I thoroughly enjoyed this. Excellent quality! As an American who'd never really seen anything like this before, I can certainly understand why the beautiful #3801 is so beloved. She flies!
She was on jogging there, the race was limited to 45mph. 3801 and the R class are express passenger engines, true thoroughbreds and could easily do 70-80mph. The Garrett and 59 class were heavy goods engines.
It’s not really a race, just a spectacle. It’s not the first either, there was one in Victoria when Flying Scotsman was here in 1988. Not sure if 3801 was in it, I know she was in VIC. at that time. It was filmed.
Some of the best footage of this race & 3801 doing what it does best. Wow you need to get a watermark on this video, sadly there are many out there online who will steal your content and make easy money. Sadly these days you can't trust anyone
Thanks mate! I prefer not to have to watermark if I can, as I think it distracts from the viewing experience. I have been fortunate so far, anyone wanting to use my footage has asked first which is great.
@@greatworldwiderailwaysYou said "I have been fortunate so far" yeah I use to think like that. My simple advice is protect your works. Free advice from someone who's had endless people rip me off.
Question: is it an actual race or a 'race' by title only? It doesn't seem to look like one as the engines speed up and slow down as they please. Figured 3801 and R766 would smoke the other two.
Cool video! If it was a real race the 38 class would leave the others for dead on a relatively flat track grade like this. I remember going on the train race years ago when it was just 3830 against the Tiger moth. She got going very quick with the carriages pitching side to side, not having to slow down for other trains to catch up. That was a fun time and scary at the same time haha. I think that was the last time 3830 was part of steamfest 😢.
Yeah true, though R766 would give it some serious comp. The speed between the two is very similar. Very envious you got to ride with 3830, which is my favourite 38 engine. Still have a model of it.
i don't know much about any trains that aren't Melbourne electric multiple units, but is this in Australia? i saw VR R class, seems vaguely familiar, and i've heard of Hunter Valley before, just sanity checking that VR is Victorian Railways
@@railroadsdownunder8200 because 3801 was in last basically the entire race and it won how does that work honestly. The winner of the race should’ve been R766
There's something mesmerizing about watching steam locomotives work. I wish I could be there.
Great to see an awesome event like this! A very rare happening.
I think it happens every year or second year now
First time time with R766 great to see!

Thanks! She is certainly a wonderful locomotive!

There has been one almost every year since steamfest started

@@trackandfieldarchive I've refilled R766 with water before but never ridden behind her. Would be good to do one day!
@@acs108 I'm stoked that they reconfigured a Hudson to NSW standard guage. So badly want to take a trip on it now!!
Now that's a sight you don't see everyday
#3801 is so God dam stunning
As a race...i think r class would win.....its driving wheels are huge.
Very close between R766 and 3801. The speed is similar between them.

It is. R766 was purchased by NSW and converted to standard guage.
Will you won't you take me to the railway show?
Knowing I was there that exact day to me is crazy
Would i be avle to use some of your footage for a video im making please 😊

All you need is to boil water and look what happens.
@@jonathanarmstrong7508 they're not actual races, they're done for the fun of it plus the trains still have to follow signals and speed limits
