  • 📍STENNIS: Here at Relativity, we recently completed our first Aeon Vac full duration Mission Duty Cycle, which ran for 310 seconds! This is the longest Aeon Engine testing we have ever completed (previous record was 196.58s), and represents the full time that a second stage engine will burn on its way to space. #RelativitySpace #Milestone #Engine #Hotfire

    How many Aeon 1 Vacs will power the Terran R second stage? And will it propulsively land?

    Ok, you have nailed the throat geometry with a 3d printed short bell. How are you going to nail the full bell cooling channels with 3d printing? It just seems impossible. How?
    Edit: I just watched Tim Dodd's video on nozzle cooling. 3D printing seems to lend itself to ablative cooling - but also implies single use, which in turn implies DoD interest with sustainable distributed small-scale manufacturing?

      It's regenerative cooling. 3d printer permits you to make the recirculation system so compact and precise. This engine is completely reusable. Without 3d printer this engine wouldn't be possible.
      As you can see the outside of the engine is completely frozen.
      This engine is for vacuum and you can't test a vacuum engine in normal conditions at sea level.
      Probably the vacuum nozzle part it will be cooled by thermal radiation to space with a especial material.

    Are these tests done without bells or do the engines just not have them?

      For a vacuum engine, doing it without a bell on the ground is important as with the extended bell, flow seperation would occur at these atmospheric pressure levels.

      @@triton6490 not always. A few vaccum engines have been tested with nozzles. Makes sense tbh as these engines aren't that large and are rather low pressure Compared to a majority of Vaccum engines

      @@Sonderax the few vacuum engines that ate tested at 1 atm usually have very high chamber pressure, and can take it. Like the Raptor vac for example
