My husband and I have been wanting to do this for 5 years. Your video was not only personable, straightforward but very informative. You nailed everything we wanted to know. All questions answered. Thank you for this great shakedown on what it takes to do this amazing trail.
I saw this video while planning a trip for this upcoming summer (2023). Your videos are great, and I subscribed. I retire in two years and I'm working/learning about backpacking to do the AT in 2025. Thanks for the detailed information.
Glad you found it helpful! I have thru hiked the AT (2018), but didn’t do a video series on it at the time. I kept a trail journal which you can read at unfetteredfootsteps.com if that is helpful. My latest video on how much a thru hike costs may be helpful from a budgeting perspective. I hope you have a great hike and what a great retirement gift!
Enjoyable video. Thanks for making it! Through my earlier research, I thought the only place to leave a resupply cache was at Whitewater Falls. I purchased a locking ammo can from Amazon for that purpose. But I see somebody mentioning Bad Creek here in the comments. I'll have to check that out. I'm tentatively planning a thru-hike the end of this month or early November, going west to east.
This Past Oct. (24-31) we did an 8 day through hike Oconee to table Rock. from Thompson creek campsite through round Mt. was Dry. got water at whitewater bridge area next day. an option is leave a car (we did) at Bad creek Access (for resupply etc.) Taz recommended. Also climbing from this direction is more manageable (heartbreak ridge) in my opinion. This was my first backpacking adventure. My 2 cents make sure to be prepared for rain (wet feet) carry electrolytes (hydration balance) carry a tent pole splint (Amazon) ( a hiker broke one day 3 of his 10 day allotted hike) he reported back to me My duct tape I gave him sufficed. but a splint would be ideal.
Hi Cody. Occasionally that plugin seems to fail, or things get stuck in the junk folder. I found your email in the download logs and went ahead and emailed you a zip file with the GPX files in it. Have a great hike!
@@recklessvolk Hi. If you drop me a note via the contact form on my website with the files you need I’ll email them to you. I am not sure why the plugin isn’t working sometimes.
Sorry you're having challenges listening to the video. The balance between music and voice should be ok. I test this for each video. The background music should be very quiet in relation to the voice. It may be that you have a broken speaker in your laptop or headphones. Sometimes when they start to go they only feed in part of the audio. I had a pair of headphones I used for running do this. Anyway, hope you get the info you need.

You should look into the auger hole trail. The hidden waterfalls are worth it. Good luck man.
I’ll check it out - thanks!
Awesome video
Thank you Carl!

I'd love to listen to the video but the background music is too much to listen to with your commentary
