@@Hilz28 I actually think Bale can do understated performances too if he wants to. I think Big Short, Vice and Prestige are good examples of that. Public Enemies, Flowers of War and I'm not there are also movies where he is not playing bombastic roles even if they are not that impressive. I know the batman voice may be a bit silly but when he is just Bruce Wayne he is playng him like a normal guy. Not the biggest Bale fan but I do think he has versatility and can probably be included in the top 10 male actors of his age group (men between the ages 40-60).

NOPE! I don't know if I agree with most of these. In my mind, over-the-top would be excessive, outrageous, or so extreme to the point that it is unwatchable. Over-the-top isn't used to describe something good or excellent. It is something that could have been great but they took it way too far and made it awful. Though that may be subjective to a point; however, I don't think so in this case. Though a few of these selections may apply in that regard, most of them don't. I feel there are some top-notch performances here that should be celebrated and not tarnished by calling them over-the-top. Gary Oldman's performance in The Professional was masterful! Al Pacino as Tony Montana was some of the best acting I have ever seen. Jack Nicholson in The Shining was brilliant! (See what I did there?) Peter Finch was absolutely amazing! Danial Day-Lewis is one of the greatest actors of our time. Mommie Dearest and Vampire's Kiss... YES! DEFINITELY! However, this list is way off base.

    1. DiCaprio in "The Wolf of Wall Street" merely picks up where Michael Douglas left off as Gordon Gekko in "Wall Street" and expands the character to its logical consequence; it wasn't a difficult template to follow...2. Daniel Day-Lewis is a Shakespearean actor on loan from the 16th Century... KDM

If depends on what you think of David Lynch. Like much of Lynch's work it's simultaneously mesmerizing and cringe at the same time. I remember seeing it when it came out and people hotly debating with each other while leaving the movie theatre. The best succinct description I have heard of the movie is "brilliantly disturbing". If you're squeamish you may have problems. If you're a more adventurous film type it takes you on a ride. The one thing almost everyone agrees on is the entire cast is top notch and it's brilliantly acted. Isabella Rosellini is astonishingly good and Dennis Hopper is dangerous and terrifying. Like in any scene you are totally unsure what he will actually do. Another thing that is sure if you see it you will never think of the title song in the same way again. Lynch would explore many of the same motifs from this movie in his Twin Peaks TV series. I personally consider it one of the top 10 films of the 1980s and an American masterpiece. But some noted film critics, such as Gene Siskel, hated it on release and never changed their view of it.
