Nice ! I tried 3S with a XL5-HV in a 4-TEC with the brushed 12T Titan, What killed the motor was not the heat, but the output bushing was gone in 10 minutes 😆. Keep it lubricated well and it might last !
So, regarding the motor surviving, the Titan 12T is just a 6v Johnson 550. We use these on 12lb and even some 30lb combat robots and run them on 4 or even 6S without issue. Granted, they're not getting constant current, we only run for 3 minutes, and it's with twice as short of a gear ratio (typically around 16:1). But that's still quite a bit of voltage for something that's supposed to be only rated for 6v.
This was my first hobby grade rc. Yes... the wing is that effective. Also, there's almost no weight in the front. That's another reason that it pushes so horribly in the corners. I never tried trimming my wing, I just took it off. I have a 5' ditch I jump off & mine flies better without the wing.
@@ExocagedRC ESC fan Holmes hobby 12 turn trailmaster sport that thing would probably go for a while running 3s them proline paddles for the mini E-Revo would probably work pretty good on that I've been wanting it sent for mine bandit although I don't drive my bandit much but it is a fun little car

The brushed Traxxas Bandit. What a tank. My son won a A Main with one when he was still 4 years old. Was it fast? Faster than the the other Outlaw 2wd 10th scale rigs? Hell no. They could do 3 laps for every one of his. But they all broke by the second lap and he made 4 before the clock ran out! Almost every Traxxas vehicle has sadly left rear toe adjustment out of the tuning possibilities. 3s VXL Bandits doing close to 70 aren't as bomb proof, but if you keep the battery and motor limits sane, you could have a great low buck spec class. Cheap to get into and cheap to maintain? Perfect. If I were you? I'd allow for some suspension, wheel and tire, and body mods. 3s XL5s and stock motors only. Rx and servo mods ok. The motors are cheap enough that even if you miss on the gearing and burn one down? Your not out much. That will keep it a drivers race if you hold your racers to a spec motor/ESC and chassis. I'd rather fly RC planes than get back into Outlaw RC monster truck racing. Planes break less. I don't even want to race RC anymore, but a low buck, stock spec class is the only way I'd get back in. The Bandit would be great for that. Just keep a tight lid on allowed mods.
Great points. I’ve got bearings and rpm towers along with Exotech rear shafts. That’s pretty much it for mods for me. I do want to try some different motors for it. I may do a spec brushed motor. A cheap Trailmaster 12t by Holmes would be nice.
I have several super modded brushed motors from 20 yrs ago that would shame today's BL motors!😁 Speed gems, & some worth $100's today (but not for sale).
I was thinking 3S isn't gonna work, but you know what your doing, the motor will last I've been running a 3S XL-5 for a long time in our bandit and no issues....we actually love the bandits tons of fun and cheap....👍👍
Draw straight line back of wing & 1/2 " down from top of wing . Now , do straight line around side panels of wing and cut all that excess off. Less drag Helped my street runs on a vxl
Water brake in the motor , clear all excess grease out of the tranny , switch to ball bearings with light oil in them. Stock servo is good but switch the gears to metal ( theres a kit).
the Typhoons are awesome no doubt but it's just a different experience. There's something about 2wd buggies that are a lot of fun in a different kind of way
Bought a Bandit for my kids. Brushed and 8.4 Nimh. Works OK but a bit on the slow side. But that means less parts for me to buy :) The wing gives a lot of downforce and it flies much better without.

Keeping things box stock is very difficult, certain parts need to be better for durability. Brushed and 2S is limit enough especially on the loose fluffy sand track I have. It will be tonight to get 2S to clear it all with the drag of the sand.

you might want to put stiffer springs in the rear to help front end push
Probably more of a weight issue being the motor, transmission, esc, and everything heavy in the rear
