Other dude was completely oblivious that other people were on the track, but also that was a really bad place to try and pass someone. These are mistakes we learn from tho.
There's a certain bit of pride that most of us won't admit exists when you first start riding (not just racing) where you think "I don't need that much protection". Once you have a decent spill, you stop caring about that, and you learn it's far better to pad up and be able to ride again versus watching the nice weather pass you by while you're stuck on the couch recovering. Also I didn't see your spill at esk8con, but I do remember seeing you somewhat out of it under the MBoards tent. Glad you're ok.
Couldn’t agree more, it’s just important over all and when I first started I would just rock a hat and send it 🤣 now I’ll always wear my helmet no matter elwhat
Helmet & wrist guards are always on me. Even feel naked without them… Not worth it being “cool” on our boards when we hurt ourselves or worse no longer able to ride anymore. Glad you’re ok, and fully recovered 🤙🏽
Heavy duty man. Happy you’re alright for the most part and it won’t be a life changing crash. Hip protection is such a slept on piece of gear in our sport. Either the crash shorts or padded pants are a must for me, every ride. I went down fairly hard and it was caught on slomo. You could see most of the impact going straight into my hip. My shorts made it a mellow crash with some light bruising and I was able to finish the race. Without them I would have been done for weeks I’m sure. Happy you made this as a reminder to people. I’d like to see esk8con raise the bar for required gear personally. A spine protector on track imo should be required.
I know that feeling very well, during our Thursday afternoon group ride in Redrock loop I was rear ended by someone not paying attention to who's in front... We both went down pretty hard, today may 11th my shoulder, hip and elbow still hurts... Let's esk8 safe and glad you're doing well. ❤
Can’t emphasize how important safety gear is. I took a huge hit in a race and it left me with a shattered arm and a years worth of healing. Luckily I was wearing full protective gear so it could’ve been way worse, but I’m glad it didn’t. Glad you’re okay tho, stay safe man!
Daaaamn bro. That was right at the fastest part of the track too. The bruises😳😳. Glad ur good myman. I can’t believe I ever rode w/out gear🤦. Anyone watchin this plz take riding gear seriously. It’s not a matter of if u go down……….. 🙏🙏for the video😎😎
Holy shit! That’s rough Drew! Those bruises look wild! I’m really glad the protective gear you had on saved you, and you weren’t badly hurt. I hope you’re back to rights now bro!
Mate that was some good colour you got there . My helmet has saved me on more than one occasion, I never ride without . You cannot warn people enough, but at the end of the day it is up to each person.
I remember my accident on my electric scooter. Bombed a hill going 30. Hot summer day, front tire popped. Tossed me and only came out with a scrap on my knee and fractured arm. Adrenaline is a hell of a drug cuz i still came to work. And i didnt feel any pain until that following night. And my god, that night was dreadful.
Dam bro those bruises remind me of when i picked up corporal in the Marine Corps and earned my blood stripes not pleasant at all but a tradition thats now considered hazing be safe out there man love your videos
First off, Thank you for your service! Yeah this wasn’t a fun situation to happen it it happened. Just want to make sure people understand that wearing gear does save lives! Appreciate you checking out the channel and supporting me!
I have double vision when i look down to the right(6 months) already. Didnt have my helmet and was on a flat trail not even doing anything but fell.hit the back of my head blacked out 5minutes concussion & hospital, MRI's ct scans, eye doctors not cool at all. Still ride.dont remember how i crashed, luckily was with a friend
dang man i saw the clips of the crash but man that was brutal! glad you were ultimately alright i gotta get me some beyond riders gear! too many times people i swear i know saw me suddenly turn infront of me! I keep way further back now!
yeah, riding with your head on a swivel is 100% needed this day and age, people are to distracted on the road, and we are to new of a sport for them to expect us coming 25-30 mph they will cut you off with out thinking twice.
*Scary* 😪 Ouch, that looks hella painful 😱 Glad it wasn't more serious, really could have been a whole lot worse, especially if you didn't have a helmet+other gear. Great video, safety is so important, and many neglect it. Stay safe people! 🤙🏽⚡️🤟🏽⚡️🤙🏽
Oh man Drew! That's was a big wipeout and the bruising all over your body shows what you are going through. Esk8 racing is a game! It's quite intimidating when you have different levels of riders on the race track at the same time. Hope u have a speedy recovery and fully gear up for esk8con 2025! 🤙🛹🔥
Racing etiquette should briefly be explained before any esk8 race. A lot of different skill level riders on the same track at the same time is a recipe for a collision. Another thing I noticed is racing against a goofy foot rider vs regular footed. It feels a lot safer passing someone when they don’t have their back towards you and can see your trying to pass, and have time to react just in case things get really close.
Yeah, this was during open track and I wasn’t pushing it hard at all and the racer tried to pass on my outside into the turn and hit me from behind. But you’re right if I was goofy I could have seen him coming vs the last minute screaming with full face helmets on at full speed.
I've eaten shit a couple of times, they made me that much more conscious about wearing safety gear. Helmet, gloves, elbow, knee, and hip pads, but I know I should switch to a full face helmet and pickup some Kevlar gear... The problem is it gets so hot during the summer, but I guess that's more comfortable than missing skin!
@@esk8Kyle had all my gear on just landed right on my leg got 200 miles on my Atom without any accidents but now I won't be able to walk for 10 weeks so be careful everyone
Yeah my worst wipeout cause multiple fractures in right ankle and it's was the early days of esk8 when I thought I was invincible... We have to educate all riders the importance of wearing protective gear for this growing esk8 community. Just out of curiosity, can u get around with a walker? Or do u need a wheelchair for the next few weeks?
Good God, that looking bad 😯😨😨😨😨 Happy that You OK, ❤ Personaly I like to run without gears, but after this video I need to rethink myself. Bless You mate 👍🏻
Knowing how to fall doesn't apply in this situation, the board was literally knocked out beneath his feet, there's zero time to react in some situations
What a bad fall, I to am a big fan of armored protection and are diligent in wearing it even when others make jokes about it. Heal quickly the bruises seem bad.
Great video. The reality of what can happen is a solid reminder to wear gear. It can all come undone in a second, no fault of anyone’s. It can just happen. Thanks for sharing and glad you are ok now. 💯❤️🛹
Bro kidd you not just took a 35mph slam about 45 minutes ago, I have that exact tsg helmet & it completely saved my face even with the visor up the second I slid on the ground it closed protecting my face while sliding 15 feet, had knee & palm pads to slide as well Ps. This also happened in Vegas lol, I’m okay just got a little to confident on the endeavor pro 🤙🏻
I've been Downhill mountain biking for over 20 years and more recently eskate with a focus on onewheels. I early on I wore full body armor, neck brace, knee/shin protection and FF helmet. Many riders who were better than me claimed wearing armor made them crash more and I found this to be true. I switched to just helmet and gloves and found that I crashed way less. Experienced crashers do not hit the ground like a rag doll, they are skilled at crashing and for those riders minimal protection may actually result in less crashes to begin with. Also board sports are extremely crash friendly .. its much easier to bail from a board than a bike or an EUC.
@@madrx2 That is what I used to think when riders told me why they wore minimal armor.. Eventually I tried it myself and found that actually they were right. Its definitely counter intuitive. The pro's in freestyle mtb/bmx, dh racing, dh long boarding basically anything less than motorbikes generally do not wear a lot of armor. Even after serious injuries most of these extreme sports pros choose to wear just helmet and gloves.
Tony hawk wears elbow knee pads and helmet. Accidents happen you can’t plan a crash. This crash could have been avoided because it was open track and wasn’t even during the race event. There were a lot of skill levels on open track from complete newbies to pro racers. I wasn’t pushing hard and wasn’t expecting to have someone trying to pass on my outside line in a non race . But accidents happen and I probably would have died smashing my head on the ground if I wasn’t wearing my full face and my jacket. Wish I had more protection. Lesson learned.
@@DrewElia For every pro skater that wears protection there are 10 that don’t. I think armour is a good idea for group rides and situations like your crash with too many riders on a track. I’m not telling people not to wear armour. I’m just relating my own experience having tried both that I prefer less armour and I believe I avoid a lot of crashes by not wearing armour.
When do reviews I typically ride well within my comfort and ability, the race track though has a lot of people with different skill levels all over the place. The crash happened during open track when anyone could go out and ride. Some people took it as an opportunity to try to race others were testing out the vendors boards but it was a lot of different levels out there. So I’ll be getting a new full face but will reserve it for certain times when I’m trying to push myself.
