I went to Russia in 1989 with my family when it was communist. We didn’t get any evil stares. I just remember empty store shelves, lots of hookers walking around the hotel and it was hard to find food even for tourists. We were gonna go to
Moscow, but we left after only visiting Leningrad because the ussr was so inhospitable. Everyone wanted to trade for us currency but it was illegal for them to posses. They loved Americans because they loved us currency and all wanted it. We did have some items stolen. If you set something down and didn’t watch it, it was as sure as stolen. On the same trip my dad accidentally even drove into communist Germany. I don’t know how that happened, but when we turned around to try to get out we were detained at the border and our car was searched by military.
Black Phillip, seriously, you think a Russian can't distinguish between an American or Canadian accent? Anyone who can hear can tell the difference. I take it you think Russians are idiots or something? Or maybe you just think Americans and Canadians don't have an accent for some reason? Weird.
I'm German and it's very hard for me to tell the difference between the most american accents so I think it might be the same for Russians. They all sound very similar.
Gott Komplexx Dude I’m American and most are hard for me to tell the difference I also live in the Southern US and get told by everyone I have a “northern accent” no idea what they mean I think I sound pretty similar but I just roll with it now

Who honestly thinks random Russian men are likely to tell a Canadian accent from an American one??
That did seem strange to me. Australian, sure, but a Canadian isn't as radically different as an Australian or British.
And if they decide to get you, they won't care what nationality you are.
I wouldn’t even know how to do one because I don’t hear much of a difference between American & Canadian
After some thinking if the person was from the south or even east coast he might have had an accent that could give him away as American. So maybe he just dropped that accent & that’s what made him sound Canadian 🤷🏻♀️
I think he meant a stereotypical Canadian accent like what you might hear in TV and movies, also to say eh a lot. It's easy to fake an accent but mannerisms and slang are way harder to fake if you don't know the culture

Stereotype accent exist for a reason, as an Australian myself, there are some places where people do genuinely sound like that. From my experience, it tends to be more towards Western Australia, thereabouts, that the stereotyical Aussie accent comes from.

It’s definitely fiction. It’s not even subtly supernatural, it’s just straight up a CW/Buffy the Vampire slayer story. And there’s so much exposition in the dialogue, as if it’s all being said for an audience’s benefit-because they’re both saying things that they both already know and don’t need to be told.
