Thanks to Tim Pierce for providing the link to this video. Truly awesome
That’s super cool
Indeed!! Thanks Tim, I have never seen this before. Just WOW!
Yes! That’s how I found this too.. so raw so good, thanks!
Yep, he sent me here as well.
Yes! Thank you Tim! I haven’t even seen this performance yet but I know it will be magnificent
Pure musicianship from the entire band!
This is pure rare Gold!!!!!!!!!!!
Toss Panos is. one of the world's. most underrated greatest drummers ever. He brings nothing but pure taste to fusion drumming and jazz. I saw him multiple times at. this small little club in Cold Water. Canyon in Los. Angeles at La Ve Lee.
@@hexo-mobius he’s absolutely great indeed. Too bad he has been rather quiet lately.
First time hearing Toss Panos and I'm very impressed
THAT!....was about the finest damn guitar playin I ever heard!!
1. I'm buzzed
2. Up from the skies 20:44
3. Cause we ended as lovers 33:44
4. Crosswinds 48:55
5. Mahavishnu Orchestra - Hope 1:02:01
6. Freedom 1:02:55
These 2 guys have recorded more albums than all other musicians on this planet combined.
As some official recording have come out of the Baked Potato, this should have been one of them!
OMG!! Steve Lukather is a beast! I wasn't ready for the shred master to demonstrate jaw dropping skills! I was completely traumatized at the 59:30 mark, I actually saw Elvis... Holy crap!
Damn, but that's the highest praise I ever heard. Completely justified too!
Yeah and people still call Clapton and Beck virtuoso guitar players 😂😂😂
Thanks! You may want to add "Hope" /Mahavishnu Orchestra on the list between Crosswinds and Freedom. They were playing only an intro but to play this song at the high school prime was amazing. Baked Potato was my favorite live house in LA.
I saw TOTO playing incredible Jazz at Bake Potato 34 years ago.
thanks for sharing this gem!! Amazing musicianship. The real thing. Two absolute grandmasters on guitar!
Shades of Beck and Hammer ... brilliant playing!
How much does it say, in the year that saw Jeff's passing, that the cry of a bent note on a Fender, became so timelessly essential to the emotional palette we wield as musical creatives?
he was an orijnl, from 1st breath to last, and we are all richer for what his axe injected into our hearts
must frame comment in the context of "Now That We've Ended…"
Blow by Blow. good ending to your comment?
Keys by Jeff were also awsome! Excellent by all!
For the life of me, I cannot recall seeing Landau EVER playing a Les Paul, on any of the shows I've seen with him and his band. Great video drop!
Sounded really good in his hands too!
He did w Michelle Branch live shows
Mike played a Lester on Jazz Ministry’s “Live at the Baked Potato” record.
@@fusion5866 Thanks for the info. The more Landau, the better!
Well, that was way too awesome!
Awesome...looking forward to the second set!
I have waited YEARS for this! Thank you!
Decades ago i saw joe pass at this club it was a humbling experience !😊
Outstanding! Omg, the Les Paul tone tho... perfection.
Came here thanks to Tim Pierce.
Nice Performance.
Last time i was at Baked Potato
Was in 2006 when -
Tony MacAlpine, Bunny Brunel, Pratice Rushen, Gary Novak Performed.............
thanks man very very much !!!! I will hope you post the second part : set two ! thanks
Infinite thanks of upload..this is history of music
!!! (last two track: Hope (Mahavishnu Orchestra), Freedom (J.Hendrix) : big thanks!!!...
It was "Hope" before "Freedom" but still..! :)
@@Mondoslug yes similar progression chords but is "Hope"..;)
thx
Landau has the absolute best toner I've ever heard from a Les Paul...EVER !
Merci 🙂
Great set guys! I got lost in the groove and no one can find me. 😊
Damn, Lukather plays some really beautiful stuff over the changes. Moreover, that tone is the best I think I've heard from Luke, playing anything other than a Les Paul. Fantastic video.
Merci Olric.👍
Thank you for posting this show....💚🎸
That's just what I need to get over my flue :) Thanks for posting this is bad ass!!
You like jumping over chimney flues?
Omg & Wow! Thank you so much for sharing this with us all! Lovers of music,Landau & Luke and the Six String Grail. Seriously though, this is a diamond found on here. Thank you again brother. 😊
Crosswinds use to be on yt years ago. The groove is perfect to improvise over. I would jam to it all the time sitting on the foot of my bed using a 94' Fiesta Red 62' Reissue. I sucked then, play much better now, and still have that sweet fiddle. Kick ass rendition by both Landau and Luke. But the drumming ,Jeesuz!!
Really amazing! Thank u so much for posting this.
I knew Lukather was good, but this is god-level.
Toss Panos!!!!
Yeah, a great drummer indeed.
@@olric63 his work with Robben Ford is outstanding!
And his work with Mike Keneally and Fire Merchants!@@TheHonudiver
Toss is the best drummer on the planet.
Don't forget the "Toy Matinee"
Super❤
Luke's solo of Cause we've ended as lovers is out of the world. And he's even getting better with the years.....WOW!
Did he use W/D/W?
Golden times when people came to listen an not just filming with their cellphones like mad
Love Lukather but Landau's tone - dear god, its humongous! Amazing
Massively massive. Insane.
If you like this, checkout Greg Mathieson Project, Baked Potato Super Live from 1982 with Jeff Porcaro on drums. It's amazing!!!
끝내주는 전설의 레전드!
Praise to Toss, NO kick working in the first song. Did you notice?
Landau !!!!!!
I was in the front row that night.
Damn ! Must have been so nice
Did you shoot video too? There’s a sign on the stage that expressly forbids taking videos or photos.
Absolutely not. I know Luke and respect the fact that when he plays the Potato he just wants to have fun and not have people aiming their phones at him. He wants everyone to be into the music and the performance because there's nothing like seeing Luke in this tiny club.
Amazing! Thanks so much for sharing this great piece of music history! Please tell us that the second set exists and will appear soon!
It does exist… it will be up soon.
@@olric63Excellent news, thanks a lot. 👍🤝
😍😍😍
Landau from 11.30
Jimmy Johnson from Mpls. and the group "Flim and the BB's" set some bench marks.
I’ve always loved his tone. Would love to play an Alembic someday. Saw him record at Ocean Way one time. An Avalon compressor, a little bump at 100 hz, nothing more. Pure genius player. Nice to hear him again.
04 couple of the last of Lukes wasted Years before he sobered up.
Playing of course was always still fire though that never changed
No needing saying boit sober.. keep those things to your self. #1 none of our biz wax except His pr whom evvas. So enjoy what whom evva is great at. I hate hearing dat bs about ph he did this hadn't we all. Maybe not sale deal but the same in another deal. So stf up
❤ me some baked potatoes, man.
Butta an sour cream. Damn Dat Luke brother. Shit he's the masta
Awesome! There is a sign says no pictures or video taking of the performance, looks like you got a pretty good shot🤣
I didn't record this, got it in a trade many years ago. I wish I was there though.
Freedom - last song missing in your description. Thanks! :)
Thanks, noted, I’ll change the description.
Great performance, but wish the video shoot was up to par...
Well almost 20 years ago, technology was not the same as today’s.
I could care less about the video quality, it’s great this even exists. Thank you so much for sneaking that into history ! Wish there was video of the jeff days early like their super live album, with pop and boys! Just fantastic!
I think we should feel lucky the audio quality is so high. This sounds great still, which is rare for this kind of recording.
@@olric63
At least you was able to
Record this Performance.
Now, Baked Potato
have signs saying don't Record....
I always loved Landau much more than Lukather. He has an incredibly taste and sound.
Lukather over the years has developed into a pretentious shredder while Laundau has matured his style so well. Too much testoserone is not good for music... but, of course, there are many other examples besides Lukather. Peace and feeling is crucial for a good solo!
I heard Luke with Toto in 2022 and he was phenomenal.
He aged Well, didn't shredder, was more mature and relaxed. ❤
I agree to your comment concerning mid and late nineties as well as early 2000's, but he changed.
Luke himself speaks about the reasons in his late interviews.
I'd agree that Lukather did lose something, in the late 80's and on. In his peak, during the late 70's and early 80's, his tones were consistently thick and warm, and his solos, whether improvised or not, had a compositional quality to them. The guy still plays great, but something changed, and that's when, particularly in the early to mid 90's, I became a much bigger fan of Landau's. Both guys sound great in this video, though, must be said. The whole band kills it, really. Thanks for posting!
Luv it! Unfortunately the recording sounds like garbage to my blown out ears.
WTF!?
