Thanks Phil Currie that brought back a few memories, I served at Lartin 91/99 some of that time when Phil was in the gym. I moved onto Whitemoor then Frankland and Phil’s name was always spoken of with the greatest of respect from prisoners and staff alike.

Mr Currie has a great way of telling stories, can't imagine what you two gentleman spoke about off camera! Absolutely blinding chat. Goes to show not all prison officers are on an ego trip, and nice to know at least one had the backs of the prisoners! That Governor sounds like a right hampton. I was conditioned in different to view prison officers in a negative light but having experienced confinement, growing older, and realising all individuals are essentially different on the whole I have now been holding these officers in the greatest esteem Such a difficult but essential job like many occupation s they without doubt deserve greater rewards

Has to be said there were (are) some decent screws. Never liked any of them in Durham but N'land had some decent ones. By decent I mean if you were fair theyd be fair and decent natured in return, normally it would be the ones who'd served their time and knew what was what, however, the new ones always tried to make a name for themselves which never works. Fair play to you Yammy for highlighting this point with Phil Currie.

Can’t believe Phil Currie has passed away, it must of been very shortly after this interview? Very sad because he was one of those decent screws, proper old school and realised prisoners and officers are human after all.

Initially I had reservations about listening to an ex-screw.... but i soon changed my mind!!
What an interesting insight into both sides of HMP.
It sorta reminds me (in style) of one of those 'post Falklands war' interviews you used too see on tv between say English & Argentinian fighter pilots, still all human beings at the end of the day.

Not all screws are hated. There are many who if you don't make their life a misery will turn a blind eye to whatever little things you get up to that stop your own life being miserable. Gym screws are often quite decent guys, if they were all like that everyone would have an easier life

There is genuinely some good screw's in the system but there is some bad ones who are on a power trip.
If you are a person who just wants to do your jail and get home they are ok with you.
I landed in kirkham on my last sentence which is a cat d prison and the first thing I noticed was the screw's were all old school who are ready for retirement but they were proper dogs who were always on your case for petty shit. Was a few decent ones in risley who would try and help you out if you put a app in for something.
I passed through long lartin in 2005 , couldn't believe the change from 92 , completely different, for the wrong reasons
Listened to him the other day. What a top man.

Yammy, This is my first comment on your channel. I have wanted to comment many times. The reason I haven’t is because I was on the other side of the door for 25 years. And I imagine there will be a lot of negative comments, simply because of that. although I was a very well liked officer, who I like to think, was fair and steady, with good reasoning.
I can recall you vaguely, although you was on a different Wing to where I was working back in about 99, somewhere around there. Seeing you walking back from the gym. Although you were nothing to me, back then. Just a face in the crowd, while I was counting in our boys. I can see how you were a right rascal, putting it politely. Although you were not a problem in our jail, while you were there.
You have great natural flair for presenting and you have the potential to have quite a flourish. Don’t give away all your stories for free. I’m sure you’ve looked into all the possibilities, books and all sorts of other stuff. I know what addiction is like. And when you weren’t producing any content recently, I worried for you. I suspected the darkness had come. A darkness, I know well. I know you are no saint.And could be somebody’s worst nightmare. Just try to be the best version of yourself, which I know you are trying to do. And I must do the same. All the best!

I was in Brinsford with China in 1997 He’s hard work, but when you get to know him he’s okay. I’m sure he got lifed off for killing a copper on a motorbike, I think he would’ve got away with it, but they put microphones on his visit and in the pad and he was bragging about it, so stitched his self up from what I was told, not sure if that was the case, or not like I said once you get to know him, he’s a good lad but a bit loud LOL sorry for the long comment yammy
