I absolutely adore my S2! What a wonderful little gem of a camera! I had an original S model and really appreciate the upgrades on the S2. The advance lever, takeup crank and larger, brighter rangefinder really make for a more modern, easy to live with package. The 50mm 1.4 Nikkor lens is a real stunner. So much cheaper than a Leica of the same vintage with stunning results. I can't ever see giving this one up!
@@vivangreco1710 I agree with you 100 percent! Can it get any better with the S3, S4 or SP? I think I might want to get a 1.4 50 at some point but, unlike a camera that views the world through the lens, is a faster lens really that necessary other then in low light situations? It is a beautiful piece of equipment!
A Nikon S2 ... Very nice camera! I had one, briefly, as a loaner about 1970 or so, and made many good photos with it. I hope you enjoy it and it continues to give good service for years to come!
Good choice, though I think the Kiev RF is more useful (more lenses to choose from). Yes, the Nikon is better made . The biggest downside of the Nikon RF are the eye-watering prices on the "collectible" lenses. Nikon collectors are almost as insane as Leica collectors.
That old T-Max held up really nicely. I shoot the FA, FG, F70, and would love to get an F90 one of these days. I rather like AF-D and AI-S glass. Your relationship with the Zorki is a bit like my first 135 camera in the 70's, a used 1950's Exakta Varex VX. I still have it. I never found a way to like that camera. I then bought a Pentax MX, which I instantly adored (and still have it) before discovering Nikon SLR's. Film and Nikon fit together like a hand in a glove for me.
Some really nice former Russian Kiev 4 lenses are out there, Contax bayonet. I have the Kiev 4A, similar to your Nikon, but with a selenium light meter built in. Enjoy.
As much as I love my Soviet cameras, that S2 is a definite step up. I liked the Nikon S that I had but, for me, the wider lens choice I have with an LTM mount camera made the decision to let the Nikon go easy. Well, easy-ish... they really are very nice cameras. :) Currently I own 3 Zorki cameras and the 4 is the one I use least. The lack of strap lugs is a big part of why it sits on the shelf much more than either the Zorki 1 and the Zorki 3m. I am happy to see what you share with us as you travel with Nikon!
@@leomarmason , This year is a good year for a 3m. :) Really though, I find the the specific camera's condition is more important than the production year. Unlike the Zorki 4/4k, the 3m was in production for only a few years--1954 to 1956--so the early vs late production is much less variable.
I just received a Nikon S. Body only. I have a Contax iia red dial with 4 lenses. I put the Contax 35mm lens on and it works fantastic. I can't use the other Contax lenses because of incompatibility between the mounts They don't focus properly.
I’m looking for a 3.5cm wide angle lens for my S2 but am hesitant about which non-Nikon lenses are actually compatible. I have to check out the Contax. Thanks for the suggestion.
@@josephkreissphotography The Contax is a great lens but a bit spendy. The 35mm DOF is large enough to make up for the difference on the Nikon. It's the only of the Contax that will work. Enjoy!
I have a Mint black F2 and my work horse brassed F3hp that I have been shooting the last 10 years. Thinking about the F but with the eye level finder. I just bought a super nice Pentax SP. I have the SMC 55mm F1.8 and the Super Tak 35mm F3.5 for it. Honestly I bought it just because it is such a beautiful silver camera. I shot a roll of TRI-X 400 and made a few prints already. I also have one roll of Portra 160 in the Lab now. I took that roll shooting in Seattle using sunny 16 rule in the dark grey Seattle skies. Love your new Nikon Rangefinder I keep thinking of adding one to my collection.
I prefer your Nikon F camera. It’s a lot more versatile with the lenses available, and easier to focus in difficult situations, and of course there are lighter Nikon camera bodies available.
I pretty much used Nikon cameras my entire professional career only to be priced out of the market for upgrading. The Fujifilm cameras have been great for the type of work I do nowadays. I even have a client who uses my Fujifilm digital files for billboards! Thanks for sharing and watching!
There’s just no way you could buy that Nikon for the price of two Zorkis in Europe. They go for the price of scrap metal here. I had a Zorki and I wish I had not. What a terrible camera.
I managed to buy two Nikon fe slr's for £10 from a charity shop. One bagged with a 50mm f1.8 lens on it and the other body only. Here in the UK charity shops can be a gold mine for camera gear for Pennie's. It's possible to buy quality 35mm films camera's very cheaply. I just made another purchase. I bought a Pen ee3 half frame camera for £4 absolutely mint.. Another charity shop special..
No, I didn’t get enough $ from the sale but it did help, along with selling some other vintage cameras I had… all helped contribute to the “cause!” Thanks for commenting and thanks for watching!!!!!! Much appreciated!
Goood evening, Joseph! I'm the guy that sent you the case for the Zorki! I also have an S2, and it is by far superior to the Zorki - in fact, I find that it compares well with my Leica IIIg and M2. I have the Nikkor 5cm f/1.4 lens on mine, and really enjoy it! I’m looking forward to your adventures with it!!! 🙂
Hi Joseph, a worthy upgrade. The Russians "improved" their cameras over the years. This usually meant a drop in build quality and features, camera lugs being one of them.
With glasses 👓 any viewfinder will be a challenge to use. The Zorki has the diopter adjustment which helped sharpen the focusing blob. As they say there is no “perfect” camera 📸 lol

What’s a good year for the zorki 3m? Been kinda interested in acquiring one. Currently got a 4/4k

WOWWW .... Big upgrade .... 💪🏻
The pics look really good!
This Nikon is really good camera. I sold mine to get Leica m4 but still i have only good memories with it.
Joseph : try out the HYDECO light meter , small and compact , high quality too.

I went with the Zorki-6 for those reasons.
There’s just no way you could buy that Nikon for the price of two Zorkis in Europe. They go for the price of scrap metal here. I had a Zorki and I wish I had not. What a terrible camera.
My Zorki works perfectly and I'd use it more except that I have other cameras to use in turn.

Nice photos. I am not a fan of rangefinders. I like the viewfinder above the lens.
I like Soviet lenses, hate the cameras. LTM lenses go to my Leicas, my Helios 44 goes on Canon SLR.
I'm gonna wish you well but I have the odd feeling you'll end up physically beating the zorki by the end of this change

Canon 7 greatest also
My missing Nikon camera I have all the F series don’t own the range finder
It's difficult to believe you got that camera for the 2 zorkies...
Well I did have to put in “some” of my own money to purchase!!😅
I had my eye on the same camera as of late. How does the viewfinder compare? I too also have a zorki 4/4k

поздравляю, это земля и небо
В Zorki-4 главное научиться видеть границы кадра. И жизнь покажется прекрасной.
You spent good money on the Nikon when you couldda had a Kiev?!
😂
