  • Scraping into the last few minutes of Zelda Month for 2015, here's an atmospheric electronic prayer for you. One of my friends described the sound as being like a glass-harmonica, which was pretty much the vibe I was shooting for!
    This track uses patch 21 of the inbuilt sounds of the Akai EWI 4000s. Audio editing (COPIOUS REVERB) done in Audacity.

    spot on, as always my friend. Gives me chills. I wish there were five of you, in a cathedral, so we could hear this live with that kind of reverb.

    This music was the first time I felt scared in a Zelda game, just because of the creepy sanctuary music. Great cover, as always👍

      +Dan2227 Thanks a lot mate! There's something oddly serene about it to me, but definitely with a creepy vibe :)

    From start to finish it has that feeling of dread like in the original version. Splendid work! It really puts in perspective when seeing the video for yourself with everything performed.

      +Toxodentrail Thanks a lot mate! I made a few small changes from the version I shared in the Gamelark chat too - some envelope work and adding another layer of the dry melodic lines in the intro to give them some clarity. I thought this would be easy and it turned out to be surprisingly tricky to make work (which I'm finding to be a running theme making covers!)

      +gabocarina96 Thanks heaps mate! I was trying to pick something for this that was in the style of some of the other music I've been recording lately :) And yeah, isn't it crazy to consider it came out in 1991? Such an epic game for the time!

      +PyjamaPants Thanks a lot Julia :) It's funny, the comments are a little divided between 'this is chill and relaxing' and 'this is tense and scary'. I guess open 5ths and V7b9 are whatever people want them to be!

    • @JuliaHenderson
      @JuliaHenderson 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Soundole VGM Covers It is haunting, for sure, but not in a tense way (for me at least). It is true that open fifths can be interpreted either way, which is why they're so great!!

    I used to hang out in the sanctuary way longer that necessary just to listen to this tune. I love the way you resolved the ending; you found the perfect chord and executed it perfectly with those fades.
    And just one possible suggestion (feel free to ignore): Capturing the game footage in widescreen is stretching it horizontally. I'm sure no one minds, and I haven't before, but for some reason in this particular video the stretch distracted me a little.

    • @Soundole
      @Soundole  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +keyglyph Thanks Emily! It felt appropriate to resolve not onto major or minor but to just let a hollow 5th between several registers ring out :) I'm with you about the stretch, but I'm kind of torn! If I maintain aspect ratio, there's blank space which looks a little untidy. If I export to 4:3, TH-cam won't allow the export to HD, which really affects the sound. When the screen is in the middle, it's easy keep the aspect ratio, but when I'm doing 3-5 channels, not so much. Do you think it would look okay if I used a faded out playback of the video in the gaps next to it? Or would it still look better to keep some black bars at the sides? I did that for my Undertale cover (really didn't want to stretch that!) and no one seemed to mind...what do you think?

    • @keyglyph
      @keyglyph 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Soundole VGM Covers Bleh, it sounds like it's too much trouble to worry about! I will say though that I've spent so much time with those black pillars on either side of my classic games that it doesn't look sloppy to me. It's just... life. :)
      My guess is that having images, moving or otherwise, in the pillars might be even more distracting, but it would really depend on how you did it. I suppose if I had to vote one way or another in general, though, I'd say that not all negative space necessarily needs to be filled. It's good to have chillspace.
      But you just gotta do what feels right to you!

      All good! Next time I've got a track of this density I'll leave some black space and you can tell me what you think :)

    You've done such a brilliant job doing your video production! Hope you can record more video clips and upload it on TH-cam in the near future!
    Let me ask you 3 questions.
    1. How often do you play the game of A Link to the Past?
    2. What's your favorite level of A Link to the Past?
    3. For your video production, why did you want to put the background of the video game photos to make it more attractive to the game?

    • @Soundole
      @Soundole  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +David Ren (davidrenmusic) Thanks David! I haven't played a Link to the Past for probably almost ten years, so my memory is a bit hazy, I'd have trouble picking out a favourite dungeon or area! For the backgrounds, I wanted a neutral sort of image that I'd stand out against, while also being somewhat unique, and as far as I know, I don't think there are many (if any) cover artists using this exact sort of visual presentation at the moment. Thanks for watching!

      +Proto Legacy Yeah! I am not that familiar with Soulblazer, but I would love to cover 'Sky Palace' from Actraiser. I've already done 'Birth of the People' aaaages ago too. I'll need to have a listen to the Soulblazer OST!

      +Stryke Thanks a lot man! That track is super full on - I'd probably need to get VSTs to cover harp, strings, timpani, not to mention percussion! But it's a really cool track that I still wouldn't mind getting around to...maybe for a collab sometime? Thanks for listening :)

    what fingering do you use? do they have a clarinet option? i would use saxophone but it looks like you dont play sax

    • @Soundole
      @Soundole  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've played saxophone in the past, but I'm using the default EWI fingering mode. It feels similar enough to existing winds for me :)
