The "R" class was originally designed as an express passenger loco to replace the ageing "A2" class, but came into service at the very start of "Dieselisation", and actually only had a short time in this role. They saw most service in secondary duties. Now, if we could only get H220 back on the rails, that would be something!
This is actually in NSW, north of Sydney, rather than in Victoria. This locomotive was gauge converted to run in NSW, and this was it’s relaunch following the overhaul.
