less resources and never faint whereas i have seen you faint to basic monster moves even with your main
.... i can solo slay an ahtal ka in 10min with my lance without even using a potion
GL in gu/xx has some of the worst moster kill time it took you 15 minutes to kill a rathlos with your cb/gl, lance can do it lot faster and it's also great at dealing elemental damage but i guess your bulfango brain can't get it.....

adept gs will always be my favourite thing in MHGU
I used to be one of those players who scoffed at the idea of maining or trying Lance. It was like that for a long time cuz I just couldn't get use to having no forward dodge but then World came around & changed all that.
While it looks pretty boring to watch, when ur using it urself, it actually feels very rewarding to play. The clutch claw shield counter is just the best move the Lance has ever gotten. Too bad a similar move wasn't made in rise...

@@xavierculby I'll admit I dropped lance pretty early on in Rise as I didn't feel too impressed with what I saw. So I'm a bit ignorant about the tools added for lance in rise.

The reason you lance, is because every other weapon walks around the monster waiting for openings to punish, but the lance meets every opponent on their own terms and says "Let's dance". Playing lance into slow moving monsters is boring, but playing lance into an agitated fanged wyvern and matching it step for step, beat for beat, blow for blow makes you say "theres only one monster in this arena and it isn't you."
Nah i hate it cuz its a really safe weapon with the best block in game and could precisely hit any part of a monster with ease, Movesets look simplistic revolving around Poke>backstep>repeat, its the only weapon i rarely dies with making it a really boring one for me to edit.

Actually Monster hunter was the first hunting style game I came across. So when I saw dark souls and bloodbourne I always said " it's alot like monster hunter "

Energy blade is horizontal because it was probably intended to be used directly behind the monster rather than sideways, which would make sense, tho it still sucks using it against mons who have the tail on the ground

I used CB on a new character after completing Iceborne with pure weeb stick only, and the guard point mechanic I just find it absolutely difficult. Seeing these clips nearly made me cream 😂
As for GL and Lance I couldn't use it to kill tougher mons, might need to watch more how-to-use videos about it because I just suck
the bow has a technique that is meant to cut tails too, it cuts horizontally for no damn reason

As a lance enjoyer. Yes, i do wonder why i like it so much. But now that i think about it. Is it powerful? Not really, it is average at best. Is it fast? Oh god no it is one of the most clunky weapon in the game. Is it fun though? Absolutely, just imagine instead of running away whenever the monster attack, you just there tanking it and giving back to their face. Imagine a little puny human with a little funny pointy stick with big shield just stay beside the monster poking it to dead.
Lance may not be the most efficient weapon out there. But it is a fun weapon to play for me
