    Recovering guard from side control usually involves inserting a knee to your opponent's hips. To stop the chasing game between your escape and their top pressure, you must use your knee correctly.

    Much respect to the professor for still giving so much time and energy to the beginners. Would be an honour to be his student

      I am a filthy white belt, we have a handful of black and brown belts in our gym. Our coach has started forcing us to do consecutive multiple rolls with the Black and Brown Belts. I feel like I learn a months worth of material in those rolls. The upper belts are really good at stopping and saying "Hey you did this really good, but do this and you will be able to pass my guard" or "Hey you are really struggling with this, let me tell you why." it's amazing. Roll with upper belts, they love to download knowledge straight into your brain.

    Master JJM, Prof mark and Prof Jay are awesome. They simplify the most complex moves so us beginners can understand.

    This is perfect and true. Maintaining the elbow under the chin pointed high is so crucial.

    My problem with these instructionals or demonstrations is that the guy on top is always in a terrible side control. He's right by the bottom guy's hips and not dropping much weight. I never get placed in such an easy side control unless it's by lower belts, and my side control never looks like this. You should be on the bottom guy's shoulder, diagonal to me and dropping tons more weight. The side control being shown here is easily escapable, but not the type you'll run into with guys who know what they're doing.

    • @JoseLuis-wj3vc
      @JoseLuis-wj3vc 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      When dropping much weight it's harder to do wedge escapes, but it's become easier to do rolling escapes.

      @@JoseLuis-wj3vc No, not really if they're doing a proper side control. These are like white belt side controls. Go watch professional matches and tell me the high-level guys hang out down by the hips.

      I’ve been teaching for many years since brown belt. I always make it a point to have the top position opponent in a true high and tight side mount; I.e. head down, elbows of bottom guy isolated due to opponents knees and elbows inside the arm pits and the general position of the top opponent well above the bottom guys hips. Same with mount escapes. The positions have to be deep and fully sunk where as it takes some nuanced shimming techniques before the appendages can be activated.

      I’m assuming it’s for the sake of learning I saw mostly white and blue belts in the class so it’s probly a beginner class

    • @kommisar.
      @kommisar. 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@netero3233 I've seen these sort of escapes demonstrated in much the same way. The guy on top has a really weak side control and it's not difficult to escape.

    Lol raise your knee up like that to keep me from mounting and I'll just push it back down lol. I'd expect better from JJM.

    • @Spiritof_76

      You miss a detail he did not explain. If the knee is vertical the foot can be angled out so when you push, you push the leg vertically straight into the floor. Unless you can compress the bones of the shin itself, it will not push back down.
