This video is about how Edward Bernays' theories on propaganda, politics and business have influenced Donald Trump in the way he ran his Presidential Election campaign. Bernays was Sigmund Freud's nephew and is seen by many as the father of public relations. Trump used alternative media as opposed to traditional mainstream media to help promote his message to the masses and defeat Hillary Clinton.

Sounds like your complaint is that Trump "Bernays'ed" Hillary better than she was able to "Bernays" him. I seem to recall the gist of the anti-Trump campaign being that Trump was unfit for office, too. It's sad to me that that is how politics works: it kind of tends to support Bernays' opinion that the masses really are asses and it's a very bad idea to let them have any say in how the world is run. Of course I believe the solution is to teach people to be smarter and to be more realistic about how the world really works, and to persuade the masses not to be asses who believe in chocolate unicorns and rainbow lollipops.

Actually, looking at the way Biden conducts himself vs all the fringe stuff trump said and done to damage our relationship with international partners, that in itself is a big plus. For example, Trump was a climate change denier and took us out of the 2015 Paris Agreement which is important for reducing America's destructive production methods on the atmosphere. Meanwhile, Biden restored that relationship.
Though, I agree that Biden isn't that much of a savior as my Boomer Clinton-era Dem parents see him as. I honestly think figures like Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, Burney Sanders, Joe Biden, etc. have done their part to make very apparent to the overall public that there's a big problem in the way we're currently conducting policy. The disassociation between the needs and circumstances of old and the new are incompatible and real, fundamental revision in government struct is a must.
I appreciate these videos. But I suspect you have seen the Century of the Self then read Bernays. And what you should do is read Jacques Ellul's Propaganda. Which is far more comprehensive than Bernays. And far more critical of Propaganda. You would realize that these little info nuggets are also Propaganda (the use of music, and illustrations, and the quick conclusions), and therefore not fully human communication. I have made several long videos on this subject.

I don't think that this video was arguing that Trump and his faction are the only ones able to use PR tactics to appeal and direct people's unconscious desires so that they would support him. I think he was instead arguing was that Trump, unlike Clinton, used Bernay's playbook masterfully because he was a businessman and in my opinion, galvanized people through being ingratiated with the media for decades.

You don't do that by being a con man.
Trump never declared personal bankruptcy. A few of his businesses declared chapter 11, mostly during the recession of the 80s.
So many other businesses did the same, and were never heard from again.

500 businesses, hiring thousands of people.

Hi Obtain, first time I see your channel, you have a good head on your shoulders. I will be checking out more of your content.
Trump did use Bernays' methods. In all honesty, that is the reason there seems to be some irrationally against him. Trump, essentially came out of no where and beat them at their own game. He used better strategy and to add insult to injury, he used their vast network of influence and reach against them. That was absolutely striking to watch.
Hilary did use the same method and with an entirely different strategy, which appeared lazy and "posh". Even Bernays' would have never allowed her to do this, as it's a rather poor usage of his methods. Her scandals honestly didn't help, almost everyone of them damaged her credibility. Two are key, the first is the email scandal, in which she appeared to be a secretive liar. The second is honestly the internet one, Pepe. This one made her looked like an out of touch joke, from the internet's perspective. If you don't understand why I say this, please look into it.
This is where the irrationality comes into play. It almost seems each side doesn't understand this. Trump is down played as an idiot who got lucky and sadly the conversation spiraled in to some rather bad PR moves on the part of the Democrats and the media. They had pretty much controlled the Bernays' method for years but had forgotten how to play the PR game.
Trump's advantage in this game is he gave context for his "fear" Tweets in speeches. He spoke of a lot of unspoken and dirty secrets but that have been played in the US for years. All of it was known but rarely spoken about. When the media only reported him saying his Tweet and not his context, it gave his followers not only something to talk about but something to use against their PR. Which forced the media to give him more exposure. That move was brilliant.
This has had a rather negative effect on the media however. Their inability to get out of talking points only are only fueling distrust. People are now begging for nuanced media and the longer it takes them to become objective and honest in reporting journalism, the more they will die.
Love him or hate him but you should admit he played the game rather well. Trouble is, he exposed the game, bare faced. People may not understand it, as they are still caught up in the left vs right mentality but they will in time.

Currently the economy is at 20 year highs, both in jobs and consumer confidence. Trade with China is improving vastly. Child trafficking busts have netted criminal gangs largely ignored in previous years. The rouge state of North Korea is quite possibly being disarmed, and other dangerous armed cells like Isis are near wholly irrelevant. And it is the parties on the Right, aligned with Trump and Trump supporters, who now carry the ideas of free speech and equality in their politics.
None of these things are false, that domestically and abroad finances and saftey are increased since his inauguration, and that his supporters greatly value civil equality and freedom. But the very people Trump ran against have managed to convince the media and its followers to push the idea that all of these things are the opposite of reality, that everything is worse, everyone is poorer, everyone is less free, everyone is unsafe. And aren't even hiding anymore that they are lying: Nancy Pelosi just this past day claimed consumer confidence must improve and that nothing else shows how the economy is improving, therefore blustering about Jobs is meaningless... despite the fact reports have just come out saying consumer confidence is at an 18 year high. Leftists at home and abroad claim our tariffs are aggressive and unfair, but fail to inform their followers how the US has been placed under one sided and harmful tariffs for decades. They have cheered, twice now in as many years, when they believed Trump meant to invade Syria and increase the killing happening in the world, but sneer at the idea that Peace in Korea could ever happen, or even that such peace could actually be harmful due to glorifying Kim and strengthening his global clout, only months after having showered Kims sister, the VICE PROPAGANDA MINISTER OF NORTH KOREA in praise as being a superior statesmen to out own vice president during the Olympics.
People saw his message. He explained his thoughts in sometimes crass detail, but provided *detail*. And things have gotten better in the ways he said he could manage them to get better. In direct contrast to the people who promised, and lied, and manipulated, and failed to make anything better but wholly succeeded in making things worse... what he said, how he reached out and what he fulfilled since just doesn't seem like propaganda.
Not that it couldn't have been, nor do I think that his seeming success means he has no ulterior motive or powerplay in mind... but when you talk straight to people about issues to get into power and then your time in power seems to see those issues lessened... it's hard to see that behavior as propaganda. And while yes, that would make it the best kind of propaganda, why should anyone think that he would manipulate people to enrich himself or cause them harm at this juncture, as he contests with people who have already been doing that and continue to do so?
If he ends up a tyrant or reveals himself a mastermind dictator, I won't just blame him and I won't at all blame his followers: I'll blame the currently aggressive, warmongering, brainwashing, criminal and corrupt officials who made themselves the perfect enemy to destroy through their selfish and destructive actions.
If Trumps campaign could at all be seen as propaganda, it's intent was only this: to reveal the truth obscured by his opponents propaganda and bring much worse monsters to light than he could ever hope to become without them.

Provided all this presentation is true and absolutely correct (if there is such a thing) and let's put Hillary Clinton in Trump's position with exactly the words and events, would the result have been the same? Bernays and the other psychologists/marketing people have massively altered the way society works. I’d recommend watching Adam Curtis’s The Century of Self for a really interesting deep dive into what happened (and how tricking hippies into being consumers was a small part of it!)

Trump success, in part, is that he appealed to his followers’ emotions. Biden, by contrast, appeals to peoples’ reason. As a whole, people are more likely to be swayed by emotion than they are reason.
