I personally find the aesthetic very comforting (along with weirdcore). I remember riding the bus home from school and accidentally clicking on a playlist of dreamcore. After I listened to it for a while, a wave of nostalgia washed over me. It made me feel soothed and in peace. As I've gotten older I've been appreciating it much more because it brings me back to the good old days where I used to walk to daycare with my mom in the early morning or swim at a water park. It also makes me sad because I will never have those key moments in my life again.
I don't think I caught you use the phrase, but the defining characteristic to dreamcore, to me, would be dream logic. The best example was the kitchen outside, or the bedroom being too high/in the sky. It's the stuff the holds together in the dream, but any scrutiny and it falls apart completely. For example, why would my friend have a slide going from the upstairs down to the living room? As a kid I had horrendous nightmares, and as a result I'm a pretty lucid dreamer. My brain hunts out the cracks in dream logic and grabs them to identify dreams and pull me out.
I also used to have night terrors so often that I developed the ability to lucid dream! Only problem is once I figure out I’m dreaming I still can’t take control and I also can’t wake up. I’m just trapped in a literal nightmare. I don’t know why I’m sharing this with a stranger 😂. I just don’t have anyone else who knows what this is like.
@@Mayberry_KateI know this is 4 months later but i wanted to join in the conversation. I had horrible dreams as well when i was a kid, and developed lucid dreaming because of it just like you two. However, instead of escaping the dream or staying trapped in it, weirdly, i always chose to fight the nightmate instead. There was always a central entity or event that was the cause of the nightmare being scary. My judgement of it being a meaningless dream would be numbed, i would instead fight it back like if it was important. Anyway, it's cool to see three different manifestations of the same thing happening.
I've biked when it's starting to get stormy out, but it does have a weird but cool vibe to it. That video reminds me of bicycling by a certain field in Michigan and the sun would be peeking out behind some thick clouds before sunset, and so every leaf and blade of grass was lit on one side and dark on the other.
Yay, I just had surgery done yesterday and haven't been as happy since then. Especially with the pain. But seeing you posting a new video within 8 minutes of me landing on TH-cam. I miss the dream videos. You made me even happier, Greg. Thanks, friend!💜💜💜
@vinnrat Thank you. It's nowhere close to fun. Especially when they have to inject you and go straight through. But I am actually recovering pretty quickly. 😊
Dreamcore things are usually places like ones we've seen we associate with our childhoods. It's called anemoia, nostalgia for a time or place we've never known.
Wait…this is just liminal spaces set to eerie or melancholy music. To me, there is nothing really dreamy about it. IMO, dreamy or dream-like is looking at a faceless person whilst still knowing exactly who they are, or looking at text on a sign and though I may know what it says, it just appears to be a hodgepodge of random letters. Often in my dreams I’ll be looking at a cake (or something…could be anything) but I’ll be thinking to myself, “What a lovely picture frame!” In fact, I may even say so out loud and nobody will think it’s odd or believe me to be strange because everybody else thinks it’s a picture frame too!
I think what makes it dreamy is that you see places you’ve been to in the past in your dreams, and these pictures are of common looking places that remind you of somewhere you may have been. I think I’m slightly too young to feel fully nostalgic seeing these places so it’s not really dreamy to me either, but I can see how it is to people who grew up in those places.
Liminal spaces are very dreamlike in mist cases. Endless hallways, syrange doorways, ect. I've had one really memorable dream where I was running through a hallway that's red and black eith double doors at the end. This hallway would go on forever and repeat until I got out finally and went through a portal back to my universe
I find it funny that so many of these are just a 90's birthday party ghost town. Nostalgia for something many haven't even experienced. I get it, you didn't have a childhood if you didn't have a Chuck E. Cheese birthday party, pre-CG rat.
this video showed up just before I went to sleep. dream core definitely will add something scary to my dream today 😅 love your content! thanks. just wanted to support my favourite channel once again.
I found your channel not too long ago and love it because not going only do you react to things im interested but your reactions are genuine your not going "WOOOW THATS TERRIFYING AND CRAZY 😱😱😱😱!!!" for everything you actually give some insight and say if you don't find something very interesting .
I believe the unsettling part about these liminal spaces is that they touch on memories of familiar places most people have been, places that are made to be seen socially with other people at all times, so when these places are put in front of you with a sense of you being all alone in a place your brain never associated with being alone in at all, it really dials up the primal dread humans as social creatures have for being alone, being all on your own is a death sentence, and every fiber of our being knows this. Just my theory anyway.
This video was uploaded at the perfect time. I was bored out of my mind. Now I've got something to look forward to for the next 12.5 minutes! Thanks Greg!
Almost all of these pictures suck as dreamcore content, they barely even capture the essence of dreamcore. But then again, as usual, I didn't expect anything from tik tok.
For me these dreamcore and liminal space pictures are pretty eerie but they never give me a nostalgic feeling because I’m a southeast Asian so I’ve never been to places or grew up in houses that looked like these… this trend just seems pretty Westerncore to me😭
I doubt you're a psychopath, if you were they'd probably make you feel angry (jk, I don't know). They didn't make me feel much either except I like the bike in the field, because I like bicycling and nature. I like the concept of dreamcore and would want to try making my own video, I think dreams are fascinating.
I adore dreamcore, especially those other aesthetics commonly tied to it - like weirdcore, traumacore, etc... They just make me feel comforted. (To be honest many of these images don't bleed 'dreamcore' to me, but people have different types of dreams) Lots of examples of dreamcore on TH-cam, actually, with playlists to go along with the photos, if anyone is interested. Such a good way to unwind.
So what got me about the bicycle storm cloud one is the fact that when I was a teen I used to listen to these old TH-cam videos of "adult bedtime stories" where this lady with a really calming voice would walk you through different dreamscape scenarios. The videos were hours long and took you on a whole journey, she was very descriptive. The bike image for me conjured up memories very similar to how I pictured the beginning of one of these stories I would fall asleep to. There was no bike, but I was walking along a curved path like that with a field to my left and trees to my right. The thing about these stories is, although they were relaxing and fascinating and did ultimately help me fall asleep, certain scenarios whe would describe would sometimes feel creepy or eerie to me. A lot of it had to do with the fact that you are often all alone in these dreams. But even the one I remember with people in it was slightly unsettling, as nobody was acting quite right. If anyone here knows what I'm talking about, I can't remember the ladies name and I've been trying to find her again to see if she has anything new, it's been a long time.
Another entertaining video! The part I really thought worked well with the subject material was when you would focus in on the rather normal points of the imagery. Everything's normal, right? Yeah. And then the reveal of the full image with the elements that send thoughts and emotions into confusion. I think that style of presentation really worked well in this video. Every time I was left wondering, "okay, what's the dream element going to be?" as I'm looking at the normal elements of the setting.
I feel like I’m the only one who doesn’t really experience fear from images like these. I just feel at peace. This type of art has become one of my favorites, it makes me feel like nothing else I’ve ever seen in a visual medium.
It's the utter loneliness of each video. No one around, not even a shadow, just a feeling of loneliness in environment which should be filled with people.
I know that weed is supposed to be dulling the extent of my dreams but every time I smoke weed I get very lucid and in depth dreams that are far more abstract than usual
For me, dreamcore is nothing but comfort. It takes me back to childhood years that never happened. I remember it vividly. These places I’ve never gone are unforgettable. Experiences I’ve never had beckon for me to return. I want to follow. But I am sad. Because I know I can’t.
Just discovered your videos, but your videos help cure the fears I didn’t know I have in a way that is comfortable and I appreciate you being there for me
I watch your videos in a mix to fall asleep (i watch them fr when I’m awake I swear). Anyways, you and the ideas in your videos have popped into my dreams so many times. It happened last night and seeing this video is trippy lmao.
as someone who grew up with trauma and neglect, dreamcore makes me yearn to replace my memories with all the silly images and videos relating to this aesthetic. It makes me both sad and nostalgic.
Many people claim dreamcore makes them scared or disturbed, even happy for some people, I guess happy that they feel so much nostalgia but for me dreamcore transports me to one of the saddest states I’ve ever felt, almost depressed but it is also one of the most addicting emotions for me
There's a lot of overlap between internet aesthetics, at least in terms of vibes. Weirdcore and Dreamcore in particular are like two sides of the same coin and I sometimes use them interchangeably. Liminal spaces also sometimes feel otherworldly and dreamlike so it's not hard to see why they're used here a lot.
I feel the thing about dreamcore is how uncanny it is, because dreams often are. You have most of an idea, most of a concept, but you can't remember it perfectly, so it's a little off and a little fuzzy. And sometimes it's not a problem, but sometimes it is.
4:25 the dish soap omg So, you'd think that would be obvious at least past a certain age, right? Well, I used to be Mormon/LDS. When I was, I went on a mission. I was 19 at the time. One of my companions (randomly assigned to each other) one day was like, hey, we have a dishwasher, why don't we use it? (We'd been doing dishes by hand because there weren't enough total dishes in the apartment to warrant waiting for a full dishwasher load). Seeing as there was no soap to use in the dishwasher, he very confidently put in some regular ol liquid soap (Dawn or something) and was like, yeah it's dish soap? Duh? I had been trying to convince him it really wasn't gonna work, but off he went and started it up. Like 30 seconds passed before the whole kitchen was filled with suds. He was 25
2:00 once I fell asleep in the car on vacation and my entire dream was just pitch blackness and then there was a faint light shining down on the ground so I leaned in to look, and a creature like the worm thing in the trash compactor scene of Star Wars, just suddenly lunged at my face from the darkness, and I woke up with a start and my brothers laughed at me. I was like wtf was the point of all that, jeez.
Very creative way to end the video...like a dream. Dream core has a very 90s saved by thr bell nostalgic vibe..at least a lot of the pics in today's video.
Most of these do kind of just feel like Liminal Space, but in turn liminal seems to always cause dreamlike images by default, it's just its nature. My first experience with liminal space was as a kid whenever we would go to a function or event at night time. When my parents were driving us back home, we'd pass all the businesses closed for the night with their lights off, dark alleys and parking lots, and it always gave me a strange feeling. Now I know it was because they're liminal spaces and seeing them empty was unsettling. And then after seeing liminal space as kids we often dream of liminal spaces because it's a weird setting, and those two experiences kind of become interchangeable.
you know it gives a backrooms vibe where its real but not kind of cool would be awesome if someone made this into a game where you just walk around no monsters but you get to walk around these places an to give the feel of somethings wrong when your ok
Tbh it really just reminds me of my dreams and dream logic. I could be in my home and it the dream I know I live there and it's normal, but when I wake up I realise everything was completely different to reality. i had a dream where I was in a shopping centre that was literally in the middle of a grass field and had a bunker. I walked on streets that look a little bit like places I've been but are completely different and distorted at the same time. Dream logic, it fascinates me. In a dream things feel normal but when you wake up you realise it's all nonsense.
Despite doing all the things every night, I can never remember my dreams unless it’s realistic like driving to work. So I love these, dreamless nights feel awful in the morning.
@11:13 Maybe this stuff is scary because we do form out deepest roots of fear during these ages, like for our first time for real. Scary nostalgia is a little childhood trauma right lol I learned to be scared when I was a kid, around all these "images" I see in your videos. I didn't mean too, it just happened.
5:40 me, an early teen, with two computers of my very own in 1999, culminating in 4 computers in the house because I was the only kid in there. I guess I was SUPER cool.
Those dreams are way too modern for me. I dream of playing outside. I dream of ordinary dogs biting me. I dream of missing my bus to school. My dreams are not CGI
4:20 also the wall-door on the left lol, is it a door? Is it a wall? It has hinges but no knob, there's a door frame so it makes you think door, but it stretches seamlessly to the other open doorway like a wall. Also the way both doorways are open to brightly lit areas, but the room between both doors is cast in shadow as if light doesn't bounce around to fill a space.
unfortunately i was never allowed to invite anyone to my birthday.. so.. it was quite lonely.. i take major comfort in liminal space and dreamcore because i was heavily isolated as a kid.
bro i swear to god something super weird just happened to me. I got deja vu watching this video when you were talking about the computers in the basement, and i thought i had made a tweet about it saying something like "haha melee am i right?" but i dont think i even follow you on twitter....
I had a dream once where both I, and a bunch of family friends were in our living room, but it was outside in a big field of tall weet like grass that was flooded. And most of us were like 5 years old or so, and we were just watching old sonic cartoons on a big flat screen TV.
This aesthetic captures how my dreams put nonsense things together. And the part that is even stranger is that during the dream I accept it as normal. Then I wake asking myself wtf 😂
funny how you said you make these videos for "me" to watch them in my sleep. Last night I ended up sleeping while watching one of your videos and when I waked up there was 5 more of your videos in my watch history
This video is in a playlist i made to help me sleep and I'm always glad when it's the first to play so i know i won't wake up to that intro in the middle of the night 😂
One time i was going through a crazy migraine. and i fell asleep on my floor. My dream/nightmare consisted of everything folding in on itself. It felt like a crazy trip and i woke up in a panicked sweat. a couple hours later i took another nap and everything in the "trip" like dream started to disconnect. everything had a gap in between everything. it was one of the craziest dreams i have ever experienced
I had a dream the other night that I was on a space station outside Saturn, just like in Interstellar but it was owned by Norway. So it was like I was living in Norway but it was in space. Dreams are weird, man.
Can't wait to go outside and play with my cloud water.

I feel the thing about dreamcore is how uncanny it is, because dreams often are. You have most of an idea, most of a concept, but you can't remember it perfectly, so it's a little off and a little fuzzy. And sometimes it's not a problem, but sometimes it is.
2:20 reminds me a little bit of Paperhouse, the film.....
Dreamcore to me is very... calming. Comforting in a way I cant quite describe.
The wake up one in the beginning made me feel coldness across my whole body even though I wasn't really scared
4:25 the dish soap omg
So, you'd think that would be obvious at least past a certain age, right?
OMG the ball pit one / weird 90s children lay area ones ! Talk about an eerie sense of deja vu😮I've literally HAD this dream before 😂
Very creative way to end the video...like a dream.
I like the surreality of these clips. They feel interesting.
Dude !! My friend was 3 brothers they had a computer room in the basement !!!! Wth did we grow up together !!
I'm not Greg, but yes.
I love that you put music from Omori in your video
All those pictures are just liminal space
5:40 me, an early teen, with two computers of my very own in 1999, culminating in 4 computers in the house because I was the only kid in there.
I guess I was SUPER cool.
Omg I love dreamcore. Thank you so much for this video Greg. 🙏
I think what makes it so unsettling is the fact that a lot of the more normal pictures look like they're from David Lynch.
Why did they say "wake up"
It's my nostalgic past.. Why would I want to wake up into my current reality?
Also not crying when Mufusa died is wild.
Those dreams are way too modern for me. I dream of playing outside. I dream of ordinary dogs biting me. I dream of missing my bus to school. My dreams are not CGI
I agree lol
4:20 also the wall-door on the left lol, is it a door? Is it a wall? It has hinges but no knob, there's a door frame so it makes you think door, but it stretches seamlessly to the other open doorway like a wall. Also the way both doorways are open to brightly lit areas, but the room between both doors is cast in shadow as if light doesn't bounce around to fill a space.
Yes, the concept of people is a product of my imagination
The Omori ost adds so much to it highly recommend for anyone who hasnt played it, its probably the game that literally exudes the entire aesthetic
unfortunately i was never allowed to invite anyone to my birthday.. so.. it was quite lonely.. i take major comfort in liminal space and dreamcore because i was heavily isolated as a kid.
Dream core is one of my favorites! Would love to see you react to some solar punk stuff too
bro i swear to god something super weird just happened to me.
I got deja vu watching this video when you were talking about the computers in the basement, and i thought i had made a tweet about it saying something like "haha melee am i right?" but i dont think i even follow you on twitter....
I love how you always have a field day picking apart these images and videos lol.
Aw sweet, just the video I needed after waking up from some wild dreams
Parents: stop gaming already, and get some fresh air!!
Kid: alright, you've convinced me!
Kid outside:
I had a dream once where both I, and a bunch of family friends were in our living room, but it was outside in a big field of tall weet like grass that was flooded. And most of us were like 5 years old or so, and we were just watching old sonic cartoons on a big flat screen TV.
This aesthetic captures how my dreams put nonsense things together. And the part that is even stranger is that during the dream I accept it as normal. Then I wake asking myself wtf 😂
That last 3 seconds had me shook I looked away at the perfect time
funny how you said you make these videos for "me" to watch them in my sleep. Last night I ended up sleeping while watching one of your videos and when I waked up there was 5 more of your videos in my watch history
I love dreamcore,definitely creepy fr
This video is in a playlist i made to help me sleep and I'm always glad when it's the first to play so i know i won't wake up to that intro in the middle of the night 😂
"Do you know how SICK it was to have 3 computers in the year 1999?"
I do. It was hella sick.
Nice. This legit reminded me of at least one dream i had a million yrs ago
@ 1:49,
Our BroDudeMan, Greg, has seemed to have lost the ability to read.
