    the alcohol is fine in the food, when it cooks it gets rid of the alcohol content and it gives really good flavor, you could always do half stock half beer if you were concerned

    • @mrswallace6294
      @mrswallace6294 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      There could still be traces of alcohol unless it's simmered for 3+ hours. WIth kids with FAS, it's just best to do away with alcohol all together imo

    • @tinarosenberg5781

      It's actually a myth that all the alcohol cook's about 25 percent stays in they've done research on it

      I did not realize that! That indeed is something to consider. In my home I do cook with the alcohol, it just adds a lot of flavor but when you have kids with FAS you may not want to try!
      By the way a do my cooking of stews in the slow-cooker for at least 8 hours!

    I think your issue with the peeler is your technique. Cup the potato in the palm of your left hand, the peel along the potato from the end near you to the end away from you. I do it over the sink so I can peel in a downward motion. Then your left hand can rotate the potato as you go. If you can get the technique down, it really is faster and easier. Written directions just for you, Alicia 😉

    You should take turns and have one child help you cook. It will teach them a skill they will need in the future, it’s a bonding experience, and it will help you out. I did this with my daughters and was fun for both of us, and now they know how to cook as adults. ❤

    Next time you’re at the grocery store, look for the Oxo potato peeler. It’s great and will peel the potato. Having a sharp peeler makes the job easier, like sharp knives and as you have just seen - metal pans versus aluminum pans. Having the right tool makes your job easier.

  • @lindahallman5342
    @lindahallman5342 ปีที่แล้ว +44

    😂😂 the peeling of the potatoes had me 💀 First you need a sharp peeler and then peel in long strokes from top to bottom of the potatoes. It will take like 5 seconds to peel. You could even have one of the kids peel for you while you do other prep to help conserve time. That’s what I’ve always done.

    FYI you need to take the leaves off of the thyme just pull backwards the stems are to fibrous to digest it will cause stomach aches just pull the leaves off and chop the leaves or put them all in there on the stems and then pull the stems out at the end either way never serve stems of time

  • @polinag2649
    @polinag2649 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    A potato peeler goes both ways, up and down. Not just down. Move it up and down, it’ll work way better. That’s why it swivels.

    If you are ever frying with butter, just use a 50/50 blend of a low smoke point oil (like peanut or grape seed oil) and you’ll get all the delicious goodness of the butter taste and it won’t burn ♥️

  • @AKA-Nana
    @AKA-Nana ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I mean this in the kindest way, but I want so badly to send you a proper knife to chop vegetables with lol. If you have a sharp blade and use the part closest to the handle, your food won’t fly away or slip off the cutting board. The technique is easy to learn. Also, investing in a Boos block cutting board is a lifetime investment. The plastic ones are actually dangerous for cutting yourself. Just some tips, not ant judgements

    Hi Alicia,
    I think you should pick a nail colour from your wedding day, maybe inspired by the bridesmaid dresses or the flowers from your bouquet, or maybe another colour that represents something that is meaningful to Josh and you. The colour you wore on your first date or on your engagement maybe? I think little touches like that can be really romantic.

    Your idea of a week of your personal favorite recipes, is a fantastic thought! At the end of the week you could have everyone rate them just 1. 2. or 3. Like , so so, or dislike. Don’t make it difficult w/ more choices. Then take a poll. This could be great content. You could then have Chef’s choice days, or nights. Roll w/ it.

    Hi Alicia
    Those seem to be a new crop of potatoes...almost impossible to use a peeler. People usually just scrub them and then cook them.
    For mashed potatoes, you need a thick-skinned potato, then you can easily use a peeler.
    Russet or Yukon Gold varieties are good for mashed potatoes.

    I don't often watch your dinner cooking video, but I thought well this is close to home. I'm a Dutchie and Belgium is beneath my country. To be honest, this was way too cringy to watch. Not knowing how to peel potato's, or how to cut leek. You threw so much away. And those french fries were not authentic Belgian fries. Do you even know that cooking beer or wine, the alcohol evaporates ? The taste of the wine and beer are essential to the food.

    Alicia, twoje obieranie ziemniaków mnie zmęczyło... obierek jest więcej niż ziemniaków w garnku. Obieraczką jest wygodnie, cienko, ale obierając do siebie a nie od siebie... Pozdrawiam. Uwielbiam ziemniaki pod każdą postacią i obieram kilka razy w tygodniu.

    ❤❤❤ Love these videos!!! You are great!! Greetings from Norway. Maybe try Norwegian food one time? Lamb in cabbage in the slow cooker ps. don`t eat the whole peppercorns that are in there. Just pick them out. Meat balls in brown gravy with potetos, pea stew, and cranberrie jam on the side. And Queen Maud dessert. Enjoy :-) Of course there is a lot of seafood recipies to :-)

    Yes you are correct on how you removed the beards from the mussels just remember if they are all ready open before you cook them throw them out that means they are spoiled dead no good could make u sick 🤢
