BOBF would have worked as a one-off in the style of Werewolf by Night - a ~45 minute story about Boba escaping the Sarlacc, joining the Tusken Raiders and getting back at the Pykes which leads into where we meet him in The Mandalorian

@@thegoldman25 No offense, but it’s not close at all. The reason people started disliking the Disney era is the last Jedi. And is still the main reason to this day. Regardless of what people individually think of the movie personally, it’s negative impact on the franchise is something people do agree on
The second reason (whatever it may be) is a very distant second

Agreed. The Last Jedi created a divide between fans as large as the Grand Canyon. It remains the source of so much controversy and hatred in the fandom. The Book of Boba upset people or left them apathetic, but didn't turn fans against each other in the same way. When people want to rag on Disney Star Wars, The Last Jedi is the first target while Book of Boba might not even get a brief cameo in the discussion.

@@thegoldman25 I think you're thinking about the film, much of the time, in isolation. TLJ had some 'potentially interesting' plot threads, that weren't explored. But it largely didn't fit well in the larger arc of the Skywalker saga. And I was literally getting angry at how dumb some of the characters were while I was watching it in theaters on opening night, before any reviews started coming out. It was VERY bad in the larger context of the series. It's impact score should have been 1/10, regardless of your opinion of it. You even acknowledged that it had a "nuclear" negative impact on the series standing. It can't really get much worse than that.
TFA was also a fine enough movie, I guess. I enjoyed it well enough when it came out, despite its style being markedly different than what came before it. However, basically acting like the New Republic wasn't a thing, and not setting up a "grander" more compelling 3 movie story arc was a missed opportunity. It didn't really move the needle much.

    • @thelyghter7927
      @thelyghter7927 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

The big problem with TFA is that its not Star Wars anymore. The scrolling credits were the most Star Wars thing there. And then, suddenly we have an entire different style, a super dark setting with torture, mass murder, blood on screen, but suddenly Marvel jokes, world building is a mess, pacing is a mess, not feeling of anticipation, climax, etc.
And everything is because of JJ: so the movie us not a Star Wars movie, is a JJ movie. Is a Disney movie. You can literally SEE the causes of some plot points being totally outside of the movie, and starting in production rooms, while you are watching the movie.
Its corporate as f***, is souless, clueless of what a good movie needs (spoiler: a personal espiritual question or drive). They thought people wanted lightsabers, when they only wanted mothers, childs, fathers, friends, bonds.
This is probably the worst thing ever created in Disney era, not because of quality (a lot of worse things have been made, i.e. Book of Boba Gett, RoSkywalker, Obi-Wan), but because of cimenting what axes do Star Wars is rooted on: personal axes or Corporate axes. Things made by humans or by I.A. Archetypes, or Cliches. Self-respecting, or self-ironic-referecing. Old 70s Golden age rythm, or Marvel epilectic humour and editting.
This movie has every ingridient that will come in later bad productions of Star Wars, just not as evident.

I think DIsney Star Wars is hit and miss. TFA was a good blank slate to start from, R1 was good, TLJ felt like a fan fiction, Solo was a victim of TLJ's reception, TRoS was damage control, Mando was good (but Disney went overkill because of Grogu, which led to BoBF being underwhelming), CWs7 was a good wrap up to the animated series, the Jedi gaames have been very good, Obi-Wan (again) was underwhelming due to Disney's ego and overuse of the Volume, Ahsoka was good if you apprciated Rebels and The Clone Wars. I also enjoyed Battlefront, TotJ was also good for small insights to some prequel characters.

I’ll never forget seeing “ The Last Jedi “ in theaters and I went by myself . I left the movie more confused about what I just watched rather than trying to recap the whole movie because I was lucky enough to see another starwars film in theatre’s. Since I was a kid ,
I’ve seen every film since ep 1 going forward . Leaving the theater after watching the last Jedi was a very different experience. Some fans said what you said about TESB, literally a star wars magazine stopped publishing issues because they couldn't get behind TESB,
They said it divided the fan base.
Some Star wars fans have just always done this with every movie since Empire.
So I kind of think the sequel hate is overblown and just a repeat of what fans said about Empire, Jedi and then the prequels.
And as Time goes by most fans end up enjoying and appreciating the films.
Like why can't people just like whatever star wars movies and shows they like, and why are some people obsessed on the things they hate more than enjoying the things they like?

I am going to disagree with the masses and say that overall the Disney era of Star Wars has been pretty good. I think it has been just as good as when George Lucas had full control. There have been lots of excellent things to come from it like Andor, The Mandalorian, Rebels, The Force Awakens, Rogue One, and Tales of the Jedi. There has been some bad stuff as well in Solo, Resistance, Book of Boba Fett, but besides those three I have positive feelings for every other Disney Star Wars product. Some might be middle of the pack and just barely like, but still pretty good. I give it like a 7.5 overall and while not great, I probably give the George Lucas era a 7.1 based of my same calculations.

It shows the fandom that Disney was not only willing to branch out away from the films, but that they could make their own unique era.
While the sub-fanbase for the era is rather niche than the TV shows. With the High Republic being shown in Jedi Survivor and the Acolyte show coming soon, I could see more people becoming huge fans of the High Republic soon.

The people who love Luke’s portrayal don’t understand the reason why we hate it.
The problem is that RJ got Luke completely wrong. We’re expected to believe that after episodes 4-6 Luke learned absolutely from the failures of his predecessors. Luke rebuilds the Jedi order and instills his students with the same flawed dogmatic teachings that brought about the fall of the Republic, the Jedi and Anakin. All this, even though it was dogmatic masters who urged Luke to act against his beliefs and instincts.
In TLJ Luke rants about these flawed teachings, making fans think “oh, wow he’s so right!” missing the fact that 1: we’re retreading grounds already explored in the prequels and 2: it was up to LUKE to correct them.
RJ portrayed Luke to be an idiot incapable of learning from mistakes. He literally had to be told you could learn from failures. Completely maddening.

I am 26 and never watched Star Wars like at all. But 2 weeks ago I started with a new hope and now I’ve watched all their live action media. Am I a Star Wars fan? I’d say so. Would most Star Wars fans consider me a fan? Probably not. That being said here’s my opinion. OT is amazing. Way better than I possibly could have expected. Even knowing most of the plot it was still very enjoyable. PT is my favorite trilogy. Is it better than ot? Nah but it is gorgeous. Absolutely stunning visually, fight choreography was so much better and revenge of the sith is my #1 movie out of the 11 live action films. Now the sequel trilogy? Visually stunning, effects were top tier, sound and score were great, characters could have been dished out better but the characters themselves were not bad. But the story? Terrible. A kid could have done better. What I disliked the most was that TFA takes place after all the interesting stuff already happened. Did the story have to revolve around Luke? No but I’d like to at least be told his story along with han and leia, I was hoping to see more of their actual story. We went from Rotj to Luke already restarted the Jedi order… and had it burned down, han and leia had a kid, Luke and Mara had a whole relationship we NEVER SAW. The republic made a come back andddd it lasted for 10 years. Empire is gone but 10 years later now empire is back??? But it’s not the empire it’s “the first order” 😉 Hans son gets trained in Jedi arts and ends up being a sith apprentice ? Luke didn’t even try to fix things bro just ran away… Han leaves leia. Leia has been doing the exact same thing her ENTIRE life. Except for when she trained as a JEDI. There’s more but all of this is what we would have loved to see. But nah they said fuck showing actual sequels let’s reboot it and claim that everything that is unbelievably stupid happened off screen. And that’s why I think the sequels suck. Mando? 10/10 I love it. Highly recommend. Bobf? Ehh. Obi wan? Very nice. Could’ve been better but it’s the best Disney could do lol. Andor? Amazing. Very good. Would recommend. Ahsoka? Mid but enjoyable. Visually beautiful. Story sucked. Now that said I think Disney buying lucasfilm was a good choice. How can anybody think different? Oh you don’t like it? So im assuming you would rather just have no Star Wars content?
Edit. Solo was enjoyable. Probably would have been better as a series where he epidically goes on smuggling adventures. Rogue one?? Amazing. Knowing they were gonna die had me biting my nails.

Interesting analysis. I also think one thing I'll give attention to is some of the books and comics, some of which have honestly been pretty good. I'm currently reading Shadow of the Sith, and that book does a good bit to elaborate on elements from the sequels, in particular Rise of Skywalker, and I suggest checking it out. It doesn't fix the issues and decisions made with the movies, but it does try to remedy them. Rise of Kylo Ren also does a lot of heavy lifting and goes into the relationship between Luke and Ben that quite honestly should've been in the sequels. The new Thrawn books are also great, unsurprising given Timothy Zahn came back to read them. I don't have any real interest in the High Republic, but I actually think it's a cool idea to have a sort of subseries focused on a particular era.
Ultimately though, Disney's reign to me has been a mixed bag. The sequels left a lot of people disappointed, and the shows tend to be hit and miss. That said, it's not impossible to fix things. Yeah, there's a lot that's a mess, but this isn't a DCEU situation where the best solution is to hit the reset button. I know there are many people who would find that ideal, but in the case of Star Wars, I honestly think that'll just create more problems in the long run. It's better to find a way to fix what you have, and pave a new path forward.

a random thing rebels did that permanently impacted star wars lore that i rly dislike: accelerated aging of clones continuing into adulthood and into old age so they die of old age relatively quickly, I feel it really limits the potential of having clone characters in the OT era and beyond and basically adds an unnecessary time limit for when in the time like you can explore certain characters. It also doesn't really make sense as it implies that if the clone wars dragged on for a few more years or decades, the clones would really quickly be past their prime, but the way it limits characters is the biggest problem.

Coming from someone who was excited by Lucas selling Lucasfilm so others would have the chance to tell Star Wars stories (since Lucas seemed content to sit on the property, which, as owner, is his right), my interest in Star Wars has never been lower. It started out with some promise, had some definite high points (I did like parts of the sequel trilogy--though not entirely as a whole--and I'm one of the few who really loves Solo), but now I feel like I'm watching the shows out of brand loyalty, hoping for something great again. It's just been a downward slide of quality since the first season of The Mandolorian, and it just seems like nobody working for Lucasfilm nowadays cares enough about the property to put out a quality product. Book of Boba Fett took a cool character loaded with mystery and made him painfully uninteresting, Obi-Wan looked cheap and wasted the potential behind Ewan returning to the role, Andor took the dullest character from Rogue One and stretched that dullness out over 12 episodes, and now I'm slogging through Ahsoka. Every character is flat, has no personality, and I just don't care. There's just no passion being put into the series, and it shows.

It's insane to think about how far we've come since the contract was signed, and I only get more and more exhausted every time someone says things that're only gonna be repeated for years to come. Me personally, I simply love everything Star Wars, even if the project I'm consuming is one I would consider bad. But I understand that just saying that is enough for the fandom to consider me a criminal. But those are also the same people who never wash their hands after using the bathroom.
Despite all the flaws that Disney Star Wars has, I still really like a lot of what we were given. I still remember all the emotions I felt while watching Rise of Skywalker opening weekend and having the most satisfied feeling I felt in a long time, and even almost 4 years later I still love that movie regardless of all the problems it has.
It's generally heartbreaking seeing what the fandom has turned into now. It's impossible to go anywhere without someone scolding you for liking x because of y. It's just exhausting to be a Star Wars fan, and even calling myself a Star Wars fan fills me with shame nowadays.

I think my biggest things against it are…1) I’m not a fan of Han or scoundrel/thief stories; 2) it felt like everything we associate with Han came from 1 adventure. Tatooine was mentioned and I look at it like “You know, all he’s missing before ANH is failing Jabba on a shipment.”

Glad to see someone finally acknowledge TFA was pretty good. I am more of a visual guy. And the animations and visuals were really good in the sequels. Say what you want comment section, but I like all of Star Wars. And this is coming from a guy who grew up with the Prequels. So don’t think I’m like 8 years old. I understand why lots of people think the sequels are bad. But I personally kind of like them.

I am disappointed that your Force Awakens bit felt more like a vibe check than a more focused assessment of impact. The Force Awakens remains the highest grossing domestic film to date at almost $1 billion US. The official Force Awakens trailer has 110 million views. People showed up for this film. People were excited for this film. Not just fans, but the general audience. TFA has been used extensively by Disney as a marketing tool and a merchandising opportunity, as evidenced by their addition to Disney parks. And a 93% review score and an 85% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes clearly shows that reception of the film was extremely positive. As a spring board for the introduction of this new era, the film more than delivered.

TROS while controversial, ended the trilogy nicely and seems like it was enjoyed more than TLJ and Solo at least.

  • @IsaacV24
    @IsaacV24 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

The Disney era for my money has been a mixed bag:
There have been some good ones like R1, TFA, Mando S1&2, Bad Batch S2, and Rebels. Heck there have been some GREAT ones like TLJ, Visions, TCW S7 (particularly The Siege of Mandalore), and especially Andor. But there has also been a lot of mediocrity like Solo, Resistance, Bad Batch S1, Ahsoka, Book of Boba Fett, and Mando S3. And then there’s TROS which is tied with AOTC for the worst SW movie ever created.
I think this era has demonstrated that it can be great when they let trust their creatives to tell their stories and take bold and exciting directions like with TLJ & Andor. Where they get it wrong is when they do projects only for the sake of fan appeasement and just play it safe like with TROS or Kenobi.
If I could change one thing from this era, I would have kept the episode IX “Duel of the Fates” script and have Rian Johnson direct that film as opposed to JJ Abrams or Colin Trevorrow. Even if it wasn’t great, I would have preferred it for the sake of having an actual complete trilogy as opposed to TROS which was nothing but nonsensical nostalgia and a hollow end to what was a pretty solid trilogy before then. That and I think people would have still had a mostly positive opinion on this era of SW as opposed to the mixed to negative with the occasional positive response it seems to get nowadays. (The fact that they did let episode IX down as badly as they did is like if you were playing in the Super Bowl and you lost 70-20. Not only did you fail badly in front of billions of people, but you also failed in the most crucial game of the season. You could have won a championship and instead you became the biggest punching bag and the prime example of choking in the moment when it mattered most.)
Still tho, there’s been a lot of good (some great even) and a lot of mid with an extremely bad movie that was supposed to close out a 9-movie-saga. Could be better. Could be worse. Not the best era of SW, but not the worst either.
Rating for the Disney era of SW: 6/10 (Trust your creatives like with Andor & TLJ. Let them cook. Listen to fan criticism, but not at the expense of the story your creatives are telling like with TROS. Do all this and we will see a golden age of SW yet again.)

I think the franchise is currently in a good place because there is something for every fan or every era’s fan to look forward to. Fans who wanna explore a completely new era have the James Mangold film and Acolyte to look forward to. Sequel triology fans have the Rey movie (plus the upcoming Dave filoni film is leading up to first order. Plus the mandoverse fans have Skeleton crew and new seasons of Mando and possibly Ahsoka. Like I’m more excited for Ahsoka s2 than season 1. Plus tbb s3 and Andor s2 is coming so fans have that to look forward too. I agree that tales of the Jedi has a lot of potential if it uses it. Honestly I’m more excited for the future of franchise and I think it’s because of all good things which have come before

It's refreshing to hear the perspective of someone who genuinely enjoyed the sequels to a significant extent, especially since I've mostly encountered negative feedback about them. While I may not share the same enthusiasm for the sequel trilogy, I can appreciate the sentiments and rationale behind your viewpoint. Personally, I don't have much interest in anything related to or associated with the sequel trilogy, and I hope that Star Wars can move beyond it, choosing to explore new and uncharted time periods like the High Republic.

    • @thegoldman25
      @thegoldman25  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Probably on par tbh. The thing is the impact of the original trilogy would have to be like a 20. But let me give you my ratings for both personal score and impact:
      ANH: 10/10, 10/10, AVG 10/10
      ESB: 10/10, 10/10, AVG 10/10
      ROTJ: 8/10, 10/10, AVG 9/10
      TPM: 3/10, 5/10, AVG 4/10
      AOTC: 3/10, 4/10, AVG 3.5/10
      ROTS: 6/10, 8/10, AVG 7/10
      TCW: 8/10, 10/10, AVG 9/10
Final score is 6.5/10. So barely above Disney I would say

For one it’s not the fault of the Last Jedi itself that had a negative impact, it was the fans reactions and their misinterpretation of the previous films that created led to those reaction. I can’t count how many wild and stupid theories about the movie were, and how all of them were not true. Did people also fall asleep watching the trailers? Like that clearly showcased Luke being a grumpy hermit like what did they think was gonna happen? It’s also strange how so many people who complained about TFA being too much like a new hope and not taking risks, and when Star Wars did take risked they complained about it. That’s the point of sequels, you’re supposed to take risks and do something new and that’s what last Jedi did. All the fans are to blame for now knowing what the fuck they want.

I feel like with both bad batch and tales of the jedi, these shows aren't being rated for what they are, but what you want them to be. which is entirely fair, if it weren't for the fact that earlier in the video you make a point on another show (resistance i believe?) , about exactly that. leading me to believe that with bad batch and tales you might not be as aware of the fact that I dont think you quite understand those shows. I will agree that the bad batch is a pretty filler heavy and adventure of the week kind of show. but I don't know where you got the idea that it's a show that's supposed to explore the relationship between clones or a post-clone war life for the clones. both of those themes only pop up toward the 2nd half of the 2nd season and while I agree those end up being some of the more interesting stories and the show SHOULD be more about that, it is not. it's a smaller scale story ,about surviving from week to week in a galaxy that doesn't want you.
Tales of the jedi, if you take this as a set of disconnected episodes, which it seems like you do, this take makes sense and here too, I largely agree that what you wish the show should have been sounds more interesting in a lot of ways, Star wars visions but canon. But there is a very good reason that these stories focus on dooku and ahsoka, because the season very much tells a full ongoing story that spans multiple generations about the fall and rebirth of the jedi. Dooku being a huge part of the clone wars and why the jedi fell, and ahsoka, somebody with a direct line to dooku through her linage of masters, is someone who came to the same conclusion, the jedi order is no good, but instead of going on to join the darkside, she goes off and does her own thing, in the process becoming what a jedi should be...
All that is just beyond surface level and as a viewer, but especially as a critic, I dont think it's unreasonable to assume that you can see this story and message.
