yep, as expected. I wouldn't leave any of the old caps behind if you have a desoldering pump to hand. if some of the caps used were leaking and failing, safe bet to just replace everything. it's time consuming but worth it, since it'll last longer. unless you have an ESR meter it'll be hard to tell how good or bad the caps are to begin with... again another reason just to replace all of them. There's no available cap kit for the 5140 convertible anywhere so if you do an update video with the replacement of the rest, you should note down the values of everything replaced so to help others save time doing the same thing... it may likely be inevitable that all of the 5140s are going to need cap jobs, and I can almost guarantee the 720k drives inside are going to need them too, if they're anything like their PS/2 brethren. so, you should look into that as well since those are usually early surface-mount and WILL leak and WILL cause damage and other issues.
Yeah. There aren't that many on the power supply board and once I get around to it, I will order enough to replace them all. I do need to take a look at the floppy drives as well as now I cannot remember if I replaced the capacitors on them or if that was on my IBM PS/1. This was just a temporary fix to get it up and running so I can make a more in depth video on it soon. Anyway, as always, Thank you for the advice!
Thanks for showing this. I just got my hands on a 5140 and am eager to start fixing it up.
How did you open up the case?
