Weining a toddler from breastfeeding has less drama if the child already has been taught that No means No. I explained about being a big boy, big girl now and within a handful of days our schedule we put up showing our progress was down to the last feeding which was at bedtime. And when the time came to switch to sippy cups, we threw the bottles out together and we would cuddle and read books unless there was too much carrying on, in which case I got up and turned my back and kept walking away. Children, 16 to 18 months months repeatedly told what to expect and praised for good behavior accept the process with less tears. The number one thing - don't give in even once when your child is screaming for the breastfeeding. If you do your child will know just how far he or she must go to get the breast and will not trust your word if excessive wailing gets what they want. This mother appears to want her child to reach the desperate begging point and were she to turn and leave, ignoring the drama and not give in, she'd have taught her little boy the new process by the end of that day.
Every time I see a child acting out for mama breasts, I am so happy I didn't breastfeed any of my kids. These children be acting out like breastfeeding is some kind of drugs. It's not for everybody's I know.
That's not asking, that's demanding. Ignore. Walk away. Do not reward that behavior in any way, shape or form. Tell him there is no more and he is done. Period. Then be the parent and put your foot down. He will get thirsty enough and drink from the cup once he realizes you're serious.
I totally agree. When boys get that old they don't even need to see a breast. I think that babies, I did say BABIES...get all those teeth and he is that angry he can feed himself. I went with a man for 14 yrs and l found out he was breast fed. It sure answered a lot of questions. As they get older either they will calm the heck down or go over the edge. But nursing a boy baby should STOP at a couple of months. After that it gets to be kinky. Sorry that's my opinion. Seems a lot of people feel the same.
To completely stop breast feeding at only a couple of months would compromise the growth & strength of a baby's developing immune system. (Bad enough they are required by law to have inappropriately many injections..) . A mother could begin the weaning process at 2 or 3 months and gradually, over many weeks, shift over exclusively to a bottle (and some soft foods) by 6 months. Important that a parent needs to be clear about being the adult - or the child will suffer psychological damage in its delusions of power.
Allowing a child to demand the breast and give in after a struggle definitely will not teach it good coping lifeskills. Seeing toddlers shouting "boob!" followed by them reaching inside mothers shirt is big time bad manners. Seeing a toddler wriggling and trying to get a comfortable position at the breast because of his or her size is gross.
Cruel that he had not been weaned completely by his age. Mother may not have been paying attention to the passage of time, if this were her first child.

Agree 100%. Sometimes it appears mom's like this get a kick out of making the child cry and beg for it.

I have several friends who were breastfed as children. They are all needy, desperate people lacking in boundaries.

Its best to never start breastfeeding. Not doing so eliminates this behavior.
