    While visiting Dudley Castle on a school trip around 1965 I was standing on the battlements of the ruined tower when someone pulled on my left shoulder I turned expecting to see a teacher or another pupil but there was no one behind me, I completed the spiral stairs in very short order

    I live very near to Dudley castle, and have been there many times over the years.The only access to the castle is by paying to visit the zoo.In the castle grounds there is a building, part of the castle, in which nowadays staff give talks about the history and surrounding area. The last time I went there about 5 years ago, my partner and I went to listen to one of these talks. We were all sitting on old, long wooden pews and the lighting was very low. Halfway through, something grabbed my right ankle from behind and squeezed for a second or two. I actually screamed, and ran outside, followed by several other people. Staff reassured me it was not a prank and had happened before. It was truly scarey, and I haven't been back since, it really shook me up!

    The UK always seemed chock full of haunted castles from my perspective, there's so much history on every piece of land there. I hope to visit one day, I can imagine it's overwhelming to be at some of these historic landmarks. Some countries are not old enough to have castles like these, or their structures fell long ago. I can't imagine running my hand along the same walls people did hundreds and hundreds of years ago, looking at the same landscapes, walking the same halls. History feels almost like a fairytale to read about, it's hard to place yourself somewhere and be reminded that it was real, these people were real, and some of the horrors that took place there are more than just ghost stories.

      The people who had these built and inhabited them were absurdly wealthy. They could afford the labour and the materials.

    I feel like, in the first castle, the girl is still protecting her home. One of the only ones on that side of the river to NOT be destroyed?
    As for the knight's ghost, he's probably looking for forgiveness. And she is NOT going to give it.

    • @tommyblackwell3760
      @tommyblackwell3760 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Yes, Burg Eltz is on the left (west) bank of the Rhine, so the side closest to France. The French kings had a habit of sticking their noses into the politics of the German states, and on several occasions made war on them, thus the vast majority of castles west of the river were damaged or destroyed by them at some time or other.

    Love the fact you did Dudley, I saw the grey lady in the ramparts of the castle late one night, we were packing up a large event which took us late into the night and as we were leaving in our cars I glanced up at the castle and low and behold, someone was standing in between the ramparts watching. It was so clear and obvious, 3 of us had to ask the custodian why someone was up there late at night. We were assured that the public were not in the area and we were the only people on sight. Take it from me, no one in the crew was up there, but someone was! It did seem unlikely that someone would have taken a walk up there at 11:30pm.

    Cool video about castles and their back stories! I love castles too! They are amazing pieces of history and architecture ... That was one of the perks of living in Europe, got to visit some castles, listen to some of the history and check out dungeons and creepy stuff like torture devices 😨.. with my husband we would visit some castle ruins very near the house, as well as old churches...
    Anyway, story no. 2 reminds me of a similar story of a powerful woman in my country Chile, called "La Quintrala"... she was also a powerful landowner during colonial times and was said to be a witch. Apparently would do animal and probably human sacrifices and torture people, either her servants/slaves or people that had wronged her somehow, but she also felt guilt so donated a lot of money to different monasteries of the Jesuits and other groups of monks ... it is said she still hunts some parts of the centre of Santiago where some of her property used to be, and there is a legend of an old manor house that she owned or was built in her old property that has burned 4 times over the centuries because she won't let anyone live there... It would be cool if you could do a video of her one day... great video!

    • @MirSan05
      @MirSan05 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I went to Chillingham Castle 18 years ago when I was 8. I both enjoyed it and hated it. I enjoyed it as I love all things creepy! And there is definitely an atmosphere there. I hated it as I got really creeped out in the garden. I had this overwhelfeeling that I was in danger, especially as my mum wanted me and my younger brother to stand under an archway that led out to (if I remembe correctly) wood's. Or if it wasn't wood's an area with lots of trees for a picture. I never read anything there to learn of the history, I wasn't interested in reading back then. And the day we were there there was hardly any staff there to tell us the history like most castles have.
      Since reading about the history of the castle as an adult I'd love to go back. I wonder if the reason that I felt the feeling of being in danger is because I'm Scottish and a lot of Scottish people were tortured and killed at Chillingham. If you live near there you should definitely go!

      I have, south of Dublin. One of the most peaceful nites I had in my many trips to Ireland. My only problem was trying to call out and I kept getting the room of another tired and sleepy traveler, who in a very heavy Irish brogue, told me to mind my manners (although the language was much more colorful)...There were only about 8 people in the castle that nite. My business party of 3, and others who felt more comfortable dozing in chairs sipping Irish whisky thru the nite.

    @6:40 What the video creators left out is that when the prisoners inscribed “You have water , but no soul”, one of the guards famously kept up, decreeing, “Get faster, up faster, people, hit me! Make it funk! Bi got SOOOOULL, and I’m Superbad!”
    He was instantly overrun by an angry mob and thought to be robbed and killed by them, and his wife was taken by the mob’s leader.
    But suddenly, after exactly six months had passed, the guy reappeared at the front door and decreed, “took my money, stole my honey, you sold me out, and that’s a fact, now get ready you mudder, for the big payback!!!???? That’s where I LLLLIIIVE!”

Been to Windsor a couple of times, and two wonderful castles in France- Boise and the Chateau de Chenonceau. Both stunning, especially the latter.
