The Nissan S130 is a sports coupé produced by Nissan in Japan from 1978 until 1983. It was sold as the Datsun 280ZX, Nissan Fairlady Z and Nissan Fairlady 280Z, depending on the market. In Japan, it was exclusive to Nissan Bluebird Store locations. It was the second generation Z-car, replacing the Nissan Fairlady Z (S30) in late 1978. The 280ZX was the first time the "by Nissan" subscript was badged alongside the Datsun logo, along with Nissan trucks. The 280ZX was Motor Trend's import car of the year for 1979. The 280ZX was replaced by the Nissan 300ZX in 1984.
The 280ZX was a complete redesign, retaining only the L28 inline-six engine and other driveline components from the 280Z. Both two-seat and four-seat (2+2) designs were offered. Compared to the more overtly sporting earlier models, the 280ZX was a much softer, heavier car, with less focus on driving and more on driver comfort and refinement.[1] Softer suspension, better sound insulation, more comfortable seats, and ample equipment including high-end audio systems defined the new ZX. In the spirit of the times, emissions controls and aerodynamics were markedly improved over the first generation Z-cars, while weight was down somewhat as long as the buyer did not pick much from the very long options list.[2] The exterior design was evolutionary, less rounded and with better integrated safety bumpers. Many parts, including the rear-axle and the power steering came from the Datsun 810 luxury sedan.[2] Most of the design effort went into the entirely different and much more modern interior.[3] The car became a grand tourer rather than a sports car, particularly in the plush Grand Luxury versions.
It is a common misconception that the 280ZX's L28 engine is less powerful than the L24 engine of the 1970 240Z or the L26 engine of the 260Z; the difference is due to Nissan adopting the SAE net standard of power measurement, which resulted in lower power ratings than the earlier gross figures and added emissions. However, Nissan designers deliberately sacrificed raw acceleration for improved fuel economy in the 280ZX, so the early 1979 models rated at 135 hp (101 kW) actually had slower acceleration than the 240Z, largely due to increases in weight and taller gearing, as well as power losses to emissions controls. This overall performance deficit was not addressed until the release of the 280ZX Turbo in 1981. - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
Nice build there. STORY TIME! In 1982 or so I came up against one of these Turbo editions, in gold, at a stoplight late one night, little to no traffic. It was shiny! The driver, a person of Middle East descent with a pile of gold chains around his neck, looked over at me and revved his engine. So, I returned the gesture. He laughed. Unfortunately for him, the car he was laughing at was my dusty 1969 Fairlane Cobra, Ram Air 428 Cobra Jet, 4-speed with 4.11's out back. The light turned green, he hammered it. I eased it out (old bias plies, you know) and then unleashed a tempest of biblical proportions upon the hapless fool. Killed with a capital "K". I pulled out in 3rd gear and slowed for the upcoming green light to turn red so I could administer more punishment. He was far enough back that he hit the binders and whipped a right down the side street, never to be seen again. I guess those gold emblems were a couple hundred horsies shy of adequate back then. Jets Rule!
Outstanding video and presentation.
I'm Dan, Martha's my wife. Love the fiddle music.
Ah nostalgia. Father had a gold 82' 280ZX Turbo 2+2. I remember being in the back seat as a 10year old, listening to Mannheim steamroller Fresh Air 4 while on the way from Franklin WI, to Prairie Du Chien WI for a weekend vacation.
I still own my 1981 280 zx that I bought new. Blue with silver, T-tops and 5 Speed.
Beautiful car! Really like the color. 👍👍👍
Great looking little car - thanks for the build.
Great build. Nice work as always 👍👍
Came together real nice 👍🏿
Nicely done!
Not trying to age myself, but this was one of my favorite cars back in middle school. lol
Stunning work looks excellent
Good looking build.
I have this kit, it's my first build, really appreciate you going through it, it helps to see how others tackle their model building.
It's nice to give help to the person and Must feel good too you when help someone. Sounds like to me the commenter was a little jealous about the build. When I first started building, my dad helped me And I appreciate everything that he showed me . Then I got married and stopped building models. And now that i'm close to retirement age I am starting to build again and a lot of things that my father taught me is coming back.
I wish he was around.
Nice build👍 I can’t wait to build one myself
Nice build! I wish they would produce the datsun b210 scale model! I had a 1978 model and it was very good on gas! Would love to build a scale model of it!
Great finish! Love it!
Pepper Red - yeow zir - nice look. I gotta have this - cause I always wanted the real one. Thanks for sharing this build.
Nice job Chris! Nice kit. A close friend of mine had a bronze 280Z when I was young. Looks spot on. Thanks
Another great build an looks great an thanks for the pledge/quick shine to stop an fogging
Any time!
Great build Chris! Very nice detail work and color choices.😊
Dang it!
I passed on this today, in favour of an Italeri Gr.2 Ford Escort Mk2.
I’m going to have to go back and collect this one as well…
You are a better man than me. Back in the 80s when I was about 30 I had a '82 280ZX 2+2 Turbo gun metal w/silver leather interior. Had a poor girl trapped in it somewhere - she was confused kept tellin me my door was a jar; I need "gas" even after Chili at Barney's Beanery. Anyway this model came out and I thought well it's CLOSE to my car but when I opened it it was/is TINY, that 1:25 scale makes a big diff with a small car like a Datsun. It also has flash I wasn't thrilled with so it stayed in the box and got sold years ago. But, you KILLED IT! 👍🏻
Cool model.
My boss bought one of these when they came out, in Datsun's orange "Electric Popsicle" color. Only available with an old-school (s-l-o-w) automatic transmission and T-Tops for the first year or two (?). I always considered the introduction of the 280ZX as the start of the decline here in the states for the Z-car/Fairlady, as the car got bigger, heavier, softer, etc from that generation forward.
That’s a very cool build. Might be my favorite one! I love those cars tho
Nice build....Cool Car. I just finished AMT`s 72 Nova. I`ve built 5 car models in the last few months. Super fun ! Thanks for the inspiration. Love your channel. Your presentation is spot on.
I was pleasantly surprised at how well executed this kit is. *IIRC*, it was issued only once (1981) , though I can't recall having seen it in any stores at that time (I was 11 when it was released).
Its engine stands on its own, as you've pointed out ; nice representation of the last of the Datsun straight six engines in passenger cars (at least in the U.S.).
Those tyres are old *Lensey* [sp] era Good Years -- the original issue of the 1970 Challenger R/T Convertible (stock iteration) had those tyres in it (and thankfully *NOT* those hideous Rally GT "snow tyres" which AMT foisted upon us back then).
It'd be nice if *Round2* were to backdate it to a 1970 - 1973 *240* , and mould the tail lamps in clear (easier to paint the amber turn signal portion and the backup lamps portion).
I'll have to give the *NATO* *BLACK* a try for glass tinting. I didn't realise that it was *that* translucent !
Nice build. I had a 1980’ black/w gold trim and 5-in the floor. Probably one of my most favorites!!!
Excellence build on this 280Z Chris , I particularly like you color choices! Most of the ones I have seen are black. Great presentation as always!!
A nice looking car for sure. I do wish however that there was a Datsun 240Z Baja racer kit to be had.
Really nice model Chris. It looks spectacular!
Nice build. I wanted one of these cars when I was in high school. Never got one (probably fortunately), so I'll just get this one! 😁
Very nice. I like the video and the kit. In the 80's t.v. show, "Magnum P.I.", Magnum's friend "Rick" drove a similar car in the series, I am pretty sure it was a 280 Z (non-turbo.) Keep up the great work.
Mine got delivered the other day
nice build, I just finished a '77 Benz 450
Very well done on your Datsun Chris! I just finished mine last week. Did it in a Metallic Blue with medium blue and light grey interior! I had an issue getting my body to lay down flat but glue and a paper weight helped lock it down! My kit was missing the alternator, reached out to Round 2 and I should be getting one soon. I plan on building another one of these in a black with the gold wheels and gold striping package!
Another one of my favorite early '80s cars. I had a neighbor with one in this same spec in the mid-1990s and there was a 2+2 model available around the time I bought my second car, but that car was full of rust and parts availability where I live would have been a challenge. I've been looking forward to this build for a while.
Really nice model. I'm working on any Airfix 1/72 scale P-51D of the 100th Fighter Squadron. My markings will be for 1LT Robert Williams
Interested in seeing this built, as the 2 seater turbo never made it to Australia.
Saw this kit the other day I was tempted.. I used to own an ‘81 280ZX, such a fun car to drive!!.. Oh the air filter housing could be painted baby blue as they were
Great build, Chris. Your channel is probably my favorite subscription. You continually inspire me and I think I pick up something from every one of your videos. Thanks for sharing the experience and for all you do for the community of builders! Keep the vids coming man!
Love your channel Chris! About to start ICM’s 35110 WW II German Command Car. I think you showed it in one of your model rollout videos. Would love to see you do a full build on this! Keep up the great work!
👍👍👍👍
It looks to me that you can paint craft paint over spray paints. How is that possible. Ever time i attempt that it doesnt cover unless i put two or sometimes three coats on. Another great build 👌🇨🇦👍
Thanks for the tip on tinting I have used Tamiya smoke to tint but I thought black would be too dark an couldn't be see throw it I'll have to give it a try
One of my neighbors. Actually has one of these In his driveway
🥰🥰
Can you please give a tutorial on how to apply the pledge finish you often talk about. I don’t use an airbrush, just rattle cans for the painting of my cars. Curious to know how you do this step. Thanks, your videos are great.
Beautiful! Did you put a final coat of Future on the body at the end?
Still the 90s 300zx was the best. The 280zx Turbo shamed the 1982 Corvette.
My favorite was the 4 banger Datsun trucks I know of a white one still running today old lady in her 80s drives it got a little body rust but frame and drive train still in good shape could use a little bit of TLC on body and paint
I've got a 55 Chevrolet cameo and christine
I knew a dude that stuck in a turbo v6 from a totaled Grand National Buick....it was stupid fast
Chris I wS wondering if you've ever used the paint pens from walmart? They have all colors and are fairly cheap
dont take this the wrong way, but iirc datsun had this weird baby blue color they painted their air cleaners with and next time you're near your local tint shop ask them for a drop off of some light tint %35, if they give you a piece 1 foot square its enough for 10 cars. in the old days i use to do my cars lol. nice kit that 280
I don't understand why you assemble your wheels before installing the tires.
So that when I glue the rims together it doesn't cloud the vinyl tire.
I wouldn't worry about it too much.
Build in a way that works for you and enjoy your models your way.
@@hpiguy thanks for the reply
this car always struck me as the Japanese knockoff of the Jaguar E Type
