The popular song was taken directly from the original movie, with adjustments to insert surrounding dialogue in the musical. After taking absinthe and chasing the Green Fairy, Christian goes into a dream-like state and is taught the dance by Zidler. Santiago and Nini are used as “puppets” for Christian and Satine.

I am really really late to this comment (been inactive on here) but yes I did get to see the show on broadway with aaron! it was so much fun.
