i think chaka's just one of those rare women who get better with age looks wise, vocally, etc. the more experience she gains the better she is. i love it. i think they complimented each other nicely here. it's proof that the old and the new (well less new now lol) can come together while still respecting the "old" (i need to think of a new word because i can't accept chaka and old in the same sentence lol) perhaps mature? oh well nice talking to you
THE THE BAND IS POINT FIRST, FOREMOST, & FUNKY. NOW, vocals listened to by a dancer, we're ALWAYS TRYING to find that place where we can sit back and GROOVE, & that part ALWAYS gets me when I watch this video when aired in the 90s and NOW: 3:53-4:00 showed the perfection of their voices together and that band making a COMPLETE FUNKY GROOVE MASTERPIECE, "shoulder moves/stank face/look at floor/eyes squinted/lips pooched" GROOVE. Kelly price: beautiful FULL voice, clean, & steady, making her runs so easy to hear. Chaka Khan 😂😂😂😂, the "hold back queen, but, ooops, 😁 😁 here take that, it just happened to drop out my mouth" 😂😂😂. She rearranged these vocals more than ever on this song. She was DOING alot of amazing vocal technique subtleties, which I love. Amazing performance by both and that band.

Great points for sure. Singers like Chaka are connected with the improvisational character of true jazz musicians. It's no suprise that Chaka is a guest vocalist on numerous artist's projects and was loved by Miles, Dizzy, and many others in the Jazz circles.
I love how Chaka always brings out the best in her singing partner, in this case, the Kelly Price, who in her own respect is an amazing talent. Never trying to be the star. But by any measure, Chaka Khan is a STAR. Reminds of how Ella Fitzgerald gives Joe Pass or Duke Ellington the space to have their own moments on stage & performances. Such incredible, God-given talent with that much class and grace is truly RARE. By the way, the "whew" in the end just says it all. No pun intended. :)
I still have the VHS with this performance on it, and more than ten years later - this duet STILL takes my breath away. - shows why this pairing was one of the BEST Motown Live (or any music entertainment show) showcased.
