  • Turbidimetery and Nephelometery are types of Photometry
    When particles are suspended in a solution in a cuvette, they make the solution unclear (turbid).
    Incident light entering the cuvette will be subjected to three reactions;
    1- some of the light will be absorbed (blocked) by the particles
    2- some will be transmitted through the cuvette
    3- some will be scattered in various directions.
    Turbidimetry deals with measurement of Intensity of transmitted light .
    Turbidimetric measurements are made at 180 dgree from the incident light beam. Equipment used: Spectrophotometer
    Clinical uses :
    Ag-Ab / lmmuno-complex reactions precipitates, Liver diseases,
    protein in urine or CSF are measured by this method
    Nephelometry deals with measurement of Intensity of scattered light.
    Nephelometric measurements are made at 900 from the incident light beam.
    Equipment used : Nephelometer
    Clinical uses :
    Ag-Ab reactions.
    Immuno-complex reactions.
    precipitation of lipoproteins.
