    My first painting in high school was very large and the teacher had us use a projector and everyone helped with drawing the image. The objective was to concentrate on the values of the painting. I've never worked with color and didn't know anything about it so I chose gray value painting turn out quiet nice. As of today almost 50 years later I haven't use a projector for another painting. I think I am interested in trying this method again for a large scale sure did bring a lot of Memories Back. Thank you for this video

    thanks for your info re the Tracer. My son used one for school projects, he is now retired (62 now) and my brother had one for Christmas once when in grade ten ,( now 75). the Tracer has been Been around many years and a word of caution re the bulbs. I got one a few years ago, it did not produce a good image. Also I was not able to use a full image. I don't know how you sat the projector over your image which looks bigger than 4x4

    • @christinemorgano
      @christinemorgano  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would try a brighter bulb maybe? The image I used was printed on an A4 size so the projector cropped a lot of it as it only projected 4x4 that’s correct.

  • @davidbooher5559
    @davidbooher5559 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’m confused. At first you were saying it wasn’t worth $50. Then later you said it was a pretty good piece of equipment. And the projected image looked fine. I had 2 of these in the past and they worked fine, but the area for the image ( photo, in my case) is kind of small and I don’t like moving it around because it’s difficult to line the image up on the paper I’m using. Bought a more expensive type ( $210 on Amazon ) awhile back and it didn’t work at all. Would not focus whatsoever. So should I buy another one of the type you reviewed in this video?

    • @christinemorgano
      @christinemorgano  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes that’s right because when I was unboxing it, it doesn’t seem like anyone should be paying over $50 for it, but I was happy with it, and at the end of the video I say that I still wouldn’t pay more than $50… because they are cheap on eBay but art suppliers are trying to sell them double the price, so I’m just saying in the video that my advice is not to spend that much because they are cheaper else where… :)
      You will probably have the same problem with this projector in regards to the image being small and having to move it around, the size of the image to fit is 4x4 “

    Do not use a different wattage bulb! Putting a HOTTER bulb doesn't make it noticably brighter but it does MELT THE INTERIOR and ruin the projector. If it is not bright enough then MAKE THE ROOM DARKer.

    • @parfumextraitfan7453
      @parfumextraitfan7453 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      LED bulbs use far less wattage.
      If you can use a 40 watt incandescent bulb, then you can use whatever LED uses 40 watts or less. The LED bulbs I have that use 40 watts of power put off the same heat as a 40 watt incandescent bulb, but it puts off the equivalent of 500 watts of brightness.
      Heat depends on the actual wattage used not the brightness of an LED bulb

I have a flat screen TV set up on an easel, then plug my tablet into the TV with a HDMI cord. I tape tracing paper to the TV, then zoom the photo to the size I want, then lightly trace with a pencil. @@RuralSpanishRetirement it can be hard to focus if the printed image isn’t a high res one either.. the light in the mezzanine will make it hard and the further away the projectors sits😢 definitely have a play, I find that there is a nice notch on the focus and it sort of clicks and it’s the perfect spot

  • @1977ajax

    Take care with higher wattage bulbs - epidiascopes are notoriously problematic from the heat the light source creates. I had a very large such machine from the 1950s, and most of it was cooling fan! Using these is all about careful set-up of distance and perpendicularity to the screen or canvas etc. Suggest that you draw an accurate square border around the image which you can use to check that the projection is square.
    Re tedious drawing of lines in squaring up; take a stout but bendy stick longer than your canvas and tie a strong string to either end to turn it into what looks like an archer's bow. Rub white chalk the string, set the ends on your edge marks and press down, lift the string and let it snap back - this draws an accurate line for you. Much better and quicker than t-squares etc.
    I find this sort of machine useful once in a while when a quick drawing is required, but not much use once you have started painting - too confusing with the overlapping images for me.
    I too grabbed one of these cheap when I saw it in Aldi years ago - but have still never even taken it out of the box - I find grids easy, when required.

    • @christinemorgano
      @christinemorgano  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Totally agree with the heat from the bulb! I like to use the grid method with the tracer sometimes for more accuracy, still a good little unit to use but definitely would use other techniques as well:) great tips! Thanks!!

    Artograph tracers are great if you are on a budget but really do lack quality, brightness and flexibility.
    The Pico Genie Impact projector models are far better for art purposes in my opinion as they have 4 corner correction and good brightness and quality. They are also used by many artists that I know including a popular UK artist Bonny Snowdon.
