I am glad someone made a video like this. It’s about being realistic as to your needs. I sold GD toy haulers RVs for years and own one myself. It’s not the type of unit a person unless a professional driver should start with as they are beasts. I had the advantage to meet many RVs over the years and your observations and experiences are spot on.
Thank you glad you liked it! We knew there was no way we could justify something like this unless we were fulltime! If we just went out a few times a year we would likely be in something way smaller!
It is so true that the matresses you get in even the biggest Toy Haulers and Trailers are terrible! We have a Winabego bunkhouse trailer and that mattress was sooooo bad i was going to replace it but i decided it was worth it to buy an $85 3” memory foam topper to see if it could be saved. WOW! What a difference. Save yourself $1-2K and just get the topper, best mattress we have had anywhere.
Another great video! That tent looks pretty awesome, especially if you're a kid (or a dog - lol). Kevin, kudos for the way you present your commercials, you integrate them so well into the days' content that I don't even skip over it :-).
Thank you! It didn't feel like a commercial today because it wasn't one! I was just talking about how we had 3 mattresses that needed to be upgraded and what we did! I also used that to segway into our Mattress Giveaway contest that is going on!
We had to have a king bed and it’s amazing, so is the residential fridge with ice maker. Thought I needed a central vacuum, nope, never used it. Dyson cordless does the trick!
We love our king bed, wish we had an ice maker! We use the central vac just for cleaning up what we sweep! The cordless vac we have does all the other cleaning around the RV!
That was well done we went from 30 ft travel trailer back to camper with pullout and now back to 30 fifth wheel. The most important is polar package, air and awning. Found with camper and dogs to small plus we seem to get evacuated even year by wild fires enjoy your travels this week
Thank you! Glad you liked it! We would never have something this big if we only took a few trips a year! But since we are fulltime this thing eventually starts to feel small!
We are FT in a 40’ Class A Newmar Mountain Aire. We thought we need a security system but never use it as a security system. More for monitoring pets. Like: big fuel tank - can be more selective on when and where to get fuel. Get 7 MPG, not as good as you but can get about 1200 miles on a tank. No major issues in the last 1.5 years but always tinkering with something.
We always say the adventure in RVing is the RV! If you travel and use the rig there will always be something to tinker with! I bet that thing is not very fun when it is time to fill it up, I already don't like it with only a 48 gallon tank!
We have a 36’ class A and tow a Grand Cherokee. Love the room inside, very comfortable. Just replaced the water pump, the fuel pump on the generator and the water valve for the ice maker. All fun of owning a RV!
I live FT in a 24’ Class C RV. My “must haves” were basic: a shower and toilet. I thought the oven was cool, but have only used it twice in 1 1/2 years. The biggest pain is the main Queen bed. It’s a slide out. So if I pull into a rest stop, truck stock or Walmart for the night, I have to sleep in the bed over the cab. Which is usually filled with misc. stuff.
Kevin, awesome video and I am subscribed. I enjoy your videos immensely. I am just getting into the RV thing and am in the exploratory/dreaming/fantasy phase. I am def into the TH (for my goldwing motorcycle) and in this video I noticed that your rig has the EXACT floor plan of what I have been looking at which is the Brinkley G3500. I am well aware that the Brinkley boys came from Grand Design. I'm curious, is your garage 11 ft or 16 ft?
Thank you so much, we are glad you enjoy the videos! Our garage is 13'6"! We love the Brinkleys and think they are doing everything right, or at least everything we don't like so much about ours they do a better job on theirs!
Loved your video. My husband and I watch ALL of your videos. Yes, If it sits for months at a time, you're going to have problems. We are getting ready to take our 36ft 5th wheel across the country. While getting it ready to go, we have had to do a lot of extra work because it has been stored for months. We found out that one of our slide outs shifted forward and also tilted toward the back slightly causing its own problems. Luckily it was the side with the sofa and table and not the one with all the appliances, so it was easier to push back into place. Fingers crossed that all goes well during the trip. You guys are a joy to watch.
Thank you we are glad you enjoy the content! We have always wondered what happens to all those RV's that get put in storage for months at a time! Do they have more or less problems? We have tons of problems but we live and travel fulltime so we expect there to be more things to repair! Hope you have a great trip!
oh, I love LOVE the tent for the back patio. That works super, it can expand the play area, heck, if mom wants to just watch kids play she can park a lawn chair back there, get sun and fresh air, and watch the kids play. I can see why you didn't use the area before, but the tent solves everything. Great Addition!
Mine is a KZ Venom 3313TK. It's 42 feet long Toy Hauler and use the garage to move my golf cart. My favorite part is that its max weight is 16k and empty at 12,500. Without the golf cart, I am at 15k. With the golf cart, I am right at 16k. My truck is a single 3500 dramax Allison. Perfect weight for that truck.
Thats awesome! We looked at some of the two axle models but it always came back to we needed the most capacity being fulltime! That huge pass through storage was a major box we had to have!
I get it. Im a 3-day camping family lol. We may go full time in the near future and looking at your model but the Solitude. Basically no garage and all living but the same size as yours. Its max weight is 16,800. @@PavingNewPaths
That was a sweet looking red RAM in the background at the 4:53 mark 😂😂. Funny thing, last trip my wife asked if it's difficult pulling the fifth wheel. I told her the worst part of our journeys is the 3 miles between our house and highway because the backroad lanes are so skinny with steep hills, and have a couple tight turns (one turning onto a steep hill). I can relax a little once we get to the highways and I have our route planned using RV Trip Planner with stops every 2-3 hours.
Wife had to have the mid bunk model with 2 couches in the living room for entertaining. I wanted a rear bunk room with multiple bunks with an outdoor kitchen (fridge and sink). I lost🤷...
We have a 351M toy hauler with bath and a half. We both have motorcycles so that was my husbands main reason for the toy hauler. I on the other hand wanted a place for my kids and grands. 😊 We are retired so we make 1-2 trips per year, 1000 or more miles away and then some local camping. We have the water capacity and generator to dry camp at NASCAR tracks but usually stay at full hook-up sites on the way to and from each event. I plan 9 months to 1 year out for each trip and call the day of for overnight stays usually close to the freeway on the way there and back. If I had to do it over I think I’d like a 5er at 35’ and not as heavy as the 38’ 14000lb beast we have now. It has served us well and I love using the patio every chance I can get but we’re getting older so we shall see what the future holds. Love your videos .
We can't wait to start doing NASCAR events, we are really excited to get one of those planned! We love everything about this RV but there are challenges with owning something this big! We are going to for sure be using the rear deck more often now with the tent!
I felt your pain with that tent. Your lively sense of humor while the "Supervisor" filmed made me laugh. I hope my wife never sees this video. Right now she just wants a stand alone screen house.
My family travels in tent trailer (or pop up camper) and it's tons of fun for us. We got a 4-6 times a year and its perfect for a us being a family of six and the trailer is just perfect for a van to tow. It also takes about 40 minutes for a campsite to be fully set up which is great compared to when we did tenting. The only downside to it is that some of the best features like the heated mattress require plug in campgrounds which we normally don't go to.
We think if we just did a few trips a year we would be much smaller and quicker to set up and tear down! If we are in a hurry we can get the RV from set up to leaving the campground in about 1 hours! but normally its more like 2 and usually 2 hours to set up!
Hi folks, Alecia, gets yourself a ' Bug-a-Salt '. Best fly swatter ever. An air action pump shot gun style fly eliminator. Load the hopper with table salt and you can hit a fly anywhere, can knock them off the far rim of a glass and just get a pinch of salt to sweep up plus fly. Best 50 bucks I've spent in a while. Take Care, Safe Travels
Captain America does it again. Awesome job. You guys r so fun to watch, I just love ur family. Thanks for being so real & sharing ur journey of life. ✌️😁.
We have a 2021 397TH and you did a great job! We are a retired couple, so we use it a little different than you and we're half timer's, we do go home once in a while. The garage is great and so versatile. We haul our toy, use it for an office, guest room (with full bath) and an entertainment room. It is hard to find a place to use the patio, I really like to get backed up to a lake! Sitting out there with a beverage is hard to beat. Glad you measured your rig, I guesstimated ours and was off a foot, I thought it was probably 63 feet. If I had it to do over again, would I buy it? Yes, yes I would.
Thank you! We love that the garage can be whatever you want it to be! Unless you get the biggest most expensive pull thru it is very had to get a place that you can have the back door down! I wasn't sure how long it was just knew I need 70 ft sites to enjoy the whole thing!
Some of the campgrounds we've been to need to get a new measuring tape, we've been in sites that are advertised as 75 ft and they are not! I think they are measuring an angled site diagonally to get the biggest measurement they can. The Rascals! @@PavingNewPaths
I really wanted to do a build in an 18 ft Toyhauler, but instead bought a 19ft 2000 Mallard and I love everything about it. It tows like a dream behind my 2004 Tahoe. My favorite thing is the open layout, and least favorites are the manual canopy and older frig. Going to add 400W of solar, switch to 12vfrig, and do solar hotwater since I mostly boondock.
Great one Kevin! We love our Winnebago Horizon 42 Q because: 1. Size and floorplan 2. The Maxum Chassis ride 3. The Modern interior What we don’t like 1. Need to plan way in advance 2. Limited camping sites 3. Maintenance costs are super high $$$$ but, worth it. We knew what we wanted because we had 3 motorhomes in the past 25 yrs which really helps when you buy that last one. Where heading out for a 6 week fall trip in September
Thanks! The only thing I think we would change on the interior for ours is we didn't need the 2nd Fullsize bath! As far as the cons its the same as you, so much planning, limited sites, and maintenance cost!
Biggest problem I've found in shopping for toy haulers is that I can't find one that'll fit two ATVs in the garage. One SXS may fit, two ATVs won't on every one I've seen. Really stupid considering that rarely does ONE person go camping alone.
Grand Design makes two models with 18 foot garages! Not sure how big an ATV is but didn't think they were 9 ft long! These models also take that space away from your living area to give you more garage space!
I highly doubt that I had a 21-foot Tahoe that fit 2 polaris 450s butt ended to front end, and they fit perfectly. I even put my Sons 70cc dirt bike. The trailer was 2001 Tahoe toyhauler
We have a 2021 397. Our son has his full dedicated room, we pulled the second shower out and made shelves and turned that toilet 1/4 turn when we put it back, so much better! My husband does contract work so we don't move often yet. It's definitely a trade off being this large. There's just no being nimble, have to accept that. I wish I could use my patio more, but I can't in my current location:/ I fully understand about certain tasks that will test your marriage, we've had the same.. lol great video and much appreciate that you guys keep it real. :)
Glad you liked the video, and we try to keep it real! We didn't remove the shower completely, but we did install shelves and made it into a closet, we made it so we can put it back for resale! There is no being nimble in a rig this size, we also think we will be using this patio tent more often now that we know how to put it up and take it down!
Every square inch is valuable and usable! We had to make sure buddy would be comfortable, too! He rides in the floor of our backseat in the truck on travel days.
We sold our toy hauler and recently bought a 36’ gas class A. We like to stay in state parks and we found it harder to find spots with the toy hauler. I only hauled my bike in the garage once. So far the items on our must haves have been used. This is our third camper so maybe we figured it out..🎉
Having the room is very nice but it comes at a cost of where you can park the RV! We always say if we weren't fulltime we would have something smaller!
Love you videos! We have a 40ft Grand Design Momentum 350G Toyhauler, and we rarely let our patio down even though we love it. We are not full-time, so we only go rving every other month for about 5-6 days, so we probably would never use the tent. Lucky my husband has an automotive repair shop so we store our rv there and we always have it plugged into the electrical to run 1 a/c. We do go inside it regularly to relax and do house keeping to make sure bugs and pest have not moved in 😂. Stay safe out there and keep paving new paths!
We thought we'd use the back patio so much! You're right, it is nice when open. It just doesn't get opened as much as you think it will! That's awesome you have such a great place to store your rv! Happy camping!
Good video! We’ve had the tent, 2 tent trailers, 7 travel trailers, and one fifth wheel over our 41 years of marriage. We presently own a 2022 Forest River Flagstaff 832BWS travel trailer. This one is 37 feet long, 11’9” tall, with 4 slides. Our two boys are in their late 30s now, but we still seem to stick with bunkhouse models. Our only fifth wheel was 39 feet long with 5 slides. We felt we couldn’t pull it without a dually. My husband didn’t like giving up the bed of his truck. We like the bunkhouse models because it gives us a bonus room. Sometimes it’s a guestroom, sometimes our grand children travel with us, and it becomes their room and sometimes it becomes my husband’s home office. We considered a toy hauler, but in order to get all the things we wanted, we would need to go to a fifth wheel hauler. It was difficult to find a bunkhouse model that had two kitchen slides, a bedroom slide and washer dryer hookups. We didn’t feel we needed two bathrooms or even a bath and a half. We’re happy with what we have now. We live in it full-time and travel a lot. We also do a lot of boondocking so solar was a must. The most unusable space for us is the outdoor kitchen. We took the refrigerator out, took the griddle and bbq grill out, and my husband turned it into his workshop. We had our own bbq grill and store it in there for travel. And you’re right about the repairs and upkeep. It doesn’t matter what you buy or how much you spend, you’re going to have to fix things.
Thank you, glad you liked it! We knew for what we wanted to do with the RV that ours checked off the most boxes on what we thought we needed to be successful! Looking back there are several things we don't need, but we love this RV! In the future if we travel less or take shorter trips we would consider having a smaller unit to allow us to go to places we can't go now! You are right, if you actually use your RV no matter what it cost you will be fixing and repairing it!
Me and my wife are part timers. We are looking and getting a new fifth wheel for couples, our current TT is a bunkhouse and currently using the bunks for storage. I to be honest would not get something that long for just the two of us(scared to tow something that large) 37 feet for me is the longest I will go. That black tonk of 100 plus gallons? Thats a lot of(waste) LOL our tanks are all 40 gallons and as a couple we can go a week on those if we are conservative. I do have a 60 gallon fresh water blatter and a 42 gallon blue boy tot. We dry camp 90% of the time. There are always a work around to make your camping experience work for you. I would not change my Rig if I was at full hookups 90% of the time because tank size would not matter when having full hookups. I would have not invested in any of the typical dry camping crazy expensive stuff, like inverters and lifepo4 batteries and solar or a fat generator. I believe its all about the persons camping style and what they need for thier situation. You have a great looking rig and setup that works for you and your familey and style of living! :)
Yes this set up was the best choice for what we wanted to do, and that was travel fulltime as a family and see as much as we can along the way! If we were weekend warriors or only used the RV a few times a year, we would be much smaller as we don't need all of the things we have now if we are actually going camping for a weekend! We realized we liked full hook ups early on and that is what kept us from exploring the idea of solar and batteries, we would have never used them!
@@PavingNewPaths i totally get it! No reason to this money at something your not going to use. Me and my wife prefer full hookups for extended stays when we had the kids with us. But now that it’s just us. We are off grid 90% of the time in some forest. It’s all about what you like and what the needs are.
So we live in ours and we are stationary quite a lot. Like it might roll 3 times a year. It's a 5th wheel and it's 36'. It's nimble and backs up like a dream. We don't really have anything break. My dislike is the turning point pin box we don't need as the pattern is so different Resse doesn't make a goose box for it (yet). Does your awning go out over the tent?
We have found almost all of our repairs came during or after a move! I don't think we have every had anything break while we were setup and living! Yes the awning can go out over the tent!
I haul a keystone Fuzion 369 TH. So glad I got a f350 tow boss dually diesel to pull it. I haul my golf cart and my Pit Boss smoker in my garage and sometimes I fit my wives kayak in there too.
I was going to say, "If your trailer has 6-wheels, your truck needs 6-wheels!!!" Guess I'm an old timer! 👴 All the problems you mentioned about being that big are spot-on! Makes it great, and makes it a PITA... I tell everyone that's new to big trailers, the biggest difference you will notice (or not until it's too late), is that tail swing. It will be your biggest challenge to adjust to. Then I tell them, do LOTS of research on parks (spot size, ingress & egress) and plan your routes extremely well. The time you spend doing that will ultimately save you lots of time and damage. The thing I love about my Seismic 4113, is that I have the side deck for additional entertainment space. That was the deal maker for me! Back deck is my full size BBQ & oversize cooler area, and bugs have not been a problem for me (but I'm not full time nor travel with kids). Tent looks great, but I wonder how much you'll use it in the future. Next time, try strapping it down before setting it up all the way if you can. Maybe won't blow away that way... I usually do a couple/few multi-week trips a year, by myself, to see friends, and it's totally worth it, because I can take my ATV and eBike with me. Fortunately, I have a loading dock to store it in, so not using it more does not cause extra problems. Once I saw the toy haulers with side decks, that became the #1 thing I had to have. Could do without the 2nd 1/2 bath, and wish I had a walk in shower instead of a tub, but those were the trade-offs. Thing I didn't expect was how much I love the extra basement space the elevated kitchen gives me. SAFE TRAVELS!!!
Maybe you were just taught by an old timer like me! You've definitely got to plan and plan some more before you move something this size, or it will cost you! Lots to be aware of, like the tail swing, as you mentioned! The kids tend to open the door and come in and out without closing it, since they have toys in both areas and the bugs just take us over! We were looking at the 399TH when we got ours and it had the side patio. There were just a few things we needed that it didn't have, so we took it off our list! And next time, we will strap it down first! Hoping to use it again, but it is just so rainy lately, we haven't had the chance!
We are very similarly sized to you guys. As weekend warriors, we love that our rig does not have a garage. We have an open concept toyhauler 5th wheel and we love the space. But if we were full timing, i can certainly understand the garage. I just love that i have 26' of cargo space and no garage model can touch that. We have a side patio on ours that we use all the time and love. Way better than the rear patio. The cons of being that large, are not fitting into places.
That sounds like an awesome set up! There is no perfect RV, but sometimes there is one that is perfect for you and what you are trying to do with it! We don't use the rear patio as much as we thought, but with this tent we will likely be using in more now!
I love this info. Thank you. We have the same exact issues. We have the same size TH. I just wanted to mention that we stripped our back/ramp door of all hardware and sealed it with rhino bed, i think you should look into it just for the longevity.
We have a momentum 351m we love the half bath and patio. I don't leave door done if going to rain so we don't have the issue with door filling with water. We're a little tight on living area storage compared to our last 5th wheel but love the garage to bring our e bikes and kayaks. I wish my basement storage was bigger but after seeing you coming close to dragging sometimes think ok without the drop frame. We also sometimes struggle finding sites on occasion but we're only 40' so a bit smaller. Another great video thanks
The drop frame was a big selling point for us as it offers so much storage! But it has also been the thing I worry about all the time when entering and leaving places! We love ours but there are also challenges with the things we love about it!
I am amazed you got that back in the bag. I have a queen sized air mattress that moved to a big ikea bag after the first time i used it. I tried a few times to get it small enough but alas, i failed. My dad and I are spending a lot of time looking at towable rvs. We'll probably start with a travel trailer, but unless the lottery gives me money, i'll need a workspace. which was my plan with something like a toy hauler. plus the bed size for extra full sized humans. I think it's funny you got all this boondocking stuff (gen, tank size) and you won't. :)
We have boondocked maybe 10 nights in the last 3 years, in rest areas, truck stops, and on family land! We had plans to do harvest host and use our capabilities in the beginning, we learned early, that is just not the way we are going to travel! Sure we can, but with our set up and family it just doesn't make the most sense to camp at those type of places! Maybe if the kids were older we could do some 3-5 day stays in places, but for now we are full hook up travelers!
Our fifth wheel is only 33ft. Used to have class C’s. No regrets. However, it’s too hot to camp in San Antonio TX and it takes so long to get out old this state, that it sits for 2 months.
Great job!! That deck tent looked pretty awesome. Kudos for getting it back in the bag. You are spot on with the big rig advice. We have a 40ft 5er and dually. We spend a lot of time planning our trips and our stays to accommodate our rig.
Thank you! The rear tent was way better than we expected! Planning is the worst thing about traveling, it feels like you spend so much time with routes, fuel stops, and what parks you can actually fit in and enjoy!
We are empty nesters and our first camper was a 29' couples travel trailer. We recently upgraded to a 38' 5th wheel couples model for more space and we love it, though traveling does take more planning. My biggest complaints about the travel trailer was the small bathroom and limited space/storage in MBR. It always seemed like I was moving things to get to other things. I also didn't like climbing in at the foot of the bed and limited closet space. We now have and East West bed so just get in normally. We also now have a closet the width of the RV as well as W/D hookup which comes in handy on longer trips. In the bathroom we have a double vanity and large shower vs corner in the TT. Not sure the double vanity is needed but I hate corner showers. We are planning some long trips i.e. Alaska and we want some creature comforts. Really enjoy the 5th wheel. I daydream about toy haulers but only to be able to haul a golf cart. I am looking at options to be able to do that safely with regular 5th wheel. Love all your videos and following your travels. Would love to see you guys travel to Alaska and get your perspectives.
We love the Toyhauler, and it has been great for us and our traveling lifestyle! If we were not fulltime there is no way we would have an RV this big, we would be much smaller and easier to get around! We have been thinking about and Alaska Trip!
We have a 27 foot travel trailer with a huge rear window, one big slide. The bath is full width separating the bedroom from the living area. Great for two, easy to haul and no hassle traveling. Yes for weekend warriors trailers are the way to go. Solar panels give us off grid power for the basics. Your setup is great for what you do. I’ll never own a 5ver because of all the travel limitations.
We can only justify having this thing because we are fulltime, if we just went out a few times a year we would be a much smaller rig! It works for what we are trying to do now, but in the future if we are not fulltime or just taking bigger trips out we would likely do it in a smaller rig!
Great video! So much important information when considering a big rig. We have a Coachman Brookstone 344FL. It has a "master suite" with bedroom and large bathroom. We love it most of the time. The trade off is that it is about half of the RV, which we only use for sleep and shower. The living/kitchen area seems small when we are inside due to weather. And as always, our RV does not have enough basement storage. By the way, Happy Belated Birthday!!
Same with ours we have a good master and awesome toy hauler but we give up kitchen and living space! Which makes for very boring rainy days! Thanks so much for the Birthday Wishes!
You are absolutely spot on in sharing the pros and cons. I hope everyone considering full time RV life in a toy hauler sees this. 2018 397TH here. TH used as an office. Our kids are grown and flown. I looove the curtains in yours!
We wish we had seen a video like this when we were deciding, so that's why we made this one! There's so many things you just don't know til you own one and use it! We love how versatile the TH is! And thanks for the compliment on the curtains! My (Alecia) mom cut and hemmed them for us! Most are one panel cut in half lengthwise for the smaller windows!
Good video 😊just saying you do need a generator unless you all ways get full hook up parks like a tourist you don't boondocking there are better fifth wheels new horizon for one grand design has quality build problems bumper pulls not as stable 😊 safe travels
@@stephenpolos1689 Our RV is amazing and has done exactly what we bought it for! In 3 years we have used the generator maybe 10 nights so we realize we don't actually need it for the way we camp! We also don't boondock as we are a family of 5 living fulltime, so yes we stay hooked up to power like a tourist
We have a 41.5’ 5th wheel and dually. It’s been great as we have been mostly stationary. Since we want to travel more and be more nimble we are looking to downsize. We thought we would need more kitchen stuff and that hasn’t been the case. Downsizing is an ongoing process, plus it’s just us two and two cats. Enjoyed this video!!
You're right about downsizing! It never stops! Kevin and I always say we would go small if it was just us and no kids! I'm sure being nimble has its challenges, but it seems way less stressful for travel days and maintaining the rig.
We have a Grand Design toy hauler for us it is great but my husband and I have been doing long haul truck driving for 26 years. I did find when we went to Daytona bike week this year I had to make sure the rv parks could accommodate our toy hauler.
We have a 26 foot toy hauler (Torque T26) travel trailer and have the same tent. It is two of us with 2 golden retrievers. Love the tent, versatility and inside height and open space of a toy hauler. We haul a electric golf . With that said, it can be work to use the room for different purposes. Our toy hauler is 12ft 9 tall. We pull it with a 2500 GMC with a Propride 3P hitch. Would not use any other hitch. We have it on a seasonal site and travel with it. Best of both worlds until we retiree. Thanks for sharing the video. Being honest is important and agree no one RV is perfect. Happy travels.
We love how the tent is going to make us use the rear patio more often now! It is so hard to find the perfect RV, there are some that are close, but never perfect!
Great video and I agree with everything you've mentioned, the struggle is real for big rigs lol. We have a Primetime Crusader 382MBH and it's 44ft long and 13.4ft tall and like you guys, it limits us to certain areas. We like shaded sites but a lot of camp grounds we're limited to pull through sites which might only have one little sappling tree lol. Also like you said, I'm always researching the route and even google map the camp ground to see what it looks like from above. But I will say that being a 5th wheel they are very maneuverable, we frequent one camp ground and it's wooded and very tight but we manage to get into the site problem free. We towed it with a 19 F350 srw and it towed it fine but got pushed around down hills specially so we bit the bullet and were lucky to find a new 22 F450 and its the perfect tow rig and with our rigs pin weight of only 2500lbs it doesnt really effect the truck at all. Lastly, a must for us was a mid bunk so my Daughter had her own room. It's not as big of a room as a toy hauler but big enough to be comfortable for her. There's one manufacture making a 2 full sized room2 with 2 full bathrooms now and my Wife was like "hmmm"... I said no!
Thank you! I never thought I would spend so much time planning how to drive, fuel and park this thing! Not to mention the crazy entry and exit angles these parks like to have! If we had to do it again there are a few bunkhouse models that could work for us, but we would still be big!
Great video! RVing has some great highs, but there are some lows too. My wife and I have a 43" toy hauler, we use the garage for our granddaughters' dedicated bedroom/play room. We don't use our generator as much as I thought we would, but its still a must-have to me because I have peace of mind that we can stop and be comfortable anywhere.
Thanks! We are glad you found a rig that works great for your family/extended family! We don't use our generator as much as we thought we would either!
We have a Momentum 376th. Kind of a hybrid toy hauler. We have a “mini” garage that can fit either a motorcycle, golf cart or small SxS. We use ours for bikes and a golf cart. We also have a big front living room and a nice size kitchen. We also boondock a lot so we use our generator quite a bit.
Cool patio tent! We have the GD M351 toy hauler with the 11 ft garage and love it! ❤ We have a golf cart, motorcycle and electric bikes we take with us. Love what you did for the girls room. I am retired and travel about 6 or so months a year and would not trade our toy hauler for a travel trailer. We use a F350 SRW truck because our unit is 38 9 and 16,600 GVW. I will keep watching and keep up the good videos!!!
Yeah these are a lot of the reasons I am leaning away from the toyhauler to towing double (alumna trailer behind 5th wheel). When I want to take toys I can and when I don’t we keep out our length as short as possible (30ft 5er).
Use the intake port on the pump to suck the air out and it will make it easier to get in the bag. Once you have all the air out put the cap back on to hold the vacuum.
Like your mindset with the safety of your girls all the time. Safety first. Never compromise on that. Love the video and presentation of the info. ❤❤❤❤😊😊😊 Happy Trails. Michelle. Greenville Fl 🎉
That tent is pretty cool! We have a toy hauler in west TN and we never use the deck 😢 i would definitely use that tent! Your packing skills are phenomenal! I really didn't think those little bags were gonna fit! Haha
We love our RV but the only way we could ever justify something this big was to be fulltime! If we only went on a few trips a year we would be much smaller!
We have 30ft travel trailer we go at lest ones month we stayed at 30 get state parks .our sleep 8 most time it just my husband 2 small dogs. 30ft it ok for us.
If we were not fulltime we wouldn't have something this big! We also feel we miss out on some amazing state parks and national parks because of our size!
Thank you for the great video, Im getting myself ready to do RV'ing learned a few things from you hopefully everything works out good.. Stay safe out there God bless
Thank you! Traveling in an RV is awesome and such an adventure! No matter how much you prepare there will be things that come up! But it's all part of the adventure!
Thank you! Toyhaulers are awesome, but everything that makes them great is also things that will add challenges to your travels! We love ours but the way we travel now is no where close to the way we traveled on year one!
@@PavingNewPaths - That would be a great video for newbies, too. Although everyone's needs are different, it would be nice to have a summary of "what we thought" vs. "the reality" a year down the road. I hear pieces of that in your videos I've watched so far (just discovered you this morning), but to have a concise list would be great. Happy travels, and, again, appreciate your sharing!
We thought we would boondock more, but once we started having kids and being fulltime we realized that one, we can't conserve water very well, and two we like having full hookups and a place for the kids to play! We might actually boondock if we were only going to do it a few times a year on short trips!
My flagpole was rated for 100mph wind, I wish I could show you a picture, but we had 60mph straight line winds on thursday that bent it over like a twig! Good luck.
I camped and raced dirt bikes for 15 years. I tried all the combinations between class A and C, funmovers, toyhaulers, F450s and chevyv 3500s. All i can say is im.so glad 5 years ago i got rid of everything. It was exhausting.
I have a 35' TT and its limited on where i can park it as well. Its 11'6" and i too have places i cant drive due to heights. The one thing i am adding is solar as it will allow me to go where i dont need hook-ups. It has small tanks on it and emptying them is a weekly ordeal. Otherwise its great.
I look forward to a time when I don't have to plan every single travel day down to the rest areas! We have huge tanks but also 5 people so we still clean them about every 7 days!
We are going to order our 2024 Ford F-450 Platinum to pull our Riverstone 442MC. What should we make sure to get in our set up and what things do you have that you never use?
I would get the basic necessities first and start traveling! Once you figure out how you intend to travel then start upgrading and making improvements to enhance your experience! We made a video about this subject here th-cam.com/video/b7YoPal_er0/w-d-xo.html
8 miles per gallon!!! wow!!!! that is incredible!!! thanks for the in-depth description of the challenges involved with having such a big rig. you do a great job relaying lots of information in a very concise and clear way - and you made it very entertaining as well. you both are very creative in your filming and camera angles. i'm wondering if there are ever any "out takes" or "bloopers" when you are making your videos. i know that i would have TONS of bloopers if i tried to convey that much information. would you ever consider making a montage of bloopers? folks might find it entertaining. i'm sold on a toy hauler now. in our fantasy future with an rv, it now must have a toy hauler. i can do my artwork in there, maybe. you got the tent back into the bag!!! congratulations!!! well done!!! thanks for another great video!!!
Yes the gas mileage is not great when you tow a rig this big! Glad you liked the video, and we try to change things up and instead of sitting still and just talking how can we tell the story in a more entertaining way! We have tons of bloopers, There was one scene in this video that took me like 15 takes to get it right and it was the easiest talking point! That might be a good idea to make a blooper reel!
Kevin that is great thing about all the floor plans and sizes, something for every need!! I can tell you as a part timer, I love our Solitude 380FL, its 42' 5th wheel. I hate how big tag trailers tow compared to a 5th wheel. I love the living room space of the front living room, and agree a bath and a half is awesome and a new must traveling with 3 ladies for me. This is my 3rd RV, I think my biggest complaint is I hate the modern awnings compared to my last two RVs which had ones that could handle light wind and rain.
There are good RV'S out there but none that are perfect! We love and hate things about ours, but it checks the most boxes in what we needed to travel fulltime! I agree the new awnings can't be trusted in the wind or rain!
@@PavingNewPaths Exactly, find the one that checks the most boxes. But I will likely always pick a 5th wheel over a tag. We where between a TH and the front living in 2020. We went with the indoor living space over the garage/sleeping space for our now teens.
@@jamesbitb There were some really nice fifth wheel bunkhouse models that we now know likely would have worked just fine for us! But at the time we didn't think they checked the most boxes!
We have a East to West 386MBOK . We needed to have a bigger living area because we have 3 kids between 7 and 10 years old. I wanted a king bed and big shower, and outside kitchen. But you definitely need to be aware of the height and plan accordingly. Love your channel ❤
Than you! We are glad you enjoy the videos! We wish we had a bigger entertaining area, and there are a few bunkhouse models that would work for us now that we know what and how we are going to use the RV!
Great video.. I chose to get rid of my Cruiser Stryker toy hauler, not that it was a bad rig (one of the best "brand name" toy haulers I've ever owned). But I was sick of not being able to get into tight spots and I wanted a true four seasons trailer for off grid and way off road camping. I opted for the Imperial Outdoors XR22. Needless to say I had to come up with some crafty ways to store things going from a 40 foot trailer to 24 feet...lol You were spot on with the tow vehicle, too many people are towing these trailers with the wrong vehicle. Happy travels!
Since we live fulltime we want as much room as possible, but being big comes at a cost, both in money and options! There is so many people towing nowadays with the wrong truck!
Alicia I’m with you. I HATE flies. They are nasty!!!! We had a grand design toy hauler which we loved. But we never used the patio either. Great idea. But with an rv you are already outside. The tent thing is great for the kids though. Good clean play area
We hate flies so much, feels like it takes days to get rid of them all! The tent was awesome it basically doubled the kids room and they had so much space to play! We don't think we will ever leave it out in the rain, but for extended periods of good weather for sure!
We looked at that room and the set up is a real pain in the a$$. Good idea and unless you are staying for over 2 weeks not worth it to me. After over a year of looking for our rv, we were or are the only ones that found the RV that checked all of out list. 42 foot with rear patio and not a toy hauler.
Putting it up the first time was not very fun, but now that we have done it once, it would probably be a 10 min thing to do it again! You are right it is only worth it if you can leave it up for an extended period!
OK, It's our outside kitchen. We don't use it as much as we thought we would. I think I would rather have More windows for a better view. But as you stated before, It's pretty much perfect for Us!!
The outdoor kitchen was something we really wanted, but we eventually took it off the list of must haves! I can see how it can be useful, but also how it could go without ever being used!
Thank you very much for the intimate look into your t.h. The video is the best so far, as an off shoot of the norm. Also, brother man, i feel you`re doing very well, considering the number of people who drive like traffic laws are suggestions to laugh at., any way, be safe and sound always all. Agree all day about the flies, and include bugs period, they belong outside lol. a good vacuum in a holster, lol, at the ready. The family that prays and listens to the word of god regularly, and learns to humble themselves before him, can overcome anything.
I laughed when you mentioned having 7 things to fix before you even go, and then 14 things to fix when you get back! 😂 Ain't that the truth!!
Every time! When I haven't had to fix anything in a while, I usually start to worry that I haven't found whats broke yet!
I have been a fan of your channel for awhile. All your videos have been great but this one by far is the best. Thanks.
Thank you! It means a lot when we get comments like this!
We love our upgraded mattresses! The stock ones were awful!
Enjoyed the video....amazing that you got it all back in the bag with little effort!!!
We were surprised it went back in thr bag as well! There was a little bit of effort!
Love the tent. The length is long. Didn’t like our fifth wheel because of the length. Stare travels! Love your family!
The tent is awesome! The length dictates what campgrounds and sites you can fit into! Usually the more expensive ones!
I always say the RV is half of the adventure!
We have a toy hauler also. Finding sites and travel routes is definitely an issue to consider.
Yes, indeed!
Which is usually filled with misc. stuff.
We have never actually used the oven in ours in 3 years now!
Not sure about that tent Kevin but thanks for the laughs😅
I was unsure of it as well, it's actually a pretty awesome tent and we will be using it more often now!
That tent is awesome and we have left it out a few times when the weather is nice! The kids enjoy it because it makes their room twice as big!
Great vlog! Seems like not to long ago you answered some questions that I had about driving or pulling a trailer, and now the vlog.👍 Thanks.
Thank you! Glad we could help you out and glad you enjoy the video!
I would downsize to a 32' couples fifth wheel, but I would never go back to a travel trailer. Towing experience is so much better than a TT.
Wife had to have the mid bunk model with 2 couches in the living room for entertaining. I wanted a rear bunk room with multiple bunks with an outdoor kitchen (fridge and sink). I lost🤷...
Highway miles are the easy ones, its the first and last 5 that always get you!
Ha Ha! I am always being supervised by someone!
Good job on getting that tent back in the bag!! Y’all did good!! Love your videos! Look forward to them every week!! Thanks for sharing your family!❤❤
Thank you! It fit better than we expected! We appreciate you watching our videos every week!
I like the toy hauler that has the side deck. Those are nice!
We really wanted that model, but the side deck meant giving up the basement storage!
@@PavingNewPaths give and take iguess
We have seen those; we weren't sure if they actually worked or were a gimmick!
Captain America does it again. Awesome job. You guys r so fun to watch, I just love ur family. Thanks for being so real & sharing ur journey of life.
✌️😁.
Thank you! We are glad you enjoy the videos!
I have two fithwill trailers the 25' I'm making it a toy Haller / a mobile shop.
That is awesome!
That sounds great! Good luck on your upgrades!
Great one Kevin!
We love our Winnebago Horizon 42 Q because:
1. Size and floorplan
2. The Maxum Chassis ride
3. The Modern interior
What we don’t like
1. Need to plan way in advance
2. Limited camping sites
Take a look at ATC
Wow you sure do use every square inch ! Love Buddy’s quite space. Where does buddy ride on travel days ?
We are impressed!! I can't even get my suitcase re-packed once I pull anything out, let alone a tent or even an air mattress. Fun video! Thank you!!
Thank you! Glad you liked it! We were very skeptical that it would ever go back in that bag!
Toy haulers are awesome, but they also bring when them challenges and problems you may not have considered until you own it!
We did that to the rear deck when we got it! That's why we put the pads down so the kids aren't playing on the rhino liner!
@@PavingNewPaths you gotta do what's best for your family.
Our fifth wheel is only 33ft. Used to have class C’s. No regrets. However, it’s too hot to camp in San Antonio TX and it takes so long to get out old this state, that it sits for 2 months.
We love Texas but we head somewhere not so hot every year!
Fantastic video!
Thanks!
Where do I get 1 of those for my tow hauler? It would be great to get more use out of the deck.
@@jesselee2372 They stopped making them we just happened to find one that was still available at a dealership!
Oh wow you could put our Travel trailer inside of your Toy Hauler! Lol 😂 safe travels guys!
We have joked we should put a pop up back there and that could be the kids house when we get places!
@@PavingNewPaths Oh my goodness that’s Awesome!
Where did you find one of these? I was told they haven't been made in ages and even eTrailer doesn't carry these anymore.
We found a dealership that still had one in stock! We have had it for a while just never had time to use it!
The patios look like a nice addition- but thank you for pointing out the downsides and actual frequency of use when hot and cold- wonderful insight
Ours is also amazing for us, but at times the things we love about the RV are also the things that make traveling a challenge!
I love how honest y'all are! thanks for the great content!
Thank you!
I love your layout of your rv especially with a big family
Thank you! It's not perfect but it did check the most boxes for us!
You two rock amazing content just enjoy watching your video's everything you say most rv people can relate to
Thank you! We appreciate you watching the videos!
We loved that model but not with kids, that is the perfect setup for a couple! That front living room is really nice!
@@PavingNewPaths Yeah it’s the perfect couples model. Our grown daughter travels with us every once in awhile.
The patio tent was awesome, way better than we thought it was going to be! We are considering getting a golf cart to add to the toy hauler!
Yeah these are a lot of the reasons I am leaning away from the toyhauler to towing double (alumna trailer behind 5th wheel). When I want to take toys I can and when I don’t we keep out our length as short as possible (30ft 5er).
Being long has it's challenges especially when it comes to campgrounds!
Use the intake port on the pump to suck the air out and it will make it easier to get in the bag. Once you have all the air out put the cap back on to hold the vacuum.
We did use the pump to suck all the air out of the tent! There is no way this is going back in the bag if you don't get the air out!
Like your mindset with the safety of your girls all the time. Safety first. Never compromise on that. Love the video and presentation of the info. ❤❤❤❤😊😊😊 Happy Trails. Michelle. Greenville Fl 🎉
Thank you! We are glad you enjoyed the video!
That tent is pretty cool! We have a toy hauler in west TN and we never use the deck 😢 i would definitely use that tent! Your packing skills are phenomenal! I really didn't think those little bags were gonna fit! Haha
That tent was awesome! We 100% from the beginning never thought that it would go back in the bag either!
the wife and I are empty nesters and have a 30' fifth wheel works great for two but not good for a family full time living
Entry and exits! Yes!
They're always the worst at rv parks! And we think that's where they should be the easiest!
Thank you so much for the transparency! We are looking at RVs right now and leaning toward a TH for that customizable space. Appreciate it.
@@bethsnider9639 That's actually a great idea! It's on the list now we will see what we can do about making that!
" instructions worse than Ikea?" You're both brave. I put Ikea together all wrong.
Use them as a loose guideline!
We have a 2021 397th and definitely use it the same way y’all do. But I am Active duty military and we only travel about 2 to 3 times a year.
Good luck.
I dout the tent would stand up well to anything over 30mph! Its nice and sturdy but 60 mph is alot of wind!
The more you put the tent up the easier it will get!!
It's pretty simple now, but that first try when you don't know where anything is was rough!
Well that was a cool tent! I might have to eventually get one for the semi truck with a toy deck I'm designing!
The tent was awesome, and way better than we expected it to be!
Great entertainment and information, thank you Matthew McConaughey’s little brother. Safe travels dude.
Alright, alright, alright! Glad you liked it!
Great video. Helpful information. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you!
@PavingNewPaths Yeah, with your tanks I could go three weeks! It's just me.
Thank you!
Needless to say I had to come up with some crafty ways to store things going from a 40 foot trailer to 24 feet...lol
You were spot on with the tow vehicle, too many people are towing these trailers with the wrong vehicle.
You are right it is only worth it if you can leave it up for an extended period!
its going to hang out with the unicorn bean bags. I mean they will be about the same size right?
Those unicorn bean bags take up so much space!
Your rv is perfect for movie time and Mexican train!! Love you kitchen and living room!!
Definitely good luck. It was nice though.
It was really cool!
The one thing I had to have that has ended up being a constant repair are the vibrating seats… complete waste of time and money.
Yeah they should come without the couches and the mattresses and let us put good ones in there!
We have a 44ft toy hauler as well and I've been lookin for these rooms, where did y'all find one?
We found a dealership that had one still! We have carried it for a long time just finally got around to using it!
Thank you so much! We are glad you liked it, we often change it up and do several different styles of videos throughout the year!
Excellent Vlog!
Thank you!
