Mari Boine - Another language (Idjagieđas)

In Idjagieđas, I wrote one of the songs in a language that doesn’t actually exist. A lot of people think it’s in Sámi, but it’s not. The words blossomed inside me, or maybe outside me and came through me.
In our culture, we believe our ancestors send us messages. So perhaps, this was one of these messages someone, somewhere, wants to deliver and uses me as a channel.

Oh Mari, what a lovely story!
It gave me goose bumps at the phrase “…may be some one will come and say: i know that language …”
Even when you do not sing you have the gift of touching-story-telling, beautifull!

Thank you for helping me learn about my grandparents from Sampi -Norway and they moved to the heartlands in America, Wyo, North and South Dakota. My grandfather's mother died out in the prairie when he was 12. I am not sure what happened to his father I think he left with a bottle and did not see my grandpa for years later. A Lokota Souix Holy man took him and raised him with their family on a reservation. My grandpa wore the tribal breechclout, native jewlery until he died. I asked him "are we part native American?" He answered no, "we are Lapps from Norway." However, my grandparents went to pow wow's and honored the native culture. I had no idea of the deep Sami culture until in my 50's I was diagnosed with a rare indiginous disease and after reseaching I learned much more about my grandparents Sami heritage, their love for nature and never taking more than is needed. This was a lot for me to learn later in life. I found your music that help heal me, touch my soul, maybe understand some of the sadness coming from "Northern Norway" and also I saw the beauty of their Sami culture not discussed. I feel them on the other side directing this experience for me, finding my roots that calms the wondering and sadness. Thank you for your gift you share with the world.

Y asi conocer tu historia, la de tu pueblo y darme cuenta de que compartimos esas historias aqui, en el extremo sur o alla, en el extremo norte... Y mi corazon entiende tu idioma...
