    The passing lane switch sounds like a great idea for pushing yourself forward in the mix for a solo, although it means a need to move your hand around, possibly more than usually depending on your right hand technique. The SI-switch would *probably* see very little action from me, but if you can find some cool tones with it, I'm all for it. It's not like tonal options are bad for anyone, except maybe your wallet.

  • @alfother
    @alfother 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Those switching options are actually super awesome -- I really like the bypass option. Could allow you to go from a flexible guitar to a pure "metal machine" setup without changing anything.

    wait what!? a fender review without playing a blues pentatonic over and over and over and over again while some 40 yr old man stares at you and smiles.
    on the other hand, I bet you a ton of metal kids will cry heresy cause of this. when if you let any of those kids listen to a song recorded with this guitar not one of them could tell it was a strat haha.

  • @MilitaryDisiplin

    I have this guitar and it has sooo much 'fret buzz' I have to sell it and get one with a flatter fretboard profile. Most Fender players swear by this 'clinging sound' but for me it just sound like fret buzz. Also, the strings just feel so loose on this guitar and I have tried several gauges. But I have to admit the sound of the pickups is amazing, so much tonal variety!

  • @ArunKamathMusic
    @ArunKamathMusic 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Weirdly, I was expecting the passing lane button to make the tone beefier, but I think I prefer the tone without that button engaged. Just my opinion though.

    The passing Lane button makes it sound a lot more transparent. I guess even with it cranked, you're still going to lose highs in the tone pot. I might consider doing this on one of my guitars.

    Well, if it has a humbucker in the bridge, it doesn't sound like a strat anymore, right? I mean, what gives the strat it's usual tone are the single coil pickups, and that's what makes it hard to play metal on it: the hum and noise produced by them and their thinner tone, compared to humbucker. Would you try the same test using a guitar with a single coil in the bridge? I think it would make more sense.

    • @TheEpicLinkFreeman

    What about a balanced review that covers all of the tonal possibilities rather than just high gain chugging? BTW It’s S1 not SI? I’ve got the SSS model and it’s honestly an amazingly versatile guitar. The S1 switch allows great tonal versatility. The bridge and middle pickups can be combined in series which creates quite a good imitation of a high output humbucker. I’ve compared that setting back to back with the JB humbucker on one of my other S type guitars through a Marshall half stack and it’s really not a million miles away. The single coil pickups sound modern; they handle gain well and are thicker and louder than standard fender single coil pickups but are still glassy and transparent. For clean passages they are amazing. I just couldn’t stop playing clean blues licks; the singing tone on bends is utterly addictive. The bridge pick up can sound a little “ice pick” in the no load position, but with the treble rolled off a much more useable tone is created. If you regularly play hard rock or heavy metal the HSS is probably the better option, but that said, with the S1 switch the SSS model can cover pretty much everything. The tremolo is very stable. I’ve had no issues even dropping it significantly. The built quality is absolutely first class. I own many relatively expensive guitars. They are all very good, great sounding, playable guitars, but none of them apart from my elite Strat and maybe my PRS are close to perfect. Fender have created a guitar that should appeal to a wide range of players playing different genres. The look might not suit thrashers, but hey they can get a Dime Razorback that will soon be worth about $100 when they trade it for the next fad at the Guitar Centre. A Fender Strat is for life; it will remain with you as your taste and needs change and develop. It will cover whatever you need; blues, prog rock, classic rock, heavy metal, fusion even Jazz at a push.
