    As long as you're happy with what you're shooting with that's all that matters. I'm happy for anyone who is happy with their equipment no matter if it's film or digital.

      That's an excellent point, especially in today's marketing environment, which drives everyone to buy the latest and greatest gadgets. Recently purchased a beautiful Nikon FM2n to try shooting film for the first time in almost 50 years. You are so correct, no need to choose one over the other. I can see I'll shoot digital most of the time but for me, there are just subjects that just call out for film, like that pump house you found and the environment around it. Very much looking forward to re-discovering this brand new, old technology. Thanks for the videos!

    100% both are for certain purposes. I like film and just got my pentax k-50. Best part of having a film camera like the k1000 is you dont need batteries to operate. The k-50 i gotta learn its adjustments and properway to use it to get the best images.

    When I was shooting digital I missed the craft of film photography. There is nothing like the alchemical thrill of seeing that picture emerge from the developer. I also got lazy just shooting dozens of picture and knowing that one would be good rather than choose exactly right time. There is also the deferred gratification - the anticipation of finding out whether your have captured the shot.

    • @ScottymanPhoto

      That’s true! I don’t care what anyone says, everyone slows down when shooting film. It’s just natural. subconsciously we’re thinking about the limited capacity on a roll or sheet of film.

    Funny - I was just having a conversation at yesterday's morning around AI and digital cameras and film and how as AI and digital sort itself out, film might lend itself well to genuine authenticity in images. At least one other mentioned dusting off the film camera to at least keep the skills with a film camera semi-intact. I still have a couple of my film cameras in the camera cabinet! Might be time to dust them off and run a roll of film through them every once in awhile!

    I`ve been shooting film for over thirty years and now shoot film with a Nikon F2 ( DP-1) meter. I thought I`d never buy another camera (especially digital) until I was convinced the Leica MD262 was what I needed. The cost of film and development skyrocketed and the MD262 shoots like a film camera. Lucky I love both worlds with theses purchases...!

      I like micro 4/3 lenses and images; however, I have not been able to rely on micro 4/3 camera bodies. They broke too often for me to rely on them.
      I thought full-frame digital would be my favorite but the two Leica M10 bodies I purchased were too defective. The APS-C digital Fuji mirrorless have became my favorite digital cameras.
      I love the image quality of my large format film cameras. However, they are too big and too bulky to be a daily favorite.
      I love the versatility of my 35mm film cameras. However, their image quality does not always meet my needs.
      My 6x6, 6x7, 6x9, and 6x12cm medium format images are not as good as my 4x5 inch and 8x10 inch images.
      My medium format film cameras are not as versatile as my 35mm film cameras.
      However, since my medium format film cameras are a great compromise between my 35mm small format film cameras and my large format film cameras, I would have to say that the medium formats are my favorite film cameras.

    There’s just ‘something’ about a ScottymanPhoto Video…
    Recently pulled out my old FM2n, all black, and took off the motor drive, and discovered to my dismay I had left the alkaline batteries in it. I cleaned out nearly all of the minor battery acid, and I will see if I can get it to work. I have a couple Nikkormats lying about in storage. Love those camera bodies. I had to clean out an old refrigerator in the basement, and move my fil stock to new safe cold storage. I have a bunch of B&W, and EKTAR 25, that might get used one day?!
    I swear though, I think I like the B&W results I get from my Z7, better than the regular color files!? 😯
    Very introspective and well articulated Video, Scotty. Loved the location too. Stay safe! 👍

    I grew up shooting film and was an early adopter of digital back when Kodak brought out the first consumer digital compact cameras in the mid 1990s. Shot on both until the mid 2000s when digital started to get to a decent quality. Got my first DSLR and haven't looked back.
    For me film shooting is expensive and clunky (developing the film, printing, then scaning it to make a digital copy).
    For me the enjoyment is in the capturing of the image... not the process after.

    • @ScottymanPhoto
      @ScottymanPhoto  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Tim, I think enjoying the process is indeed most important! I know some still enjoy working the final image in the darkroom. For me, I most enjoy the outdoors and composing a beautiful landscape image. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

    • @ScottymanPhoto

      If I had the space, I would have a darkroom. That would probably drive me to large format. 😬

      @markkasick 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ScottymanPhoto In High school about 81-83 we about 20 enlargers goof for 35mm and medium format and one capable of doing large format, which we also had. Free black and white film (bulk) and paper. In order to pass photo II you had to shoot a portrait with lights, start to finish with 4X5 sheet film. Load the film , shoot, develop and print start to finish. If you belonged to photo club you could go in there anytime and develop or print. The sinks always had fresh chemicals. What a great teacher and program. We were spoiled. I did not know how much so. When I graduated and lost that access I kind of lost interest in photography. Years later , I may not have a darkroom, but I do have Lightroom!

    As much as I love film cameras and using them, I’m never going back to film. I quite like the digital experience even though the cameras are not quite as nice as the old film cameras. I do understand why people love film but it’s not for me in 2024

    • @ScottymanPhoto
      @ScottymanPhoto  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well, you're not alone, my friend! That's undoubtedly true for most, based on the market. I think one must love and truly appreciate the art of film and, of course, want to push through its challenges, like film development; it's expensive and sometimes difficult to find developers. Also, repairing a camera is no easy task without a reliable shop. That said, it's achievable but at a cost. Great comment! Thanks for sharing your thoughts, and thank you for watching!

      I like both film and digital. However with today’s security I get the feeling alot of photos will be lost when people pass away. Where with film you have a tangible archive that’s not etrash. For instance if Vivian Maier had her photos on a hard drive. They would have never lasted the test of time. Today she would have never been know.
