When you were with Revolution Golf I purchased your videos. Still have them and use them too, really liked the one on how to stop slicing the ball. Helped me a lot!
i have been watching you videos, practicing your techniques.. i was shooting in the mid 90's, now i am shooting in the mid to lower 80's thanks to you..... you are a great down to earth teacher, and i appreciate what you have taught me... i will continue to watch your videos, thank you Paul..
I tried this tip when I played last week, and it greatly helped my contact, with both driver and irons. I’m not there yet on fairway woods and hybrids, but I’ll get there with a bit more practice. Overall, it helped me trim about five strokes from my typical score, so that’s a good start. Thanks, Paul.
I've discovered this principle you're teaching myself(I stuck at golf still) I work construction and depending on how sore my back was, my widest arc would be different, so I'd have to redicover it every time I play almost, I feel like I might need the book
Perfectly describes what I have naturally discovered for myself whilst practicing my irons swing. I have noticed the sweetest cleanest strikes are when 3 key things happen simultaneously. The first is to make sure the club face is perfectly aligned and straight. The second is that I am relaxed in my arms and shoulders. The third and most important is that I maintain perfect straight arm discipline with my left arm throughout the takeaway, backswing and downswing. You must allow the torso, hips and body to strike the ball ... like a pendulum... the moment you attempt to HIT the ball, you alter that perfect alignment by tensing and shortening the arms which means the ball alignment at addresss is no longer there to be found. You don't HIT the ball ... you STROKE the ball as a pendulum with your BODY ... NOT your arms.
I also would like to add that this tip reminds me of a super illegal “high stick “ maneuver that can be used to shoot a hockey puck through a sheet of plywood. I’ve been brainstorming about my hockey days since I’ve started golf and this idea of a loose popping widest arc easy swing motion is top on my list. This video confirms it. If I was able I’d purchase every thing you publish or create
Thank you so much Paul. I am a golf beginner. After watching your video, I practise accordingly and it helped me a lot at hitting the sweet spot. Thanks again for your teaching and sharing.
Paul Wilson did it again... this is exactly the point of single plane "Moe Norman" Great explanation Paul. Thanks for all these tips. every day i enjoy your videos. Your voice so calm and relaxing.
I just started golf and you have a very positive demeanor and easy to understand knowledge. I feel like looking up definitions after some tips due to my ignorance of all lingo golf related, but you spoke right to my subconscious need to understand. I don’t know who golfers are or watch golf on tv much but your attitude is what I expect from top athletes. When I imagine who these guys are on tv when I do watch I believe they should have your energy
Thanks for the great response!! Truly appreciate it. Since you are just starting out, you need to focus on some drills and good positions in your swing. Please keep me updated with your progress.
I love the way you break down the swing & explain every detail so clearly & simply in a way I fully understand what you are talking about. Also like how you emphasis to practice & practice to learn to not swing the clubs with our arms. Thanks for all the great tips!
Just got back from the driving range & tried the tip on fixing the "over the top" swing. Drives were right down the pipe. Amazing!!! However, kept seeing that most of my hits were on the club's toe. You nailed it when you pointed to the "chicken wing" . Trying real hard to rotate my hips in order to allow my arms to clean. You're one heck of an instructor.
Paul Wilson this video was fantastic. For the first time in my life I have drawn the ball today on the back of this advice re. the left arm. New subscriber here.
So glad you liked it. Maximizing your arc is a big piece. Too many people want to hit with the arms. In doing so the arc narrows so you will never hit your longest shots. This is a new feeling for you so keep doing lots of practice swings getting used to it. In no time you will never go back to narrowing.
Paul, you are the man. I tried out the body swing today for the first time on the course, with no prior practice (ill advised, I know haha). While I came a bit over the top on 2 or 3 shots, I also hit my three best iron shots of the entire season (25+ rds so far). I mean seriously, the ball flight is incredible. Looking forward to more practice with the swing.
Just a different way to do it. And people wonder if I can make you play pain free. How much pain would you be in swinging this way. None. You can literally do it forever.
I have a straight left arm at impact but due to years of being told to get my left shoulder up and around behind me before impact the degree to which my left scapula is either retracted or extended varies producing inconsistent impact. Perhaps something other than deliberate focus on pulling my left shoulder around and up should be getting my shoulder in the right position without all that non-repeatable conscious effort.
I am so inconsistent with hitting my irons regarding hitting the sweet spot. I will practice getting the maximum possible arc with full arm extension. I would think that when setting up for the swing I should extend my arms fully and note where the face of the iron meets the golf ball approximates the sweet spot. So if I keep my arms extended at the swing I should meet the ball at that spot
Big problem with most people. You are hitting with the arms and doing a chicken wing which is moving the face all over the place. So yes, stretch out your arms at set up (extended but not tight) with the ball in the center of the face then let them stretch back out as I show in this tip. If so, you will consistently hit the center. You start stretch out then buckle though impact it will be luck if you do it twice in a row.
66 yesterday ... I never once took a rip at it . Play the game that can't be won , with no ego ..be humble !! You don't need driver on every hole ! We all miss shots ...all of us . Learn to scramble ...learn to chip & putt ...practice them . Alot . The guy that's always on the chipping & practice green ...those are the good players .
Just discovered your channel and enjoying your ideas. Spending time doing your drills in lockdown. With this one, could do with a down the line view to understand how straight your arms are at address.... thanks.
So glad you found me and are doing the drills (even when not at the course). This is what it takes. Daily practice. At address they are fully extended but not locked straight. Need to predetermine the arc width. Here you go: th-cam.com/video/oZ7zSK_Q8WM/w-d-xo.html
I honestly don’t get this. I was told the arms need to hang down at address. That creates an angle between arms and club shaft. So if you fully extended the left arm and club into a straight line at impact, eliminating that angle and creating the “widest arc”, why would you not be hitting the heel of the face or even the hosel? Putting it a different way, how can you prevent centrifugal force from straightening out that club/ left arm angle before impact?
I’m super stoked.. I have a business conference taking me to Glendale next week.. Paul has me shooting the best golf in years.. broke 82 last week. Taking my clubs with me for I don’t see the conferences taking all my time lol. I’ve always heard of Arizonas great courses can anyone suggest a good one?
That's great! Remember to watch this one: th-cam.com/video/glKnfVbhuXo/w-d-xo.html It can get and does get exciting so we try to swing harder and harder which is unnecessary. I would start your round swinging no harder than 50%. This way you can add more power instead of having to subtract it. Scottsdale probably has the best courses in the world. I played a couple but this was many years ago. I went out to Troon North and it looked incredible but there are many more now that are as good or better. Just look it up.
Hey Paul. Great video to pop up for today. While practicing over lunch today a few " perfect " feeling shots happened. Using a lob wedge a few shots really launched despite a very deliberately slowed down swing. All of the sweet shots showed a grass stain dead center on the face. In each case my arms really had no sense of being in the swing. Amazing , thanks.
Went out tonight, easy top takeaway, let the hinge drop, bring the back hip out and around to the front and reelllaaaxxx, pop! No swing thought, just let it go. Beautiful. Any wild balls are in a much narrower arc. Trying only causes: chunks ,pulls , slices, tops and lack of distance. I am beaming. Thanks.
No sense quitting. Just watch my tips. I have helped many people in the past who were going to quit start playing great golf. Just have to see it differently. This is the unanswered question. The 'widest' arc would be pushing your hands away from your shoulders, completely flattening your wrists, making a straight line from shoulder to club face. Like Moe Norman. I play like absolute garbage when I try to do that. I enjoy the swing more to keep some wrist angle (hands a little down). My problem is balance. I tend to lean over my toes or sway, so the same arc, widest or otherwise, still gets inconsistent club face contact.
Yes Paul, you are absolutely right. Well, of course you make a few assumptions concerning posture (no early extension of hips, lateral movement), spin axes, correct rotation of the arms. Nevertheless this tip is very useful especially for people who try to hit instead of swinging.
All better golfers and pros have their arms fully extended when hitting the golf ball. This is what maintains the diameter of a circle (your golf swing). The great majority of golfers that I see have a chicken wing when hitting the golf ball, so they end up hitting thin or topped shots or even toe shots from the contraction of the arms. If you start with your arms fully extended, how do you hit the sweet spot again? Just stretch your arms back out. You have already told yourself where in the club face you are going to make contact with the golf ball. Even if you had a slide (lateral move with your hips) you still need to have your arms fully extended just after contact to make sure that you hit the middle of the club face.
I love your videos. I actually stumbled onto your theory on my own, this past April , when I bought a hitting net during COVID...four days later...I lost it because I didnt understand what I had found. ....Now, I get it thanks to you. Your videos are great. I have that swing theory again. It's been a week or so and I am feeling it again! I have a bad back and after practicing too much, hurt my shoulder...now in physio :-(..Thanks to you and your swing theory, I'm hoping to play golf for the next 30 years... Im 55 ....but seeing the wear and tera....keep it up Sir!!! And thanks.
@@paulwilsongolf I learned something very valuable yesterday...I thought I had your swing down pat after two practice sessions that were awesome... Played yesterday.... Now I know that I need to repeat repeat repeat... But I will get there... Thanks very much for the awesome videos...
I really appreciate the reality of 'The Body Swing' Your teaching help us to understand and feel how our body can work for us as well as against us in the course of our lifetime playing this wonderful game. All hinges in our body are fully connected to our body and therefore all work in the sequencing of our swing. To simplify our thought process; (although not factual) we can imagine that our upper body starts the swing and our lower body finishes. This works well as long as we realize that all the hinges in our body are passive. It is the proper activation and deactivation of the muscles around our indivisible joints( hinges on our body) that must be felt and realized throughout the swing. Correct?
I am not good at golf at all I really wish I was I've really been trying this year and I think I might be doing multiple things differently in each swing but I'll continue to watch your videos and hope that I improve. 😎
Just follow the tips below and start to work on it. ***START HERE*** Body Swing Concept: th-cam.com/video/E8y9jEyY35k/w-d-xo.html Grip: th-cam.com/video/jQZLp8bF-Ww/w-d-xo.html Hinge Rehinge: th-cam.com/video/6ZeTqcz2pmE/w-d-xo.html Alginment: th-cam.com/video/VFZc0Wq282k/w-d-xo.html Secure Grip: th-cam.com/video/Z8K3Gctkz7A/w-d-xo.html Best Drill: th-cam.com/video/cVhtL-d1B9Y/w-d-xo.html Power the swing with the legs and hip not the hands and arms. Keith to hit uphill for a right hander bend your left knee so your shoulders are level keeping 60% of your weight on your left side opening your left foot more so your hips turn Keep that weight on the left through the backswing other wise you will hit the ground first stay relaxed. Down hill slightly wider stance play ball closer to your right foot so you collect the ball playing the ball to far forward means you will top the ball.
Combined with your grip pressure, arm relaxation tip, I think I will concentrate on this also. It seems easy and spot on. Thank You. Reminds me when I was going to target with plenty of distance.
You can if you want. I don't prefer it because it tends to lock up the arms. You get the sweeping action due to the body being more tilted at impact than at set up.
Good stuff Paul! I've been crushing the ball using your effortless power techniques. Lately though, I feel like I'm hitting everything off the toe. I'm wondering if I'm starting to use my arms more (chicken wing) through impact. Could this be the cause of that?
I bought your "How to hit driver" series and it's really helped me. Along the subject of this video, I keep hitting the heel about 90% of the time. Am I leaning into the swing-- too much forward?
Thanks for your purchase. Glad you are improving. Yes, you would still be hitting with arms which is sending you over the top. You need to not hit or help the shot in any way with the arms. You do this and your body will lead while the club follows.
Hi Paul is this the same swing as you taught years ago with Mr Nudsen as your mentor.I have the videos from you time with Revo golf on my computer. My parents bought me some Videos from 2/6 Terry Bradley. He is a arm first downswing teacher and I cannot handle his concept. So do I get your New Body Swing videos are they different?
I did follow Knudson's teaching many years ago. I think we are similar. The Body Swing is similar and different. More short cuts now and different ways of saying things that I have learned since my first product. I also expanded on the different things people suggested over the years. Both work very well if you follow them.
I'm 53. I've been struggling with this since 16. The Crazy thing is that I have no trouble with smaller woods off the grass, but driving off the tee, I NEVER can hit the sweet spot.
Paul Wilson Golf "There is only one widest arc".....makes so much sense. SET UP PROPERLY and like you said....It's not about trying....I'm messing up by trying. Going forward it's all about proper setup, proper backswing, proper downswing sequence and letting it go.
When you extend the club at address to ensure your widest arc, how do you ensure you don't over do it and almost create a one plain set up with the arms and shaft in one straight line ?
Extend your arms without locking them. Just feel your arm muscles. If you really tight you are overdoing it. Plus, the tow should be slightly higher than the heel. If your arms were too tight the sole of the club would be flush.
This woukd be easy and true if there was only one axis. Unfortunately there are multiple axes when swinging a golf club. That and the himan body has so many parts and joints.
You need to give people some understanding as to how to repeat it. Yes, there are more parts/joints/axis but this is not my only tip on the channel. For those experienced with somewhat consistent swings this works unbelievably well versus putting foot spray on the face and telling people to try to hit the center of the face (which will never work). Axis: th-cam.com/video/EDlwfq_ZBvE/w-d-xo.html Divots: th-cam.com/video/_ji_zykZlY8/w-d-xo.html As you see I talk about them in those tips.
Surely this only works if your arms are stretched out in a straight line with the shaft! Like bryson! Every other person has an angle that can be stretched out further during the swing???
Paul, your videos and descriptions of the various parts of the golf swing are much appreciated...Thank you!
Thanks you for the support.
When you were with Revolution Golf I purchased your videos. Still have them and use them too, really liked the one on how to stop slicing the ball. Helped me a lot!
Thanks. Glad you like the videos. Curing slices is one of my specialties and it is so simple to do. Not fun slicing the ball.
This is gold. Just fixed my armsy swing and now back to compressing. Thank you!

Compressing the ball feels like your hitting a marshmallow

hi paul greatings from austria and thanks ......
Fantastic visual representation with the head cover. Awesome tip! Thank ya sir!
Glad you liked it! Thanks.
Thank you sir, I'm going out today and check that.
👏👏👏👍

I hit it better after I moved away from the ball a little ,I'll keep working on it.
Thank you sir. 👍
Yes, you don't want to be too close. Need the arms to stretch out fully.

Paul, when you say widest arc, are the arms extend directly at the ball or under your shoulders straight down?
This is the unanswered question.
The 'widest' arc would be pushing your hands away from your shoulders, completely flattening your wrists, making a straight line from shoulder to club face. Like Moe Norman.
I play like absolute garbage when I try to do that. I enjoy the swing more to keep some wrist angle (hands a little down).
My problem is balance. I tend to lean over my toes or sway, so the same arc, widest or otherwise, still gets inconsistent club face contact.
It make sense. Measured swing, as I heard Paul Azinger said once before. Thanks.
Glad you liked it. Thanks.
Excellent instruction as per usual Paul..Well played.
Thanks. I appreciate it.
Great tip. Can't wait to hit the range.
Thanks. Just let it go. Too many people keep trying to hit with the arms. This is different but once you try it you will hit amazing shots.
I have many students that struggle to find the middle because of poor footwork and heel/toe balance. Your tip is on target if balance is maintained.
I'm with you but it wasn't really about that. It was more about how the chicken wing causes you to miss the center.
And thanks.
So glad I could help. Not fun when you lose it. That's for sure. My swing will never hurt your body so it will be perfect for you. Keep at it.
@@paulwilsongolf I learned something very valuable yesterday...I thought I had your swing down pat after two practice sessions that were awesome... Played yesterday.... Now I know that I need to repeat repeat repeat... But I will get there... Thanks very much for the awesome videos...
Keeping your arms straight as possible through back swing and follow through
This help me alot ,his lag vedio help me instantly, I suggest watching it.
Glad to help. lag is a big part of the swing. Watch these too:

Correct?
Thank you. You re correct. Coil from the top ... uncoil from the bottom. Loose hinges. Yes.
But what about knee bending different and club head turning even at the widest swing they chang my swing so much and I dont hit the sweet spot
You need to have a half decent swing so your body coiling and uncoiling repeats. If you are doing a different swing you will get a different result.
I am not good at golf at all I really wish I was I've really been trying this year and I think I might be doing multiple things differently in each swing but I'll continue to watch your videos and hope that I improve. 😎
Just follow the tips below and start to work on it.

I absolutely love your teaching style.
Thanks for watching!!
Thanks Paul. What if you are hitting a ball that lies uphill, or downhill? Any change in position or speed?
Keith to hit uphill for a right hander bend your left knee so your shoulders are level keeping 60% of your weight on your left side opening your left foot more so your hips turn
Keep that weight on the left through the backswing other wise you will hit the ground first stay relaxed.
Down hill slightly wider stance play ball closer to your right foot so you collect the ball playing the ball to far forward means you will top the ball.
I have some tips on sidehill on my channels. It's a little hard to describe the others in a comment.
love your style of teaching. you have become my go to guy!
Thanks for watching!! I post more all the time and I hope you keep watching
Combined with your grip pressure, arm relaxation tip, I think I will concentrate on this also. It seems easy and spot on.
Thank You. Reminds me when I was going to target with plenty of distance.
Amazing! Best video of contact
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks.
This guys an f’n genius.
Glad you liked it. Thanks.
Back to the drawing board for me now, thanks I think.
Just tell yourself to not hit it with the arms but your body instead. Different power source. You'll be glad you did.
So should the club head at address be off the ground so the ball is center of the face?
You can if you want. I don't prefer it because it tends to lock up the arms. You get the sweeping action due to the body being more tilted at impact than at set up.
Good stuff Paul! I've been crushing the ball using your effortless power techniques. Lately though, I feel like I'm hitting everything off the toe. I'm wondering if I'm starting to use my arms more (chicken wing) through impact. Could this be the cause of that?
This is just because you are now thinking you're invincible so you are trying to see it before you've done it. Just slow down and little. Stay loose.
Confidence breeds distance.
Very helpful for me
Glad to hear that. Got to hit the sweet spot for sure.
What is your driver length?
44"
I bought your "How to hit driver" series and it's really helped me. Along the subject of this video, I keep hitting the heel about 90% of the time. Am I leaning into the swing-- too much forward?
Thanks for your purchase. Glad you are improving. Yes, you would still be hitting with arms which is sending you over the top. You need to not hit or help the shot in any way with the arms. You do this and your body will lead while the club follows.
Thanks pops
Glad to help.
Very good tip!
Love your videos. How can I get a personal lesson with you?
Sure. Just look up my site on google. paul wilson golf then email me. Thanks.
If you are not hitting the sweet spot you are hitting with your arms. Turn them off completely.
@@paulwilsongolf Thank you Paul. With your help, I've improved tremendously since that post.
Head cover example was a great analogy. No more foot powder.
Glad you liked it. Thanks.
Thanks Paul, I really enjoy experts like yourself who change the way I think about golf...
I love hearing this because golf can be confusing. I just like to explain it so it makes sense.
Excellent
Glad you liked it. Thanks.
Axis: th-cam.com/video/EDlwfq_ZBvE/w-d-xo.html
Divots: th-cam.com/video/_ji_zykZlY8/w-d-xo.html
As you see I talk about them in those tips.
This guys a legend!
Thanks for your support.
Paul Wilson Golf - does this apply to Irons as well ? Thanks for the reply!
Im with this. I like physics and geometry.
Thanks!!
Surely this only works if your arms are stretched out in a straight line with the shaft! Like bryson! Every other person has an angle that can be stretched out further during the swing???
Not really. Just do your set up with your arms extended not bent. You do not have to force them straight.
@@paulwilsongolf cheers Paul 👍
beautiful description!
Thanks.
Hi Paul,
Would this be relevant with your irons as well?
Yes, you only have 1 swing.
Great Tip!
Thanks!!
Awesome tip
Thanks I appreciate it.
Perfect
Hope you enjoy North Carolina Mr. Wilson as I will be taking you with me lol Video that is ...
Too funny. Been to Raleigh once. Nice place.
👍👍👍
Thank you.
