On a serious note (believe it or not), the acting of Hope Summers as Clara Johnson in this episode is fantastic. The scene where she opens up to Andy about why this pickle contest means so much to her is beautiful, and one of my favorites in the whole run of the show. Very touching.
Hahaha! I get it now, lOl, why people leave jars of pickles at Aunt Bee's gravesite. How did I miss this episode? Oh my gosh, it's just too funny!!! Thank you Jordan The Lion for sharing her story!!! 🌼
I was in this era. There was actually always a quiet competition among women who could prepare the best anything. This made Grange night the best eatin' ever.
I remember this skit like yesterday; this is only the second time I've seen it. First time was as a child probably in 1962? Crazy how some stuff stays with a fellow.
You know what would have been a more amusing ending? If Aunt Bee somehow found out (maybe from Opie) about the pickle switch and after mentioning the 16 jars, she adds "Maybe next time you don't like what I make, you'll tell the truth".
The band organ playing in the background during the beginning of the county fair scene was a recording of a Wurlitzer 165 playing the tune Ben Hur Chariot Race.
@@foresttemple1380 That's cool, not a lot of people would catch this detail. Since being into mechanical music, I realized there are really just a small handful of people into it.
I want some of winner #4's pickles who won. I bet those were good. Yum. Laughing so hard at the judges as they tasted Aunt Bee's batch and the way the pickles were carefully scrutinized first.
AG and DK used to call FB the Marlboro Man, because she was a heavy smoker. Could you imagine Aunt Bee as the Marlboro Man? It's hard to imagine. FB went from Broadway to Mayberry and it was a difficult transition. There was immense tension on that set, as FB didn't particularly care for her co-stars, or their sense of humor. She considered herself a consummate professional among amateurs.
@@rotunda57that was the first time she made them. Then (and I forget exactly how this went), she made her pickles for the fair, but she wouldn’t win, so they were replaced with pickles from the store. Then Clara (insert last name here) went on about how much it meant to her and her late husband to win the ribbon, so Andy and Barney figured they couldn’t have Bea win in bad faith. So they had to get rid of those pickles too, so Bea would have to make even more Kerosene Cucumbers. Those are the ones appearing at the fair.
Back in the day women did not leave house half dressed. Gloves & hats were staples. That was also the hat era for men. And handkerchiefs.....never home without ‘em.
That was back when people actually cared about how they looked in public, unlike the slop asses we see today. People dress so slovenly today, it really is a shame. Why can’t you look nice when you go out?

“I’ve worked and suffered for this so long”, “yes, well we all have”. That’s classic!
“What would you say?”
“Kerosene?”
“Precisely!”
😂😂😂😂
A true pleasure to watch everyday!!!! Love this show, so wholesome and cute, what we don't see today!!!!...🥀🥀🥀🥀...2022...
This is one of the best episodes!
This was Don Knots favorite episode. He said it in a interview. 🤣
I wish they would show the whole episode.

This episode always makes laugh out loud.
I love all Andy Griffith show, but I believe this one is funny!
This is the funniest one! What would you say? Kerosene? Precisely!
If I was Opie, I'd be so disappointed if I was taken the the carnival, only to have to go to the pickle contest.
Wish I was back in that Era 😂 Aunt Bee and her kerosene pickles 😂 Of course Clara won the blue ribbon again 😀 Aunt Bee was a gracious loser 🙂

It was quite loud and I don't recall that nor the critters at all. Having been watching Mayberry my entire life,...

Animal! I definitely want to party with YOU
Well Andy and Barney got themselves into a real pickle this time
Kerosene cucumbers!

I loved this episode. What one does for loved ones! Kerosene Pickles!
Aunt Bee knows how to cook, but she doesn't know how to can. Her pickles smell like kerosene and her preserves smell like ammonia.
GOATest sitcom
If you visit Aunt Bee's grave in Siler City NC you will see jars of pickles at her tombstone. Fans leave them there all the time.
I wonder if aunt bee has ever tested her pickles
tasted Fix it! GN
Learn to love 'em.
Good old pickle contest. I need to see this Thursday.
It would be awesome if you would upload full episodes, but thank's for this..
Kerosene Cucumbers... LOL
kerosene cucumbers at the fair and some to spare

One of the judges is the banker at the Mayberry Bank.
ILoveStorms I can’t find the full episode. Did she actually make the pickles with kerosene or is it just a joke because they taste so bad?
Mr Meldrin..other guy is the jeweler..
@@Chasecka no, no kerosene, they were just awful
@@Chasecka If I recall correctly at the end Barney was giving them away as a prize to passing motorists for safe driving.

My all time favorite!
Two food items Aunt Bee did not do very well on pickles and marmalade!
3:30 If I were Barney, I'd say, no way, she's your Aunt.
What is the name of the band piece that starts playing around 15 seconds in? :)
