Chemically dipping a whole 1969 Mercury Cougar to remove all the paint and rust

  • Chemically stripping the paint and rust off this classic 1969 Mercury cougar convertible.
    This was a pretty simple job. The paint wasn’t tough at all and there was barely any rust. You may notice the bracing where the doors were. We recommend structurally reinforcing all cars but especially convertibles. That way it ensures there is no flexing or warping.

    Even after I haven't been an industrial painter for more than 10 years, I still find well prepared steel beautiful. Man, there was nothing like sand blasting mill scale off and watching that profile shape up. I would often draw shapes and then blast em smooth. You know.... For science

      Someone learned that the hard way. It's bad enough to lift it dry without them, but with all that liquid in it, it would get tweaked pretty badly.

    SWEET. Just brought back a memory from late ‘60s. I was still riding bicycles. Me and a friend rode our bikes to a row of garages where his older brother had a garage and was working on a car. Chevy is all I remember at that age. Well when we got there he had the paint and primer totally off the body. I didn’t know any better. Two days later we rode our bikes back over to the garage. Horror. The body had rust ALL OVER THE BODY. I can only imagine what he had to do next because we never went back to check. Ahh the good ol days. Thank You 🙏

      Like all Chemical Dip Processing, a proper Warm Water Rinse, is recommended! Sometimes it's Hot water, and Tipping, Rolling, etc, on something like this, to thoroughly Drain all solutions from the Metal Pockets, even before the Rinse, and again after!
      Even after the Pressure Wash Spray down.

    • @VicsGarage71
      @VicsGarage71 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@robertweekley5926 yeah I think the issue is that it’s hard to properly rinse between seams, and then on top of that, coating those part’s after. I’d dip parts like fenders and individual panels… but to dip a whole car, unless it could be dipped in primer after, I’d be cautious.

      We have a pit under the washbay that’s separate from our sewer drainage. The runoff is collected there. We then pay a company who specializes in chemical waste disposal to dispose of it properly for us.
