Please don‘t let Rory Stewart be the best prime minister we never had!

Reading this 2 years later and it’s never been truer.

I do my best to bring his name to the fore, when I tweet or similar. Usually falls on deaf ears, but you never know, a tiny mustard seed might take root and spread!

I’m fascinated that two people gave this a 👎. I wonder if they are so doctrinal about their thinking on Brexit that they cannot appreciate his knowledge, experience and considered opinion on the two other complex subjects he raises?

It's such a shame that one of Britain's best was betrayed by his party.

It’s highly impressive that someone can speak for 35 minutes and interweave three extremely complex subjects so deftly without any written notes yet alone a written speech. Rory Stewart really knows his stuff and obviously thinks extensively about all of it. It’s a tragedy for Britain, Afghanistan and many other countries he didn’t win the Conservative Party leadership election and was then kicked out of his party forcing him to leave politics. I hope he finds a route back in.

The fact that his party and the public overlooked this man tells much about the state of Great Britain in the 21st Century: Sleepwaking to slogan mediocrity rather than cherishing insight and realpolitik.
