The campaign is underrated I mean, not the gameplay necessarily. People definitely dog on this type of loud dumb military shooter but bfbc2 does it right. In call of duty you have to obey its rules at every turn. That type of shit still blows my mind cuz most modern military shooters, especially modern battlefield, have terrible linear campaigns with no room for skill or creativity.

Great timing Gman!On a 16 channel Atmos setup using the DSU or Auro3D upmixer, it sounds exponentially better than the last time I played this during my 2nd year in the Army using a simple 2.1 setup. Your quote about sound design is spot on, I currently work with quite a few developers using the Dolby Atmos renderer to mix and properly place objects in the immersive sound field as opposed to legacy codecs which use channel based sound. It does require the user to have a minimum of 2 (in all reality 4 for the proper imaging of front to back and side to side overhead audio) but the difference when properly placed and calibrated is night and day compared to a conventional 5 or 7 channel bed layer setup or Soundbar. Atmos for headphones relies on HTRF (head tracking related function) which is far from being perfected and the results vary greatly in a similar way that there’s excellent examples of native Dolby Atmos and DTS:X soundtracks as well as sub par ones.
Man you mentioning Battlefield Modern Combat just brought back some amazing memories I had of that game. Probably still have it and a ps2 console, might go and play it again. Also imo the BF BC2 multiplayer was the best out of them all.
The squad you run with in the campaign reminded me of how good SW Republic Commando was. Really wish we had gotten a sequel, because it left us on a damn cliffhanger.
For Bad Company 2: The driving sections where you can drive yourself i used the third person camera all the way and for the mortar section you just have to listen to Sarge and only move when he says you should, then it's not problem at all. the vehicle section where you have to shoot behind you, it's a matter of aiming right. you kill everything with one or two hits and they are spawning the same way everytime. believe me i've played this campain way more then i should have probably, just for the charme of it over the years.
i still loved the chaos brotherhood and collecting those guns. i miss how games did this... like now games are just handing shit left and right. but this felt rewarding to finally find that last gun and it being a good one. kinda like zelda really. or metroid. rewarding you for exploring.
Modern Combat was one of my most favorite games; a bit arcadey, but once you get the momentum going, you become an actual Super Soldier! I need to note that for my Awards List.
Recently played through the first campaign again and it’s still so good. The open world and destruction really makes it fun. Don’t know why they didn’t continue with this kind of single player in later battlefield games.
Some of my favourite games ever. Cool to see you mention Modern Combat as well, it was awesome. It actually did have a story though, I played it again not too long ago.
BFBC 1 is my #1 favorite shooter game. It was my first. I remember the first mission, I did not know the controller sticks clicked in to crouch so I was stuck in the very beginning for a long time. I felt stupid when I figured out.
I think Battlefield 2: Modern Combat's campaign is incredibly underrated. It's exactly what someone (like me) who played the series up to that point would expect a story-focused BF game to look like, with more emphasis on the factions and the war than on individual characters, and taking part in large-scale battles where you fight alongside dozens of friendly soldiers rather than just a couple of squad-mates.
"The soldiers blend into the background" That's called Camouflage. Despite what popular media makes you think, soldiers don't typically wear the tactical equivalent of a high-vis vest to war.
They really towed the line on the T rating aswell. Tons of swearing (probably the only T rated game I've ever played where people regularly yelled "sh*t" and "b*tch") and extreme violence. I guarantee you the only thing that stopped it being M rated was the lack of blood.
"You can't really tell enemies frombthe frees or the bush" yeah that's kind of how camouflage works. Yeah in arcade style shooters having having enemies in bright red jump suits might work but in a military shooter that really is how it should be.
The online play in Battlefield Bad Company was super underrated for the time. Bad company was such a great game. I wish I could go back and play a game of gold rush.
I started watching your videos about a year ago and you have recently covered all of my all time favorite single players games. And now this!!! This is my childhood man. Thanks for covering it. Have a great day
The bad company games were both just masterpieces i have SO MANY memories playing BC2 with a buddy late at night playing for hours i got so excited when they announced portals in 2042 (obviously it turned out to be a disappointment) but the XM8 prototype is still i think my favorite video game weapon EVER it was SO good and sounded so NASTY i would also like to say thanks for posting this I've been very sick and watching you're content makes me happy hoping my kids and wife don't catch whatever the fuck i have
I loved Preston's character, most of the game had a pretty satirical vibe so it always was a nice change of pace or comedic in itself to have a single monotone-voiced dull character at the center of all the chaos
I have a fond memory of these games. BF:BB2 multiplayer is unchallenged to this day of how concise, well-designed, and how much variety it had. Yeah had so much fun back in the day with it. I might be seeing it through rose colored glasses, but when BF3 came out that was the end of great BF games
Bad Company 2 is still my fav BF entry. Even platin'd it. I think lvl 21 was the last lvl to unlock a weapon and still kept playing for months because the gameplay itself was so much fun. Well balanced, awesome map design, rush mode was so good. Even the single player campaign was fun. Ah yeah nostalgia..
Man i missed Sarge and the boys, the banter the squad had in BF:BC2 was priceless. I used to slow play the hell out of missions just to see what they would talk about if you didnt rush through the missions. When Flynn was killed and went to the great bong in the sky i had to take a moment of silence and rip a fat bong rip for him. That game was the highest point in the Battlefield series in my opinion, it all started going down hill after that...
Shame bfbc2 on pc is dead but there is some hope with bots being finally made and more or less working to keep the game alive. It's on a server called f&f.
BC2 was by FAR my favorite game growing up, especially Vietnam. I can remember role playing as a VC soldier with a PPSh on Hamburger Hill, everything around me being burnt from napalm. Over ten years later and I still haven’t found anything that captured the magic from this game. I still have a photo from when I finally hit the esteemed level 50 with an uncle and cousin there to witness it. It really was one of a kind
I played the shit out of BC2 on PC years back. I can't believe how long it's been. I still remember feeling it was a 'cutting edge and modern' game at the time. I think I was about 20 years old at that time and still in college. I'm nearly 33 now. Holy shit I feel so old.
And bad company 2 was the last time it was when you could level almost EVERY building. It's crazy to think how bad dice went down hill after BC2 and B3
The saddest part is, I always wanted a Bad Company 3 after all these years. But now, after seeing what EA did to DICE, I don't any more. There is no way they could ever make anything as magical as Bad Company every again the way they are now. I don't want them to ruin the fantasy.
I spent so much time when I first got battlefield bad company just blowing up bridges and trying to get across them in various states of destruction. As well as blowing up that whole town with the artillery strike phone thing just because I didn't want to fight the machine gunners in a "fair" fight. The second game was even cooler in my opinion for the story. The maps were great in both games for sure, as well as the set pieces and what not of the second one.
the key to getting past the tank section on the AWOL mission is that each vehicle encounter is pretty much scripted to happen when you reach a certain point, so you can just get out, and keep repairing the tank to 100 after each fight
i remember thinming Modern Combat was soooo cool. the way you could hotswitch to and from any soldier on the field was awesome - i wish we had a modern game with that system.
I'll never forget the bad company era of battlefield. Some of the best multiplayer I've ever played. Always thought it was cool how the maps started out clean and put together, but by the end of a match the entire map was just absolutely tarnished by people fighting.
I love seeing reviews of this game. Back when proper demos were still a thing and oh boy, still listening to Milt Buckner - The Beast til this very day! I still look back at it with fond memories. Replayed the games last year, still loving it! I still remember completing the single player of BF:BC2 at the time. ''The war isn't over, they're coming through Alaska.'' and then I started the multiplayer and went directly into a match, I got parachuted into Nelson Bay. Felt like a direct continuation of the single player into multiplayer. Could have been just luck that I got Nelson Bay d: Still a great memory and experience!
I will say this about the smoke effects and the blizzard/sandstorm blocking your view; it's a Fog of War moment. Blizzards obscure your vision to an insane amount along with sandstorms. Dust and smoke from blowing something up or from a grenade detonating will obscure your sight and make you unsure of where you need to go if you are not paying attention. It forces you to change your tactics if you are not careful. It's an amazing feature that gets you more in tune with how you play instead of the run-and-gun style.
I think the whole point of Bad Company (the unit) was that each member, while troublemakers, were also _EXTREMELY_ skilled at their craft. Sweetwater hacked into government infrastructure with what amounted to a potato, Hags is basically a savant when it comes to demolition and Preston (if I remember the story right) took a tank for a joyride and was basically operating all its major systems by himself (NOT an easy task). Sarge is arguably the only sane one of the bunch and he volunteered for Bad Company to get an earlier retirement.
Gmanlives: people have this mentality of new bad, old good. Me: yes, because battlefield 2042 is definitely a massive improvement compared to bad company 2, or battlefield 3, 4, 1 and V.
I remember this one so fondly. I mean, soldiers going off-grid to make a fortune is pretty much a road-trip story in the military genre. You got your bros with you, the open road with blue water and blue skies as far as your eyes can see, (mis)adventures to be had, etc. What's not to love. I'll take a military road trip with the boys like this over Russiakov Villainsky taking over the world plot any other day.

Thank you for this very objective review of a game that I look back fondly on. I didn't know the video would be this funny. Cheers.
The squad you run with in the campaign reminded me of how good SW Republic Commando was. Really wish we had gotten a sequel, because it left us on a damn cliffhanger.
Among other things, BC2 had absolutely amazing audio.
Firing the m95 and the m60 in the atacama desert level and hearing the echo is so good.
Ah the nostalgia. Thanks for covering these two rough gems :). Good times were had.
BC2 multiplayer still holds up today. Awesome maps and gameplay.
I felt stupid when I figured out.
never caught one of your vids this early. keep up the good work man!
The best thing coming home to after a long nights of work. Is one of your videos mate. Cheers!
"The soldiers blend into the background"
That's called Camouflage. Despite what popular media makes you think, soldiers don't typically wear the tactical equivalent of a high-vis vest to war.
Bad Company is one of my favorite "T rated" shooters I grabbed when I was a kid and couldn't get my parents to buy me M games. Good times:).
Yes. YESSS!
Unironically loved Bad Company 1 and spent days on its completely average online and hope we get a full remaster with new servers one day
Still remember playing through these with my dad watching being blown the fuck away by the destruction. Good damn times
Bad Company were the best characters in the entire series. And they never revisit them for some reason....
The gold bars light up like pulp fiction with the surf guitar
The online play in Battlefield Bad Company was super underrated for the time. Bad company was such a great game. I wish I could go back and play a game of gold rush.
If you have it on PlayStation the servers should still be active with some players
I also did quick search where someone was playing on Xbox 5 months ago with full server
Im buying it on PS3, come join the fun mate
Will say bad company 1 man had the best gun noises ever , that echo that everything did was amazing
Bc1 was great, one of my favorites
Bad Company 2 was my first battlefield game. Made me fall in love with the series.
Man i really should replay these campaigns...
Duuuuuuuude! So fucking happy you decided to do a video for these.
My favorite military shooter campaigns for sure.
Fuck yeah, man. Battlefields just special. What a great video idea
Battlefield Bad Company had a truly spectacular campaign, BFBC2 had a damn good campaign but the multiplayer was truly underrated.
Remember when Battlefield had a theme song?
Instead of broken sound design pretending to be music (2042)
I played the shit out of BC2 on PC years back. I can't believe how long it's been. I still remember feeling it was a 'cutting edge and modern' game at the time. I think I was about 20 years old at that time and still in college. I'm nearly 33 now. Holy shit I feel so old.
Oh man, back when games were just *fun*
And bad company 2 was the last time it was when you could level almost EVERY building.
It's crazy to think how bad dice went down hill after BC2 and B3
Glad i finally platinum this game.
The saddest part is, I always wanted a Bad Company 3 after all these years. But now, after seeing what EA did to DICE, I don't any more. There is no way they could ever make anything as magical as Bad Company every again the way they are now. I don't want them to ruin the fantasy.
Considering the weapons you're using in most first-person shooters these days, it's a shame destruction like this hasn't become a standard in FPS's.
"middle eastern villages"
*shows footage from Chile*
the key to getting past the tank section on the AWOL mission is that each vehicle encounter is pretty much scripted to happen when you reach a certain point, so you can just get out, and keep repairing the tank to 100 after each fight
Will you ever review CoD World at War?
i remember thinming Modern Combat was soooo cool. the way you could hotswitch to and from any soldier on the field was awesome - i wish we had a modern game with that system.
“Oh look new guys dead “
War tapes in Bad Company 2 is insane with a good headset
They used to make em like this. Now it's all strang wahmen and weak guys.
Bad Company One and Two are absolutely fantastic.
_Spec Ops: The Line_ pls
I'll never forget the bad company era of battlefield. Some of the best multiplayer I've ever played. Always thought it was cool how the maps started out clean and put together, but by the end of a match the entire map was just absolutely tarnished by people fighting.
I really enjoyed the Campaign for Bad Company 2.
The chopper mission in BF1 made me wonder what a Desert Strike reboot would be like. Really great part of the game.
The sound off the grenade launchers alone is amazing. They sound so raw and powerful.
