The Terrifying Demonic Possession of 16 Year Old Elizabeth Knapp

  • Elizabeth Knapp's case was both unique and strange. Rather than her being condemned as a witch and executed as many others were in colonial America, her condition was assessed and meticulously documented by a wealthy puritan preacher named Samuel Willard from Monday October 30, 1671 until January 12, 1672. Willard assessed Elizabeth’s so-called possession from a thoughtful, and scientific viewpoint, which was practically unheard of in 17th century. Willard is the reason we know so much about Elizabeth’s strange behaviour even though it occurred nearly 400 years ago...

Cases like these, during 17th and 18th centuries, are difficult to say the least. What is reported is subjective to the times where there was such strong belief in witchcraft and demonic possession, also that women were the root of evil and any show of hormonal distress or outburst would be considered hysterics and lunacy, it's hard to tell if it was a genuine possession or not. Quite fascinating. Excellent video my good Man, as always 👏

@@tremorsfan They are not mutually exclusive. Interestingly even the ancient Romans, if not others before, were well aware of epilepsy ("Falling Disease"). You also have to factor in teenagerhood and of course the fact that she was getting a lot of attention for this, as well as getting "worse' when the observer was there. She apparently outgrew this, which also supports the teenage crazy/drama phase.

Groton?? No way! I grew up in Ayer, MA (right on the border of Groton). My optometrist was in Groton in High School (where I got my contacts for 5 years). My apartment complex in Ayer was built on an old Apple Orchard from the 1600s, and a lot of weird things happened there (footsteps shuffling down the hall, voices/clinking glasses on the coffee table in the living room at night)..and just before my dad passed away from cancer, a friend of mine and I saw a shadow figure fly up across the hanging light, making the room darker for a second. He said it looked like a small person peeking at me from around the corner where I couldn't see it. When he looked at it, it flew across the room and into the wall, and a calendar hanging where it was fell down. This was in 2005.

The story about a neighbor coming down the chimney sounds like an hallucination. I remember being in 6th grade and I was sick, I hallucinated Stitch from Lelo & stich was running around my bedroom ceiling and I remember him talking and laughing in the exact same voice from the movie. This story is sad, but completely plausible medical conditions interpreted through a strict religious and science-less lense.

IF she went on to have a 'normal' life, and lived to an 'expected' age (give or take a little), then it'd be hard to pinpoint a particular medical condition, or even a mental illness, that just suddenly 'went away' or reversed itself. It was probably a combination of mild issues that might have 'grown' as the attention grew.. but who knows. I'm just glad I didn't live back in that time period. The zealots, paranoia and eagerness to torture/kill were ripe.

So sad cause im sure the poor girl had a serious mental illness probably seizures as well..probably 99.9%of "demonic possessions" are a mental and physical condition ..I wish people would stop acting like these were "demonic evil possessions" and that they were evil bad people..Top 5 I understand where ur coming from..but I would respect u guys so much more if u would explain these types of situations as a total lack of education and knowledge because of the time and then tell us what mental and or health conditions the case mimicks..this also would be much more respectful to these poor families

There's no "supposed" about it. Her possesion was very real. People born of the Spirit, like your Rev, are afforded gifts. One such gift is the discerning of spirits. Just by seeing and hearingpeople under evil influence, one can tell with relative ease whether good or eveil abide in the subject. Modern day science will never agree with anything of spirit if it can't be touched, seen, smelled, tasted, or heard, let alone showing up under a microscope. And therefore any medication prescribed to fit a a set of names in a hand book written by scientific men that have no knowledge or experience of spiritual things, are only dimming down symptoms, that the demon will allow to happen. The demon's job is to escort it's victim to hell. And these vile beings have lots of time to wait.
