I'm beginning to think T. Rex were one of the greatest bands to come out of the 70s. They still seem so fresh and modern, while all the other great bands from the era, while still great, sound specific to that era. Great band.

I could not agree more, with you, dear Timothy.
There was only ever one Marc Bolan.
      Marc, had it all.
      The marvellous
      looks, the great
personality, the get up and go.
The lot. He worked, so very, very hard, to reach the top, and he and his band mates, did just that.
But, people are so very fickle. Not all of us, thankfully. ❤️ ❤️
      My Precious
      Mum & Dad, were
T-rex fans, back in the day, which was fab, because I was fortunate enough, to
grow up, from a very early age, listening, to and very much enjoying, T-rex.
I also, fell in love with Marc, I have to admit,
      from a very tender age.
      A very long time ago.
I am an old lady of 58 years now, but, i still
      Absolutely adore Marc
      and T-rex.
      ❤️🌸❤️🌸❤️
      Kim. 🙂

Marc Bolan was an extremely sensitive soul (too sensitive for this world), a musical genius (I am using this often abused word accurately) .. he made the guitar sing .. he had a mystical dimension within .. he had extremely good energy spiritually .. he was one of a kind .. his works have a wonderful vibrancy, aliveness, vividness .. he left humanity a great and timeless gift. He was one of the greats.

Look no further than the opening line of 'Solid Gold Easy Action,' a single-only release that eventually showed up on the same year's 'Great Hits' compilation. "Life is the same and it always will be / Easy as picking foxes from a tree," Bolan sings as typically glammy guitars spill out a riff. Turns out that the license plate on the car that Bolan was killed in on Sept. 16, 1977, was "FOX 661L." And oh yeah, it was wrapped around a tree.

I love T.Rex. Electric Warrior is probably in my top 3 of greatest albums of all-time. I love "Jeepster" too. However, a few days ago, I watched a documentary on T.Rex. I was surprised to learn that the main riff in "Jeepster", as well as some of the lyrics, were taken from Howlin' Wolf's "You'll Be Mine". I still love "Jeepster" though.

In the US, the only T Rex song most people were familiar with was the single "Bang a Gong" which was released here. I was fortunate enough to have a friend who introduced me to the "Electric Warrior" album, and I will always be grateful for that, because I loved it immediately. I bought it shortly after and played it constantly. I never understood why they didn't release another single from that album here, in my opinion "Bang a Gong" wasn't even the best song on the album. What a great band!

Metal Guru was a hit, too (at least in the Seattle area). And, Get It On was THE party song during the early to mid-seventies - it was a MONSTER hit. Even though T.Rex didn't achieve the same degree of fame here in the US as in Europe, I think it's important to remember that those records sold based solely on the quality of the music because most of us had no idea what the group was about visually, and that was a huge factor in their success in England. How could one look like Marc Bolan and not have it affect sales? I saw him for the first time on TH-cam about five years ago and was amazed. If he had received the proper representation here things would have been much different.

    • @StrictlyMystic
      @StrictlyMystic 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Having been a teen 'back then' I must respectfully disagree with you. Bolan's visual exposure in the US during his peak was virtually nonexistent. The album covers were about all that was available. By the time he was on DK's Rock Concert he was - sadly - on the fast-track downhill. As we now can see courtesy of TH-cam, he was magical during his prime.

This song was released in the month of my 11th birthday and there is no one like Marc Bolan. And when I was heading off to catholic private girls school the months to follow his songs kept me going.. He was my first crush and these songs still sound as new as they did when they first came out :)

Just missed being consciously aware of the 1960s as it happened, when I woke into sentient child consciousness around 1971 T Rex were the first initiation into music and what being a 'star' is and to this day Marc Bolan is still the template of what a 'star' is for me.

+Mic Beefstick So did I, during T.Rex's German Tour in February 1973, when I was 13 years old.My first Live concert. Considering that Marc Bolan was my one and only idol back then, it's hard to explain my emotional state when I first heard about them showing up in my hometown. T.Rex was everything to me then and when they finally came on stage, I must have lost it right there and then since I don't remember very much of that evening from that point onwards...
