Updated: You can remove a piece of siding mid wall and there are tools to make it easy to do so. You basically detach the the panel above the panel you need to remove, then remove the nails or screws and remove the panel you need to replace. By doing it this way, you do not need to remove all the pieces of siding above the piece you need to replace. If you do choose to be quick and dirty about and it just put a piece over the broken panel like I did, you may want to use a longer piece, as it won't be as obvious. Also the glue used may not be the best option, as it is not designed for Vinyl.

@@suelagneaux5034 Just an update for those who are reading through the comments. Sue used Liquid Nails (I assume the Heavy Duty Construction Multipurpose that I used in the video) and it did not hold her vinyl siding. If you look up the specs on the glue, it does say it is not recommended for Vinyl. It did not work for her, so it may be a better option for you to find a glue that is suitable for Vinyl and outdoors. That being said, the piece in the video is still stuck to the side of the garage and holding. :D

I just have a few itty bitty holes from hail damage. I wanted to make it a quick fix. Cut out a piece to cover the hole (of the same siding), glue it with a quick drying glue and paint it to match. This is turning into something bigger than I wanted. I don’t know how to do all of the above; wish I did. I apologize for being snippy; you’ve been a great help for other projects and I was mad at myself and took it out on you 😩

3 things I would add. First the siding must match and the cut you make must be square, otherwise it will look bad and will not pass inspection if your selling a house. Second you need to nail the bottom right at the lowest point in the valley. Two white head nails would do it. Caulk the seams to water does not pernitrate into the cracked siding causing wood rot.

Siding expands and contracts a lot. If you look at the holes where it is nailed on they are long slots. So? well if you put nails through as you stated you will get buckling right there because that section can no long move side ways. The way 1d10crazy did it was correct because he glued siding over siding but did not nail it in place, it is only held to the wall by the original nails in the original holes.

Great idea. I just think I would use some of that glue along the left and right edges of the piece to maintain better contact. Other than that - great video.

Turning blade around on saw works fine. Also the best thing to cut siding is an angle grinder with cutting disc.

Thank you for the video. It's really helpful. How long does this piece of patch hold? has there been a lot of wind or rain toward this side of the house?

When you don't have matching siding, you are screwed right at the start.

Excuse me? Liquid Nails does not work on vinyl siding!!

You are excused! And though the tech data for the general purpose construction glue sold by Liquid Nails says it is not recommended for Vinyl, it works very well, at least with my experience. :D

@@1D10CRACY I trusted your expertise though and I bought this and it didn’t work! Don’t advertise something to just pad your pocket! This really pisses me off.

@@suelagneaux5034 I wish I was padding my pockets! :D That would be awesome! Well, I'm sorry it didn't work for you, but that patch is still on the side of the garage and holding strong. I don't really know what to tell you, other than try a different glue.

And if you did care what it looked like, use a longer piece.
