    I used to play AiF to my oranda, Tarik. We would revel within the timbre of the gut-wrenching guitar while taking refuge in the ever-so-human lyrics. “I’m so mad this summer. I’m so sad this summer”, lines that transcend societal barriers and connect us to our most primal being. Five months ago, we lost Tarik. Whether it’s nostalgia or the simple desire to feel anything other than suffering, I find myself constantly coming back to the music of AiF. It’s the only thing that makes me human anymore.
    Rest In Peace Tarik. May the gales of August guide you to eternal happiness.

    I was sitting in my hot tub, enjoying the bubbles, when my wife's kid started playing this song on his step sister's Bose Wave IV. Took me right back to the summer of '98. Back when me and my best friend Marty would hop into my Uncle Jeff's Cavalier, throw on MXPX, and rip on over to Swiss Chalet to split half a bird. 3 years away from graduation and a full 8 years from the Bose Wave II, we were high on life and ready for whatever. I remember pulling up in that beato-up ford baker van they gave me (that thing did even have an AUX jack) to replace fluorescent tubs at this dealer ship, the place was abandoned, half of the windows broken, and in the middle of the half darken show room these kids, playing their hearts away.

      @MarcosElMalo2 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@mj_dj But at what cost? You don’t think this sounds over-produced? The rough around the edges sound of their shows and the demo tapes was kind of their hallmark. They’ve had opportunities to sell out and they used to thumb their noses at mainstream success and the record label guys with their hot tub parties in the Hollywood Hills.
      Anyway, I used to be really into AIF but I kind of grew out of them. Back in the day I wrote and published a AIF ‘Zine called Murder Is Sad? Maybe you saw it? It was supposed to be about the local punk scene, but I got pretty obsessed with the band. I was proud that I was into them before everybody else.
      I was so damn proud when I heard they told Edgar Wright to GTFO. Did you know that Scott Pilgrim is basically based on AIF? That film is a travesty without the band, and I’m so glad they refused to participate or cooperate with Wright. Of course, he made the movie anyway and didn’t give the band any credit.
      In a way, I feel very protective about AIF. I don’t want them to be popular. Their music is special and it’s not meant for everyone. Especially newer fans. Ugh, I hate new fans. New fans just don’t get August Is Falling and what they mean to me personally.

      @@MarcosElMalo2 I think I caught some copies of Murder Is Sad? back when I still frequented all the boards, I thought you guys really had something going there and turned me on to a lot of good stuff I wouldn't have heard otherwise!
      And I agree, they do sound more polished and "main-stream" (ugh) than they did back way back when, but I'm holding out hope that this song is just an outlier because it's the lead single (produced by some big shot producer who probably charged an arm and a leg for it) and the rest of the EP will be much rougher and more personal just like the old stuff.
      Also, they were right to show Wright the door, Baby Driver was a stinker and not a little one.

    I have fond memories driving around my hometown late a night, windows down, August Is Falling blasting on the CD player, and flipping the bird to anyone we saw walking down the street. AIF was my soundtrack to feeling young and reckless. I cried when I saw them play at my VFW hall. I put one of their stickers on my wallet, showed it to their bass player and said they should start selling wallets. When I saw them a year later - they started selling wallets! And they gave me one for free!!! Will love these guys until the day I die.

We played at Pascack Valley High School auditorium, they opened up for Scary Kids Scaring Kids. Trevor is such a sick guitar player and lyricist. Trevor... :( so great to see you back on the road.
    Maybe someday we can make a DOODD X AiF collab.
    Trevor, you definitely remember me, I was the guy with the 7-string bass tuned to drop-C. Me and my bandmates also had a watergun fight backstage that left a lot of bands unable to use their equipment. I remember Trevor reaching our to the local Episcopalian church for their organ to use for the show instead of their Rhodes that we accidentally broke (Sorry Trevor.... :( )
    Turned out to be a great show anyway. We played every instrument through the only PA that the the gym had. Headiest tonality you've ever heard....

    This is crazy... A buddy of mine was huge into these guys back in the late 2000s and he dragged me to a concert of theirs at thd Bug Jar in Rochester, NY. It was a nasty winter night and there were a dozen people who made it out to the show. I never heard AIF before that night and they rocked so fucking hard.
    One of the dozen people there was the bouncer for the Bug Jar. His name was Gerry Geralds, and he was a staple at these small shows to card everyone and watch the merch tables. The bartenders used to call him Big Tom. No idea why, but if I ever went to a show I'd see Big Tom at the door to card us. Dude was drenched in sweat and after the show, he immediately went up to AIF and wanted to be their roadie. The next time I went to a show to see Joywave at the Bug Jar, there was a new bouncer. It wasn't Big Tom Gerry Geralds. I guess he really did leave with AIF and got to tour around with them. It was really cool to see BTGG tributed in this video. I'm sure he meant a lot to the band because he meant so much to everyone else who knew him.
