My great-grandfather, Alva Roberson, was one of the two men in his well-known "Old Timers" series.

Thank you for the you tube clip. I'm just reading The Unknown Rockwell that was release by James Buddy Edgerton & Nan O' Brien, and I just love it. It is a great read
about Rockwell life in Arlington next to the Edgerton's. I recommend it to anyone that loves to read about a place in time that simple ways of life were in fashion and neighbors were like family.

Just saw the NR collection at the Crocker in Sacramento. Absolutely wonderful. And the museum was packed with people!

Seeing and studying his paintings as a child, convinced me that art was what I wanted to do. The best lesson learned, was to tell the whole story in just one picture.
I teach art every now and then and I always relate Norman's work ethic to my students.
I do not think any other artist's work impresses me more than Norman's does.
The art teacher I had in High School, dismissed Rockwell's work as being rated as fine art and exclaimed that Rockwell was merely an illustrator not a true artist as such.
Another art teacher I met recently, stated that Norman Rockwell's artwork was "too corny, too busy and not painterly enough to be taken seriously as great art"..
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, I guess.... that doesn't always make them right, of course.
Norman Rockwell will forever be my art hero.
