I definitely got into making covers by trying to emulate those original system sounds! In fact, I think on some of my very early video I was using some patches that sounded even more chiptuney, because I was trying very much for replication.

Soundole, I'm a musician and I'm wanting to learn as many instruments as I can. I'm already decent at guitar, and great at cello, piano, and harmonica. Would an EWI be a good choice for learning a woodwind instrument?
+SleightTrain Hi mate! It depends on what you're looking for. There's a lot of skill transfer between clarinet, saxophone, recorder, and EWI (and maybe even partially flute). The EWI removes any barriers related to fucking around with reeds or having to worry about intonation, but it does demand that fork fingerings (where fingers are simultaneously going up and down) are executed a little bit more snappily than on acoustic winds. Most settings are adjustable though, which should ease you in - breath pressure and fingering change speed are both adjustable. My biggest concern would simply be that there's stuff you can get away with on the EWI that you can't get away with on acoustic winds - it never really forces you to learn to breathe and play openly, which is an absolute requisite of getting a decent and stable sound on any acoustic wind instrument. Despite that, it's almost certainly the only wind instrument where you can get a top of the range professional model for a little over $1000. I'd be very keen to hear what your impressions are approaching it from a musically literate but non-wind background!
