  • For our 10th Make of Christmas we are starting a series, within a series. Today we will go over how to piece my new FREE pattern, the Star Bright Jelly Roll Christmas Tree Skirt.
Then tomorrow we'll cover how to quilt it and wrap up with how to create and sew on bias binding to cover those curved edges on Saturday.
As the name suggests, one jelly roll will make one 50-inch diameter tree skirt. We are going to strip piece the diamonds and use a 60-degree ruler to offset the start of the strip rows to make the most of the fabric.
While I wouldn't suggest this project for a true beginner, it isn't too hard. So a confident beginner ready for a challenge or intermediate quilter could make it without becoming a sweary sewist. We cover all the steps in the video tutorial and the FREE pattern instructions to help you get this tree skirt under the tree this year.
Here is your full supply list so you can make one order and get going on this project with me:

Did you use the entire jelly roll when you made this?

I was so excited to make this tree skirt. However I didn't realize how labor intensive it was going to be. I intended it for a gift, but after days of cutting, trimming, and piecing, I only have 2 panels completed. Now, I dont think I want to give it away for fear the recipient won't appreciate how much time and energy that went into it. I didn't enjoy matching all those crosswise seams.😥 I think i could of made an entire quilt faster than this is going for me. This is definitely going to be one I keep myself and find something easier and quicker for that gift.
